The Think-Tanks are the main antagonists of the Old World Blues expansion in Fallout: New Vegas. They are a group of extremists who want to improve the world while not caring how far they have to go. They are responsible for multiple inhuman experiments.
Their Evil Ranking[]
What Make Them Heinous?[]
- Even before the Great War, they committed multiple unethical experiments, showing that they weren't good people even before being brainwashed.
- Sold some of their unfinished or failed experiments to third parties just because they needed money.
- While they were selling their experiments only because they were desperate for money it doesn't justify selling unfinished or failed experiments. It is even worse that with some of them, like for example Beauveria mordicana fungus which killed test subject and to make this experiment even bigger failure the body suddenly disappeared, they ignored their flaws and sold them anyway.
- Selling Beauveria mordicana to Vault-tec, which caused the fungus to infect all inhabitants of Vault 22 what later killed them and turned their bodies into spore carriers.
- Gave Sinclair multiple experimental technologies in exchange for letting Sierra Madre be proving grounds and humans inside it guinea pigs (to make it even worst they tricked him into thinking they were only harmless prototypes), what turned out to be a complete disaster: the faulty holograms attacked the guests of casino and butchered them all, faulty hazmat suits (who were already extremely uncomfortable for workers) thanks to toxic cloud mutated Sierra Madre workers into Ghost people who completely lost their personalities and became extremely dangerous predators, the cloud who was supposed to protect the casino from bomb attack turned out to be deadly toxin which also mutated workers into Ghost people. This action makes them indirectly responsible for causing all events that happened in Blood Money, it is also worth to note they this makes them responsible for Father Elijah becoming Pure Evil.
- Thanks to their disastrous meteorological experiment the town of Hopeville was completely destroyed. Those caught in the sandstorms were flayed and turned into the Marked Men.
- One with doctor Klein's experiments caused the mountain above the center to vaporize.
- Created Trauma suits, which were supposed to save injured soldiers from battles, but thanks to few mistakes the suits never knew when people inside them were alive or dead and never got the destination where they were supposed to bring injured people, what caused the suits to go rogue after people died inside them and attack other people, considering the fact that that multiple Y-17 Trauma override harnesses are running around Big MT with corpses of their wearers they completely ignored that trauma suits were faulty and continued putting people inside them.
- All people who came too close to Big MT were captured by robots and thanks to a problem with the Auto-Doc's programming they had their brains lobotomized or completely destroyed, what caused them to become aggressive shells of their former selves they are now. To make it even worst the only things they do after being lobotomized and while not fighting with other creatures or people are fighting for dominations with each other or inject bodily fluids into each other's orifices. Thanks to that they were much closer to "kill" Courier than any other antagonist and only thing that saved them was brain injury caused by the bullet that Benny left in the Courier's head in the beginning of New Vegas.
- Created dangerous creatures like the Cazadors and Nightstalkers, which not only escaped but also spread throughout the Mojave.
- While accidentally and mostly thanks to Elijah, their robots and Auto-Doc disfigured Christine Royce and damaged her brain what destroyed her ability to read and write fluently.
- They used Chinese American detainees as their test subjects and were holding them in a concentration camp. To prevent them from escaping they also forced them to wear bomb collars. The ones who survived the Great War and Elijah's experiments, turned into ghouls and lost their minds.
- They never cared about human staff and other researchers, what is shown by the fact that they let them die in multiple experiments and by the time of Old-World Blues all of them are either dead or escaped from Big MT.
- After running out of test subjects they wanted to use survivors of Great War as test subjects, what considering cut ending in which Courier became member of Think-Tank and caused destruction of entire Mojave with them in a few sick experiments is really horrible.
- Used Lobotomites as soldiers in their power struggle with Mobius.
- Sent a satellite to Mojave to capture some unfortunate traveler to extract their brains.
- Extracted the Courier's brain just to escape from Big MT. They also extracted their spine and heart.
- Betrayed the Courier and wanted extract their brain (who they barely managed to get back) to escape from Big MT (again).
- While they are rarely seen as serious threat with them being most of the time showed as incompetent scientists and there are other more malicious villains in the series, they still easily stand out with their unethical experiments with countless people suffering fates worse than death and attempting to use people of Mojave as their next test subjects make them easily few with the most destructive and heinous characters in the series.
What Makes Them Inconsistent?[]
- They are comic reliefs, with their first interaction literally being failing to sound competent and thinking the Courier's fingers are penises. The only moment they are taken seriously is during the last confrontation and even then, their incompetence makes them hard to be treated as serious threat.
- They are anti-villains, due the fact that their inventions can truly help people in some endings like for example Cyber Dogs who start protecting villages from raiders.
- They are affably evil (Dala, O and 8 are, only Klein is arguable) they were mostly polite (even while Klein was extremely arrogant and Dala extremely perverted) and betrayed the Courier only because they wanted to leave Big MT.
- They can redeem themselves if the player helps them in their personal quests and convince Klein to let his companion's vote. If Courier helped at least 3 (we also count Borus to this bunch) of them they can decide to stay. In case of Klein, this redemption is arguable.
- They are taken sympathetically in few moments: Dr. 8's inability to talk, Dr. 0's inability to remember that his name being 0 and not O (letter), Dr. 0's insecurities of being mediocre in robotics engineering and Dr. Dala's inability to feel like human.
- Their possible death is also taken sympathetically in the ending when the player decides to kill them.
- They are USA patriots, or at least Klein is.
- They are amoral due to the fact that Mobius damaged their memory and temporarily brainwashed them.
- Dala has some kind of care for Lobotomites.
- They showed some honor and respect:
- They have some honor as when the majority of them decide to stay in Big MT the members that wanted to leave also decide to stay.
- They had some respect to Ulysses and acted friendly towards him.
- They are at times helpful to Courier, even giving him gifts from time to time. These actions make then on & off even in endings when they don't redeem themselves.
