Inconsistently Heinous Wiki

This is who I am now! I want him to see me like this. I want him to know that he was the one who made me this way!
~ Theodora
How sweet. You all believe in him! Well, so did I once.
~ Theodora to the Munchkins.
Oz: Theodora, I know this wickedness is not your doing. So, should you ever find the goodness within you, you are welcome to return.
Theodora: NEVER!!!
~ Oz and Theodora, also her last known line.

Theodora, also known as the Wicked Witch of the West, is the secondary antagonist of the 2013 Disney fantasy adventure film Oz the Great and Powerful.

She is a beautiful yet naive witch who is protected dubiously by her powerful sister Evanora and believes that Oscar Diggs is the wizard that can bring peace to the Land of Oz. Unfortunately, Theodora is tricked by her sister into believing that Oscar is using her, causing her in turn to be transformed into the Wicked Witch of the West, a green monster hellbent on Munchkin genocide, against her will. But her and her sister's plans were thwarted when Oz tricked them with his illusions.

She was portrayed by Mila Kunis.

Her Evil Ranking[]

What Makes Her Heinous?[]

  • Even before turning evil, she had a vicious temper shown when she incinerated a metal rack when Evanora said she was wicked.
  • After taking the poisoned apple and being hideously corrupted by its black magic, she torments Oz by levitating him and tries to incinerate him before Glinda deflects the blast with her wand. She also steals a Munchkin's broom as a reminder to Oscar's earlier comment of how witches use broomsticks.
  • She becomes hellbent on wiping out the Munchkins. Even when Evanora just wants them out of Oz, Theodora interrupts her and loudly declares there will be genocide, hence showing herself as an even more violent person than Evanora.
    • Even if Evanora killed the China Girl's village, there are way more Munchkins than sapient China dolls in Oz, proving Evanora is more competent, not more heinous, than her sister.
  • She and Evanora kidnap Glinda and Theodora enjoys watching Evanora torture Glinda.
  • She shoots a fireball at a hot air balloon and destroys it (she didn't know Oz wasn't in there, but the intention counts).
  • She defies Oz when she thinks he "has assumed his true ethereal form" and only leaves when he shoots sparks faster than she can shoot fireballs.
  • Even when Oz tells her she is welcome to return if she ever comes back in touch with her good side, giving her a chance at redemption, she arrogantly bellows that her good side will be subverted forever before flying off into the night, cackling wildly.
  • While she has a few comedic moments, she is still taken completely seriously in the narrative.

What Makes Her Inconsistent?[]

  • She suffers from severe moral agency issues since she became evil due to to eating a cursed apple that corrupted her due to Evanora's manipulations and made her heart literally shrivel up to become a raving psychopath, something she never asked for at all. Made worse is that after becoming evil, she has little to no chance to become good again.
  • She is too tragic and sympathetic for Near Pure Evil, as she had a crush on Oscar, who is a womanizer and didn't really love her, this fact and her naivety gave Evanora, a textbook sociopath who never reciprocated her affection and sisterly love, a chance to make Theodora evil, dooming her to a life of wickedness until her dying day.
  • She sincerely loves her sister, Evanora. She speaks to her with deep affection, is vulnerable about her feelings for Oz in front of her, and works well with her while they are fighting against the good guys. Even when she's angry with her for being "the wicked one" and calls her a coward for running away from Oz's fireworks, there is no indication that she ever subverts her unreciprocated sisterly love for Evanora.

Trivia[]

  • She is the only version of the Wicked Witch of the West to be Inconsistently Heinous.
  • She is one of the two characters from Land of Oz media to be Inconsistently Heinous, alongside The Wizard of Oz from Wicked.
