Dr. Will Magnus is the main antagonist of the movie Justice League: Gods and Monsters. He's a scientist who was part of Project Fairplay, which was assigned to destroy the Justice League if necessary. He's also the former best friend of Kirk Langstrom (a.k.a. Batman) and the husband of Tina.
He was voiced by C. Thomas Howell.
His Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Him Heinous?[]
- He intentionally sabotages Kirk's cure for his cancer, which transforms Kirk into a vampire. This made Kirk a homeless recluse that fed off of stray animals for months until he was recruited by Superman. Will hoped by turning Kirk into a "monster" that Tina would lose interest in Kirk, and the only reason he didn't kill Kirk was because he didn't want Tina to mourn Kirk's death over loving him.
- He hit his wife Tina in a fit of anger, killing her as her head struck a table. Worse yet, he even tries to put the blame for her death on Kirk during their final battle, stating that she always loved him even though his only love was science.
- He created the Metal Men to brutally slaughter over a dozen fellow scientists all across the world, framing the Justice League for the attacks. Casualties are (in this order):
- Victor Fries (Mr. Freeze), who gets mauled to death by the Batman drone.
- Ray Palmer (Atom), who gets slashed in half by the Wonder Woman drone's sword.
- Silas Stone and his young son Victor (Cyborg), who get cooked to death in each other's arms by the Superman drone's heat vision.
- Thaddeus Sivana, who gets mauled to death by the Batman drone (although he deserved it for creating Brainiac and then almost nuking Metropolis).
- Michael Holt (Mister Terrific) and T.O. Morrow, who get impaled by the Wonder Woman drone's sword.
- Stephen Shin, who gets crushed by debris when the Superman drone comes crashing in through the ceiling.
- Kimiyo Hoshi (Doctor Light) and John Henry Irons (Steel), who get burned alive by the Superman drone's heat vision.
- Emil Hamilton and Karen Beecher (Bumblebee), who get impaled by the Wonder Woman drone's sword.
- Pat Dugan (S.T.R.I.P.E.), who gets ripped in half by the Batman drone.
- He tries to link all of humanity's minds together as one with his technology, essentially turning Earth into a hive mind.
- Overall, Will is by far the most heinous villain in this alternate universe, with no real competition since he's responsible for the movie's entire main conflict. Harlequin is Pure Evil, but she's just a serial killer with hardly any resources. Highfather's actions on Apokolips—apart from killing Orion—can actually be seen as good if Darkseid (who's surprisingly affable here) was still evil as he normally would be, plus he gives Bekka a chance at redemption even after she kills Lightray. And Brainiac was only a child who had zero control over his actions, even asking Superman to kill him in order to save Metropolis.
What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]
- Although he killed Tina, it was an accident and he showed blatant regret while talking about it to Kirk, proving that he genuinely loved her. Plus she clearly only ever married him out of obligation since she always loved Kirk more.
- He genuinely believed his plan would benefit humanity. By linking everyone's minds, he sought to prevent loss and hatred, making him an extremist.
- Although deserved, his death is played for sympathy. He expresses shame for his actions and pleads for Kirk's forgiveness before he commits suicide because of it.
Trivia[]
- He was originally Near Pure Evil, but eventually got removed when it was decided that he had too many tragic qualities and was too remorseful.
