Hello everyone. I am back with another IH discussion. This was a candidate that honestly surprised me that she wasn’t proposed until now. (I mean… motherblipping Larry the Lobster was even proposed before her which is bizarre to me lol🤣 🤣). Anyway, let the trail commence.
What’s the work? Who’s the candidate?
Spongebob Squarepants is an animated series about the titular sponge (who works at the Krusty Krab as a fray cook) and his friends (such as Patrick or Squidward) taking place in Bikini Bottom, usually having to deal with daily problems such as Plankton trying to steal the Krabby Patty secret formula to make his establishment more popular.
Today, I am taking a look at Karen, Plankton’s robot wife, who helps him with his plots to steal the Krabby Patty secret formula.
Heinous Standards?
Okay, so the franchise has pretty high heinous standards. The Cyclops kidnapped multiple marine animals and tortured them by dehydrating them; Mr. Krabs (amongst other stuff) nearly drove Plankton to suicide, mass tortured Jellyfish, and committed genocide by popping everyone in Bubbletown; and then we have Plankton who (amongst other crimes) enslaved Bikini Bottom to endless labor while it was implied that his victims are aware of the brainwashing he inflicted on them (as one of them bursts out “I’m freed!” while Spongebob destroys the helmets).
We also have a few omnicidal maniacs such as Man Ray or Patrick’s grandpa with the latter who apparently took over the world and starved people and the former wanting to activate a bomb to destroy the universe. So you are probably wondering how she stands out.
For starters, in the recent Plankton movie, she causes havoc all across Bikini Bottom, explicitly mentioning in her song that she will “fill the world with hurt and pain” and goes on saying to “watch Bikini Bottom blow”. She also expresses her intent to expand her conquests onto the entire universe.
She starts by turning the Chum Bucket into a battlestation using buildings from across Bikini Bottom with civilians being shown to run for their lives as they exit their homes, and Karen herself tells them to abandon their homes if they wished to not be harmed. She was also going to invade the surface (aka the humans) using her battlestation and Plankton comments that he’ll love causing destruction at the beach when he teams up with her in the ending of the film. They were going to attack the beach (with people being shown running from the battlestation in fear of it) before Spongebob and Patrick ended up destroying it.
Also, prior to the events of the film, she used Plankton’s freeze ray to freeze Plankton’s roommate for trying to step on him. This arguably can be considered a fate worse than death as the roommate was still aware of his fate while frozen and was begging for help.
She also has other crimes such as helping Plankton enslave Bikini Bottom as Plankton needed her to brainwash all of its citizens (specifically by activating the helmets he used to brainwash them). She also abuses Plankton in some episodes such as zapping him.
What makes her inconsistent?
While I am not entirely sure about comedy due to the recent silly Near Pure Evil criteria, she still cares for Plankton despite bickering with him in some episodes and for her baby, Chip.
In addition to this, she is shown to have a genuine friendship with Pearl, Sandy, and Ms. Puff.
She is also On & Off helping Plankton and Spongebob save Bikini Bottom in Sponge Out of Water and was the one to defeat Karen 2 as well as taking care of Spongebob’s sea chimps while he was at work.
Finally, she was played with sympathy in the Plankton movie. After Plankton’s mistreatment towards her in the beginning of the film, she removes her empathy chip and starts causing havoc on Bikini Bottom as a result of this.
