Come, GIR. Let us rain some doom down upon the heads of our doomed enemies.
~ Zim declaring his mission in "The Nightmare Begins"
No one takes Zim's mission. No one!
~ Zim declaring that conquering Earth is his mission and his alone.

Zim is the titular villainous main protagonist of Nickelodeon's Invader Zim franchise, and the main antagonist of the 2019 Netflix film Invader Zim: Enter the Florpus.

He is a power-hungry Irken who seeks to conquer Earth for the Irken leaders, the Almighty Tallest, though he would often fail in this task most of the time due to his own stupidity. Zim is also the arch-nemesis of Dib Membrane, who is trying to expose his alien identity.

He was voiced in the pilot episode by Billy West, and for the rest of the series and movie, by Richard Steven Horvitz, who also voiced Kaos in Skylanders.

His Evil Ranking[]

What Makes Him Heinous?[]

  • He is shown to have ended up destroying part of his own planet during Operation Impending Doom I as shown in a flashback in the first episode.
  • In "Bestest Friends," to get rid of Keef, Zim gives him a present, a machine in disguise that rips out his eyes and replaces them with robot eyes, in one of his most infamous acts.
  • In "Germs," he kills all germs in the entire world. While this appears to be good at first, it's shown that the germs were sapient. When one baby germ begged him for mercy, he killed it without a second thought.
  • In "Dark Harvest,” after he has to go to the nurse's office and realizes that his organs don't look like human ones, and would be exposed as an alien, he goes out and starts stealing the organs of everyone in the school and replacing them with whatever random thing he can find and succeeds at stealing everyone's organs and making himself appear human in. After stealing Dib's heart and replacing it with a cow toy, everyone thinks he’s an alien and interview him a lot.
  • In "The Wettening," he flooded the entire town just because Dib threw a water balloon at him.
  • In "The Rise of Zitboy," he brainwashes his classmates with a pimple named Pustulio and forces them to follow his orders, then uses Pustulio to force Dib to tell him his security system's weakness. He later leaves a huge mess in the school after Pustulio explodes and causes Dib to be blamed for it and clean it up.
  • In "Bad, Bad Rubber Piggy," he sends multiple rubber pigs to different points in time of Dib's past which ends up nearly killing him (which Zim was completely aware of) and he was only able to be brought back to life via professor Membrane making him a cyborg, although Dib was revived by the end of the episode and was brought back to his normal human self.
  • In "A Room with a Moose," he sets up a fake school field trip and tries to send Dib and his classmates into a dimension that has nothing but a room with a moose in it.
  • In "Battle of the Planets," he takes control of the planet Mars and nearly has it crash into Earth.
  • In "Door to Door," after people don't buy the chocolate he's selling, he put's machines on their heads that show them an apocalyptic future if they don't buy his chocolate.
  • In "Hobo 13," he ends up killing other Irkens just to get past the training course.
  • In "Walk For Your Lives," he created a bomb that nearly destroyed the entire town, which could have killed thousands.
  • In "GIR Goes Crazy and Stuff," when a police officer found out he was an alien, Zim had his brain switched to the one of a squid so that no one would find he's an alien.
  • In "Zim Eats Waffles", he kidnaps a child named Nick and implants a device on his head that makes him uncontrollably happy, and then forces him to eat waffles with peanuts and soap in them, most likely giving him food poisoning. Nick is also clearly shown to be in severe pain as well.
  • In "The Most Horrible Xmas Ever," he creates a Santa suit to manipulate people into trusting him, though the suit actually ended up turning into a kaiju monster even if it wasn't his intention.
  • In Invader Zim: Enter The Florpus, he successfully tricks everyone into thinking he's a good person and then creates the titular Florpus and has Earth transported there via Minimoose, causing everything to become distorted and nearly destroying the world, meaning he nearly left the world in a potential fate worse than death if Earth stayed in the Florpus. He is also shown laughing with maniacal glee while this occurs. This is arguably one of the most heinous things that Zim has ever acomplished.
    • Because of teleporting Earth near the Irken Armada, he also indirectly caused the Almighty Tallests to get sucked into the Florpus and burn to death and presumably along with everyone else inside (although the Tallests arguably had it coming for trying to destroy Earth just to kill him).
  • While the Tallests have a higher kill count than he does, Zim still stands out from them due to having less resources than they do and committing unique crimes like organ theft, mutilation and trying to give the Earth a worse fate than death.
  • He is not truly On & Off as while he does occasionally do heroic things like saving the Earth from the Planet Jackers or helping Dib stop Tak from taking over Earth, it is usually out of pragmatism since he wants to take over Earth himself and instantly goes right back to villainy when he is finished.
  • While he suffers a lot throughout the series as a whole, it doesn't really make him a scapegoat seeing how far he goes to achieve his goals.

What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]

  • He is played for laughs too much to be NPE. Part of this is due to his incompetence as he constantly fails at being able to take over Earth and rarely ever succeeds at his plans. And although he has serious moments, like stealing people's organs at Skool and sending Earth to Florpus, most of the time it isn't and these moments are minor.
  • He demonstrated care and/or respect for certain individuals:
    • He has shown that he does indeed care for GIR and Minimoose.
    • He is shown to care for his other robots in the movie as he cries out their names in agony when they were being destroyed by Dib and Professor Membrane.
    • He is shown to have some genuine respect towards the Tallests, as he became really depressed when he found out that they weren't coming to Earth and thought he lost their respect (unaware that he never had it to begin with). That scene was also a sympathetic moment for Zim.
    • In the episode "Parent Teacher Night", it is shown that as a child, Zim hugged a Control Brain and told him that he loved them, and even in the present, he still considered them as a father to him, and even accidentally replicated the hug with Miss Bitters, proving that he still has affection for them.
    • In "Mopiness of Doom", he is shown respecting Dib as he misses him when he decides to focus on "real science" and is happy to see him return to his old self.
  • Though it's a comparatively minor one, he seems to have some standards, as he is confused and flabbergasted why the Martians would work their entire species to extinction building a planet sized ship just because it's "cool".
  • He apologized for causing a cab to crash and explode in "The Frycook What Came from All that Space".

Trivia[]

  • He and Almighty Tallests are so far the only Invader Zim villains to be Inconsistently Heinous.
  • Originally in "Bad, Bad Rubber Piggy", Dib was going to die off permanently. Had this made it into the final version, it would make Zim even worse than he already is.
  • His video game counterparts don’t qualify due to being portrayed in a heroic light.
