“ | Waluigi time! | „ |
~ One of Waluigi's most famous catchphrases. |
“ | Wahahaha! At last I've found them! The Music Keys, the bearers of the power of music! I shall release the music from the keys and flood the world with chaos! And then... I will hypnotize the rhythmless masses with my moves! And rise to power! Wahahaha! | „ |
~ Waluigi during the opening sequence of Dance Dance Revolution: Mario Mix. |
Waluigi is a major character in the Super Mario franchise.
He is a sneaky scoundrel and the primary companion (and sometimes brother) of Wario. He is also Luigi's arch-rival.
He was voiced by Charles Martinet from 2000 to 2023 and is currently voiced by Kevin Afghani.
His Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Him Heinous?[]
- He hardly has any good chemistry with anybody because most of his team names in the GameCube Mario Parties clearly indicate he doesn't get along with them.
- In Dance Dance Revolution: Mario Mix, he stole the Music Keys from Truffle Tower, keeping one to make himself a good dancer while scattering the rest across the land. He did this with the goal of brainwashing the masses and flooding the world with chaos so he can become all-powerful.
- This plot is explicitly cataclysmic as Toad, a person whose knowledgeable on the Music Keys, says that if the Music Keys are not returned, “chaos and disharmony” will fall upon the Mushroom Kingdom and “destroy” everyone. Considering that Waluigi wanted to flood the world with chaos, this makes him guilty of global endangerment.
- In Mario Tennis, Waluigi's first appearance, he and Wario interrupt the final match between Mario and Luigi and he attempts to start a fight with Luigi, only to be interrupted by Bowser.
- In Mario Power Tennis, he along with Wario, after vandalizing the tournament table to mock Luigi and escaping the guards, work with Bowser to sabotage the tennis tournament to get revenge on the Mario Bros for losing the first match.
- In Mario Tennis Aces, he and Wario stole Lucien from a golden chest, having heard of its magical powers, accidentally setting free the cursed racket, leading to the events of the game.
- While they didn't want this to happen, they are still indirectly responsible for the crimes Lucien has committed during the game. Additionally, Lucien can control them because of their greed.
- Even after Lucien is ultimately defeated, they are disappointed that they couldn't become more skilled tennis players instead of being grateful to Mario for freeing them from Lucien's control.
- In Mario Super Sluggers, he worked with Wario into sabotaging a cannon from Bob-omb Derby by inserting a Bullet Bill into it, which would have got Mario killed or injured badly had Bowser not intervened and saved him.
- In Mario Party 3, he stole the Mischief Star Stamp and challenged the party to fight for the stamp on his own board.
- Although the two are teammates in sports events, he is not actually friends with Wario and just sees him as a partner.
- While the series has a high heinous standard, Waluigi stands out, if barely, for endangering the entire world, a feat few characters have achieved.
What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]
- He is on & off, as he is usually an anti-hero throughout most of the series, such as helping to defeat Bowser in several of the Mario Party games.
- He is too comedic and mischievous for any higher status, with him constantly getting into many goofy slapstick scenarios in games that depict him as a bumbling competitor, such as when he and Wario are chased by Bowser after they accidentally throw a golf ball at him from far away, he and Wario being chased by a bullet bill as a comical defeat in Mario Super Sluggers, and mockingly vandalizing a picture of the Mario Bros. with Wario in Mario Power Tennis.
- Even his worst action of endangering the universe is played for laughs given it involves him wanting to be a great dancer and being defeated by Mario outperforming him in a dance-off.
- He is legitimately insecure because most of the time he just wants recognition and attention and feels jealous of others being better than him at sports which is played for sympathy in his losing animations.
- He is genuinely in love with Princess Daisy and most of his rivalry with Luigi is just to win her heart. Despite not getting along with her in Mario Party 7, there are hints of amicability between them in Mario and Sonic and Super Mario Party due to being paired up with her.
