Yellow Face's MEH

"He was purple! He did not know anything!" - Basically any time he does a crime related to purple color.

Hello, everyone, and welcome to my twelfth Inconsistently Heinous Proposal. Now, I'm sure that some of you reading this are surprised to see another candidate from the canon BFDI series, especially considering how high the heinous standards of it are. And honestly, I was too, but after some discussion on Discord with other users, it's been agreed that BFDI has at least 5 more potential candidates (a couple of whom were rejected in the past), one of whom is the topic of this proposal and someone who, after re-watching his scenes, believe has a shot at being here and hope to convince you of the same.

Our candidate for today/night is the show's resident racist himself, Yellow Face, from Battle for Dream Island. Without further ado, let's get into it.

What's The Work?[]

Battle for Dream Island (or BFDI for short) is a fairly popular and influential 2010 animated comedy YouTube web series created by the Huang twins, Cary and Michael, on the YouTube channel, jacknjellify, and serves as a sort of continuation to several of the 2006-2009 comics made by the former (most notable being Total Firey Island). It is inspired by popular reality TV series such as Survivor and Total Drama and is responsible for the creation of a genre of YouTube animation known as object shows, with popular ones such as Inanimate Insanity, ONE, Animatic Battle and so on and so fourth being created as a result and many putting their own unique twists on the formula.

The series follows a cast of anthropomorphic objects as they compete in elimination-based challenges where, at the end of almost every episode, the viewers get to decide who gets eliminated next episode by voting, which continues until only one person is left and wins the prize, which varies between the seasons. It currently has five seasons, with two complete, two ongoing (don't ask how.) and one on hiatus.

Who Is He? What Has He Done?[]

Yellow Face is a supporting character in the 2010 YouTube comedy web series Battle for Dream Island.

He is one of the many contestants in the series, competing in every season since the second one, Battle for Dream Island Again, and owns his organization, Yellow Face Inc., which he often advertises products for. He is also the archenemy of Purple Face due to his strong prejudice towards purple color.

Okay, so because Battle for Dream Island is a long series (having close to 100 episodes as of now), it means that Yellow Face has appeared a lot and done quite a bit of stuff that varies on heinousness. So, in order for the proposal to not be overly long, I'll only mention episodes where he is at his worst and leave out any in which he does nothing noteworthy that would let him pass the baseline or anything at all. But before we get to that...

In General[]

...So to start with, one of Yellow Face's major characteristics are his ads that pop up every once in a while, where he tries to convince people to buy his company's products (often for obscene prices). Unfortunately, said products tend to be very deadly and dangerous for anyone willing to buy them. To give a quick rundown of the notable ones:

There's the Bubble Transformer, which turns its user into a bubble, prompting them to die very easily. Yellow Face claims that every person who bought this popped before they could contact them back and presumably died forever due to not having personal Bubble Recovery Centers.

The Revolutionary Headphones, which don't play anything other than Yellow Face's laughter, are super-glued to the head and thus can't be taken off, and only have a volume up button and no volume down button. There's also a 2.0 version, which is basically the same thing, except for the fact they shoot spike balls at random and are the ones Needle put on Gelatin and Ice Cube.

An unnamed weapon that can kill someone right away, which later turns out to just be a squiggle that can be any weapon with the power of imagination and fancy labels.

A flesh-eating bacteria that comes with the Revolutionary Headphones 2.0 if one buys within 20 minutes and has killed an unknown number of people (Shouldn't need to explain how it happened).

A gumball that removes the consumer's limbs and gives them to him. This happened with Ice Cube's legs and Donut's arms.

There are couple of others, but these are the most notable ones. As he would say, "So yeah! Buy now!"

Insectophobe's Nightmare 2[]

One of the worst and most pointless episodes in the entire series (IMO). Anyway, Yellow Face only briefly appears during the add completion used to pad out the episode's runtime, as he tries to advertise the Non-Slip Shoes So Ha (yes, that's actually their name) until Purple Face, same thing as Yellow Face but well... purple, shows up and tells the viewers to not buy the shoes due them being outdated. This agitates Yellow Face, who decides to eat him due to a mix of him messing with his products and blatant prejudice toward purple color.

Intruder Alert[]

Oh, boy... if you weren't convinced that our yellow friend wasn't racist already, then his actions in this episode should convince you otherwise. At the beginning of the episode, TV is asked to make a new Cake at Stake song, but due to his lack of opposable thumbs (and arms in general), ends up fumbling it so hard that Golf Ball and Fries threaten the Firey Speaker Box into sending him into the Locker of Losers. At the elimination, Bomby gets the most likes and wins the prize, which ends up being a color change to purple, much to Yellow Face's disgust. Either way, Rocky ends up being eliminated, but due to TV taking the key of the LOL with him when flung into it, FSB is unable to send him there.

