~ The Golden Guard's only quote. |
The unnamed previous Golden Guard is a minor antagonist in The Owl House episode "Hollow Mind".
He was one of the many Grimwalkers of Caleb Wittebane created by future emperor Belos. This specific Guard has helped Belos destroy a town before giving the few survivors sigils to help him in preparations for his witch genocide.
He was voiced by Zeno Robinson, who also voiced a young King Andrias in Amphibia.
His Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Him Heinous?[]
- He helped Belos burn and destroy an entire city, making him one of the two Golden Guards seen to commit this deed, and while the other one wasn't confirmed to have claimed any victims and we don't know what his "bigger show" would be, we see only nine survivors in this Guard's flashback, making it clear he claimed hundreds of victims.
- He was important for this to succeed as Belos needs to look like a hero that was wrongfully attacked so he could gain the trust of the witches, and thus couldn't do it himself.
- He put on coven sigils on the hands of the few surviving citizens after Belos ordered him to, causing them to be in great pain and collapse on the floor, before him and Belos left them to die in the freezing snow and took the Palismen of the unconscious witches so Belos could kill them and absorb their energy.
- He heard Belos say "we still have some work to do" after learning the witches are alive, implying he knew that Belos was planning a genocide and still helped him.
- While Belos did kill most of his Golden Guards for turning against him, it's made clear some of them died because he was simply paranoid they would turn against him or because they simply failed him, making it too ambiguous to say he redeemed himself.
- For this same reason, his loyalty to Belos is dubious at best, as it's still possible he turned against him.
- He manages to be one of the show's most heinous villains despite his low resources and screen time.
What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]
- The narrative treats all Golden Guards as tragic victims of Belos who were abused and lied to all their lives before being murdered, replaced and forgotten by him once they stopped being useful. This applies to him too, so while he didn't get any sympathetic scenes, he's still too tragic of a character to be Near Pure Evil.
- He is also a scapegoat for the reasons described above.
- He lacks personality due to only having one line of dialogue which doesn't tell us anything about him.
Trivia[]
- If it was confirmed more than just two Golden Guards assisted Belos in crimes such as destroying cities, then he would no longer be Inconsistently Heinous due to failing the system standard of Golden Guards and being no different from the rest of them.
