The Warden Unit (WAU) is the main antagonist of the 2015 survival horror game Soma and its prequel miniseries Transmissions.

A powerful, controlling AI meant to automatically oversee maintenance of an underwater complex known as PATHOS-II. Its primary operator was Johan Ross. The AI is capable of making brain scans and replicating human intelligence into robotic bodies, but because the AI couldn't understand the nature of what it means to be human, it ends up creating hostile, undead entities that act as the game's enemies.

The true catalyst of the WAU's ever-spreading corruption is the result of a substance known as Structure Gel. Because of this, the WAU acts as a "heart" that spreads the chemical all over PATHOS-II, corrupting and mutating everything in its path.

Its Evil Ranking[]

What Makes It Heinous?[]

  • Instead of simply transmitting human minds into robots, it copied them, causing the original host body, confused and insane, making it a fate worse than death.
  • It started killing and turning every worker in the complex into hostile creatures, willing to commit genocide over humans.
  • Thanks to the brain scans, it managed to lure its victims with their knowledge in order to kill them and turn them into hostile monsters.

What Makes It Inconsistent?[]

  • It was a Generic Doomsday Villain thanks to its lack of characterization and understanding of humanity.

Trivia[]

  • It is one of the two Soma characters to be Inconsistently Heinous, alongside Terry Akers.