Fortunately, the contest for the episode ends up being to build a new elimination area for the future eliminated contestants. Every team goes on their own to create their elimination area, except Bomby, who ditches his team in favor of bom-billating around happily. His fun is soon interrupted, however, by Yellow Face, who sneaks up on him, stuffs him in a sack and leaves to join the rest of W.O.A.H. Bunch. The team gets an idea to use spaceships from the Aerospace Plant they tried to sleep in in the previous episode, but are unable to get to them due to the place being flooded in rainwater. They begin to drink the water, but Needle is disgusted by its taste and doesn't want to drink it. Yellow Face then decides to advertise his grape-flavored powder packet and attempts to sell it to Needle, who keeps rejecting it, forcing Yellow Face to keep lowering the price so much that he gives it to her for 200% off (he gave her the product and money equal to it's full price lol). Needle uses the pack to turn the rainwater into grape juice and drinks it, alongside Pin, Coiny, Spongy and Nickel. Afterwards, they rip the ships in half to make a base for their elimination area and add tortures additions like crushers, chainsaws and worst of all... pictures of Flower's face, all which ends up winning them the challenge.

At the end of the episode, W.O.A.H. Bunch celebrate their victory by consuming some fiery hot chili peppers, but soon start to feel weird while also wondering where Bomby was the whole time. Coiny then questions Yellow Face if the grape-flavored powder juice he sold was actually Bomby's gunpowder, which he basically confirms by revealing that he did it because Bomby was purple and "didn't know anything". They all end up combusting and destroying their torture device of a loser chamber.

Catch These Hands[]

The episode where he gets eliminated, huh? Either way, W.O.A.H. Bunch is up for elimination due to losing in the last episode and their Cake at Stake is hosted inside the Clubhouse of Awesomeness on the Eiffel Tower, which is in the process of being dissolved by a corrosive form of lead-paint Ruby vomited after mistaking a pink lead-painted Ice Cube for a strawberry milk cube. Needle and Nickel feel anxious about being eliminated while Yellow Face isn't due to his new product, The Win Token Printer, which... prints Win Tokens that can be used to halve ones votes at elimination. Nickel asks if he could give him one, but being the bigot he is, selfishly refuses because he's pink, which is better than purple, but worse than yellow. He and Needle end up being safe anyway and leave using their plane tickets, leaving Yellow Face and Spongy in the bottom two, with Yellow Face having WAY more votes than Spongy. Yellow Face uses one of his Win Tokens and halves his votes, but still ends up with more votes than Spongy.

As he is about to play another one, Purple Face, despite getting eaten and never shown to be recovered, inexplicably appears and snatches all of Yellow Face's tokens, getting him eliminated as a result. PSB decides to let them settle their rivalry and locks them inside the clubhouse, after which the two argue about Purple Face's plan to manufacture thousands of copies of his own product, the Total Slip Shoes So Wah, ending in Yellow Face using his newest product, the Beryllium Fortress, an acid-proof small steel crate that takes 6+ years to get out of, to trap him (he also gave it to him for free, no less.). Fortunately, karma strikes him immediately afterwards, as he suffers a slow and painful death by dissolving in acid.

Whatever the case, Purple Face was moved to Yellow Face's Warehouse off-screen and would remain in the crate for 6 in a half years and wouldn't break out until the BFB episode "Fashion For Your Face".

Fishes and Dishes[]

The only TPOT episode worth talking about and I'll specifically cover what his team, The S!, and Team8s do. At the beginning, Yellow Face and the other contestants try to revive the Funny Plants they negligently destroyed in the last episode through various means, which range from unhelpful to outright harmful to the plants. We move away from that to Cake at Stake, where after Remote and Naily are eliminated, Pillow decides to cut the ramen noodle strings that held Just Not and Death P.A.C.T. Again dangling off the top of hotel, which causes them to fall into Two's pool and the splashing water to send their shiny new plates rolling into the Goiky Canal. Two decides to make the challenge to retrieve the five plates, with the team who fails to retrieve one being put up for elimination.

