Shii-kun, could it be, you don't want to eat Yume's food?
~ Yumemi serving Shitarou his own foot.

Yumemi is the titular main antagonist of Yumemi Melancholy.

She is firstly seen by Shitarou, after waking up from a high fever, where she suddenly barged into his house, claiming that she supposedly knows him despite being a complete stranger. In reality, Yumemi is the long-lost childhood friend of Shitarou, whom they firstly met back in elementary and is a serial killer who preys on boys, with Shitarou being one of her main victims.

Her Evil Ranking[]

What Makes Her Heinous?[]

  • Is a serial killer who is implied to have killed several teenage boys in her twisted pursuit for Shitarou, often by her gruesome methods including forced cannibalism by cooking their body parts for food (in Shitarou's case, it's his foot). Despite the victims she killed being off-screen, there are on-screen patterns to show that this is not the first time she had done it.
    • The main example of this is the Japan Armed Special Forces soldier that appeared in True End where he shot Yumemi, who pointed it out to Shitarou that she is a murderous serial killer and had to be stopped and even had her home barricaded to make sure that she cannot escape, thus preventing this from being a Fridge Horror, which established her past actions, as Shitarou himself was shown to have been relieved of the horrific ordeal he had to be subjected by her.
  • After visiting Shitarou's home, in Bad End 2: Her Handmade Cooking, she subjects him into some of the worst things she has done as a serial killer, namely:
    • She hacked Shitarou's right foot to prevent him from escaping her house and cooked it with spices to mask the odour of it, before presenting it to the sick boy, much to the latter's absolute horror.
    • She also painfully dragged him back to his own chair as he tried to escape, despite being still sickly from his fever. To add to the brutality itself, she restrained his arms with thin wires, enough to cause severe pain from his hands, before sadistically puncturing his gashed arms with acupuncture needles in a rather playful yet very sadistic manner, causing undue pain.
    • Despite Shitarou's reluctance, she forces him to eat his own foot.

What Makes Her Inconsistent?[]

  • Despite being a ruthless serial killer, Yumemi is far too tragic to be NPE as her backstory in True End came to light.
    • She is a victim of parental abandonment from her biological parents, where she even said that despite living to her adopted family, whom were also loveless, she claimed that she didn't belong to anyone, highlighting her insecure personality.
    • She also met Shitarou once and genuinely made a vow that she clearly loved him, before the two drifted apart, which is implied to be the catalyst for her obsession with him. In spite of the fact that this did not excuse her actions as a murderer, her final death scene in True End is played considerably for sympathy as she only remorsefully claimed that she still loved him no matter the monster she turned out to be before dying, where she quietly said "Shii... kun...", thus showing that she still had some humanity within her.
  • She has severe moral agency issues as she only sees her serial killing as something out of twisted love for Shitarou, being too crazy and genuinely insane. Even the Japan Armed Special Forces know for the fact that she is a serial killer, while Yumemi herself doesn't know that her actions herself is wrong.
  • In Bad End 1: Incontinent Shii-kun, she is played too much for laughs, as she playfully teased the nervous wreck Shitarou, who attempted to call the police, before she only smiled at him as he became embarrassed and eventually wetted his pants. To add the comedy itself, Yumemi only looked at him with glee as Shitarou was embarrassed before passing out.

Trivia[]

  • Yumemi is one of the two villains from Charon's work to be inconsistently heinous, the other being Red Riding Hood's Grandmother from The Dark Side of Red Riding Hood.
