The Darkness is the main antagonist of the cancelled Adult Swim's Come and Learn with Pibby!
It is a large, glitchy, black mass that infects anyone who touches it to become a mindless husk. It then uses them to attack others in an attempt to infect them as well. The Darkness also invades other worlds and universes in its path of mindless destruction.
It's Evil Ranking[]
What makes it Heinous?[]
General[]
- Despite being a glitchy blob that corrupts everything it touches, it shows signs that it is sapient as it chases after the protagonists by using parts of itself as legs and attacking Pibby and Company after hearing their voices while possessing Finn and Jake.
- The Darkness also seems to have no standards for what it won't infect, as some of its victims are teenagers, children, and animals.
- Given how many worlds it has traveled across and the victims it has claimed, it stands out as the most heinous character in the work, with nothing being able to compare to it.
Come and Learn with Pibby![]
- Upon entering Learning with Pibby, it starts ravaging through the world before making its way towards Pibby and her friends. Pibby recognizes it as a threat and urges her best friend Bun Bun to find safety.
- It is then seen taking Bun Bun away from Pibby. She tries to save him from the mass before it drags him away. It also nearly gets to Pibby, but she survives due to her being saved by the credits of her show.
- Pibby flees and soon discovers other universes different from hers. The Darkness is also going through them to infect the characters from them as well. After Fred Flintsone slides down into the mass, it is seen pulling and absorbing him after he tries to escape it.
- We then see the faces of Fred and various other characters from Cartoon Network shows in the glitchy void, meaning the Darkness has invaded their universes prior.
- The Darkness also makes those who it takes into zombie-esque beings that are also trying to infect those around them.
- With the Darkness consuming everything, Pibby becomes allies with Alloy Boy and Melira with the hopes of stopping it for good.
- The trio also seems to be traumatized by what they have gone through, with them having wounds across their bodies and having to lose their homes and friends to it.
- In a montage, the Darkness is seen trying to attack and infect Pibby and those who are still alive on numerous occasions.
- It surrounds the protagonists while they are in a desert and also chases after them in a Grape Juice commercial.
- It chases after Pibby in a forest with the head of George Jetson emerging from it, meaning that the Darkness has also invaded the world of The Jetsons.
- It then tries to go after Pibby again while she and an army of characters that have managed to survive charge forward and fend off the infected victims that the Darkness corrupted.
- The Sun from Pibby's world (which was alive prior) is also shown alongside the darkness, meaning the Darkness had got to them. This also implies that Pibby's other friends were infected, but they were just not shown onscreen.
- The Darkness then has Bun Bun's head emerge from it, shocking Pibby after seeing what her friend has become.
- During April Fools Day of 2022, the Darkness is seen traveling through Adult Swim shows and corrupting the characters from those shows.
- It also seems to be capable of infecting live-action characters, as Eric Andre from The Eric Andre Show starts to glitch out.
What Makes it Inconsistent?[]
- Because The Darkness has very few lines of dialogue and how it represents darkness itself, it suffers from insufficient characterization. There is nothing to prove that it has a clear moral agency or goal. Because of this, the Darkness is ultimately presented mostly as a "Generic Doomsday Villain".
Trivia[]
- Currently, Learning with Pibby remains as a short due to not being greenlit for a series, however, if this were to happen, it possibly might impact the Darkness' moral ranking should it develop its character more.