Starting with Team8s, in order to get a plate, Coiny decides to use the Stuff For Your Self online store to buy the worlds strongest magnet, but due to the rest of Team8s wanting to buy their own stuff, he ends up accidently ordering it to Yellow Face's Warehouse. They arrive there eventually via train and immediately upon arrival, Gaty and Pin find a package addressed to Coiny, which contains a... world-ending bomb, which Coiny tries to hide before finding the magnet. They arrive back just in time to snag the last plate from Eraser and Are You Okay, granting them safety.

As for The S!, they are unsure of how to get the plates until Fries and Puffball, in an attempt to sabotage them, give them a shovel and tell them to dig under the canal, which they end up doing to their surprise, except Yellow Face, who stays behind to recover them in case they die. After repeatedly dying, Winner gets frustrated and accidently knocks Ice Cube into the water with a shovel, causing her to dissolve and the water to get colder. Clock then comes up with the idea to repeatedly kill Ice Cube and freeze the canal in order trap the other contestants underneath the ice and snag a plate for themselves, which he, Winner and Yellow Face end up doing, securing safety to their team.

Mitigating Factors.[]

The only thing worth discussing is his death in "Catch These Hands". While yes, it is brutal, it also happens right after he imprisoned Purple Face, making it well deserved and prevents him from being considered a scapegoat. Oh, and any other moment where he's in pain also too minor to make him count either.

That's about it.

Heinous Standard.[]

As I've alluded to at the beginning, Battle for Dream Island has massive heinous standards in which someone gets killed, mutilated or imprisoned for as long as years practically every episode even by characters who don't count as villains and can easily recover from them. This is pretty much the reason the series currently only has two qualifiers (both of whom were rejected in at first for this reason, no less). To give you a rundown of the most heinous characters in the series:

  • The Announcer is the host of BFDI and the last portion of BFB and the series' overall Big Bad. As the host, he puts the contestants through numerous challenges that get them repeatedly killed and upon his return in BFB, he recklessly spends the show's budget, nearly causing the show to get cancelled and the entire universe to get destroyed. He currently sets the heinous standards.
  • Pencil is one of the many contestant in the series and the leader of her alliance. Throughout the series, she killed a lot of people, most notable of which were 105 recommended characters out of annoyance (which is notable because recommended characters (with some exceptions) generally aren't recovered like the contestants and are merely replaced by other who looks similar, making their deaths in most cases permanent), mistreated her alliance members, used Lightning to torture people she and Match didn't like and recently endangered the entire universe just so she wouldn't have to experience the Four's EXIT again. She is easily the most heinous contestant in the series and is agreed to be a qualifier worth a re-proposal.
  • Flower is another contestant in the series and the winner of BFB. Prior to her character development, she was a massive jerk to all of the other contestants and even tried to permanently kill the contestants in the Season 1 finale by destroying all of the recovery centers out of pure pettiness. Like Pencil, she is also deemed to be worth a re-proposal.
  • Golf Ball is another contestant in the series, a scientific genius and inventor. She murdered a lot of people throughout the series, the most notable of which was in "Insectophobe's Nightmare 4", where she killed a total of 136 recommended characters by poisoning them with bugs while trying to kill Fries. She's also agreed to qualify for here.
  • Spongy (yes, your not reading that wrong) is another contestant in the series and almost everyone's punching bag. Despite not being a villain, Spongy has a pretty awful act in the episode "Don't Dig Straight Down", where he caused the lava flow that burned down the Grasslands and killed not only a good chunk of the contestants but hundreds of recommended characters and also left his team, Team Ice Cube, to die for petty reasons. He didn't show remorse for the former action, being happy and saying that "not everybody died" while being in space. He is also considered a possible qualifier.
  • Blocky is another contestant in the series and its resident prankster. Aside form killing people and in fact having the highest successful body count in the entire series, he is also a sadistic prankster who's pranks mainly involve using the recovery centers to kill people on loop (i.e. put them in Fates Worse Than Death) for his own amusement and presumably profit.
  • Evil Leafy is, as her name implies, Leafy's evil counterpart and the main antagonist of the series second season, Battle for Dream Island Again. She appears periodically throughout the season and tries to posses and kill the contestants on several occasions. She's currently not heinous enough, but this could change as BFDIA is still ongoing and IDFB will probably get a continuation as well.
  • Four is an Algebralien, the host of BFB, it's main antagonist and the series' overall secondary antagonist. He abuses, kills and mutilates the contestants for rather petty reasons, but by far the worst thing he does is locking up the contestants inside the EXIT for years, which traumatized Pencil, thus making him indirectly responsible for her actions in TPOT, and also trapped other contestants in the Big Rotating Building. Despite all that, Four ultimately holds back too much on his resources to stand out (he's powerful enough to possess the sun) and his worst actions suffer from Fridge Horror (locking people in the BRB) or are too indirect (Pencil's trauma) to allow him to pass the heinous standards.
  • One is an enigmatic Algebralien dealmaker and the main antagonist of the series' fifth season, Battle for Dream Island: The Power of Two. She seeks to take Two's power for herself and will resort to any means to achieve this goal, ranging from kidnapping Bell, Bomby, Needle and Barf Bag, creating a storm that hit the hotel and endangered the lives of the contestants to get Basketball to accept her deal, violently ripping Donut's legs off after the latter refused the deal to get his arms back and even endangering the BFDI timeline and the universe itself just to get Gaty to sign her deal. She is currently a "wait and see" villain, but she is on the way to set the standards alongside the Announcer if not outright surpass him.

So with all this in mind, Does Yellow Face do enough to stand out among all of these guys? In my opinion, yes. To start with, Yellow Face owns a company that regularly produces and sells unsafe items that, more often than not, get whoever buys them killed and or seriously injured. While his full body count with these is unknown, considering how many he's made, it can be assumed to be high. But by far the worst one of these has to be the world-ending bomb he sold to Coiny. While it's true that the scene showcasing this is a joke and we don't know the context of how this happened, I don't think we really need to because, well... just the fact he created a device capable of destroying the world (which is immediately recognized by Pin as such upon discovery) and willingly sold it to someone makes it pretty easy to conclude that he wanted the world destroyed at some point.

What further helps him stand out are a few uniquely gruesome crimes, the first of which is him kidnapping and killing Bomby and using his gunpowder to make grape-flavored powder juice and tricking the rest of his team into drinking it. Let me put it like this: he basically killed someone and tricked his friends into drinking what's essentially his innards. Like, say what you will for murder being extremely common and there are instances where characters do eat one another, but the way he goes about this is so uniquely messed up that I can't think of anyone who's done anything similar to it. The other is his relationship with his archenemy, Purple Face, whom in his first appearance he ate (which is cannibalism) simply because he told people to not buy his product and later had him imprisoned within a small box for 6 in a half years (he arguably would have stayed in there even longer, as the only reason he was able to escape was because Flower knocked Leafy, Gelatin, Lollipop and Teardrop into the crate) for wanting to produce his own product and causing him to get eliminated. What makes these three actions even worse is that Yellow Face's motive for doing them (or in the case of the latter two, partially): xenophobia towards purple color; another unique touch to his villainy, alongside being a cannibal.

Now as for resources... Yellow Face does have quite a few in comparison to other contestants in the series, owning a company and his own personal pocket dimension that contains all of his products, but I think that even with this, he still can't properly be compared to the Announcer or One as both of them have resources that allow them to do their crimes on a universal scale (Announcer being able to end it by spending the show's budget and One being able to partially fix it and prevent its destruction). The rest of his actions, particularly the world-ending bomb thing, easily put him above almost every other character mentioned above, with Pencil, the only one comparable who does worse than him, lacking his more unique crimes and motives that are on the same level of pettiness.

So with all that in mind, I believe Yellow Face manages to stand out.

What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]

Given what kind of series this is, this should be obvious:

Like most characters in the series, he is way too comedic to be PE or NPE due to his goofy mannerisms, design and voice, his gimmick being advertising products through annoying and poorly drawn ads and even his worst actions being played for black comedy or quick gags.

He is On & Off, as there are times where he commits heroic actions with no pragmatic reasons, such as often helping his friends win challenges, spending his lifesavings (though reluctantly) to buy off the FreeSmart SuperVan from Lewis and indirectly saving Winner from being torn apart by Planty in the process and even trying to stop Pencil from destroying the universe with the rest of CloudYAY.

He is pretty affable and friendly towards a lot of people and even has some he genuinely cares about and sees as friends: Despite the rocky start, he genuinely cares about Winner as the two regularly hang out and caused mischief together, with Yellow Face even being concerned at Winner potentially being eliminated. He also cares about Price Tag, with the two being able to bond over their love of collecting and even decided to make them his business partner and rename his warehouse to include their name. There's probably some more that I'm forgetting, but these are the most notable ones IMO.

Lastly, he has some standards against destroying the universe, as he and the rest of CloudYAY tried to stop Pencil from destroying the timeline by traveling back to the past and trying to change it.

Final Verdict?[]

I'd give him a YAY!!!, but what do you think?
