~ The Architect presenting himself to Neo. |
The Architect is one of the two overarching antagonists (alongside the Deus Ex Machina) of The Matrix trilogy. He is the creator of The Matrix, arguably giving life to all beings in The Matrix, including the Agents and the Machines.
He was portrayed by Helmut Bakaitis.
His Evil Rankings[]
What Makes Him Heinous?[]
- He is the founder of the Matrix machine, whose function is to imprison humanity in a virtual reality, while they are controlled and provide energy to the machines.
- He established several versions of the same world: in one of them he created a perfect utopia that was completely destroyed, in another he placed humanity in a world full of nightmares and fears with the intention that they would be ruled. However, this version was also destroyed.
- He fully supports the attempt to destroy the city of Zion and while he did not help in the fighting, he tried to prevent Neo and his friends from succeeding in doing so.
- He is a social Darwinist, who admits to Neo that his goal is for the human world to collapse in another "superman" - Neo will be updated to a more upgraded version on the condition that he decides to abandon the rest of the people.
- He mocks Neo for not choosing his version and lets him return to the ship that is about to be destroyed. He is also aware that Neo's lover Trinity will be killed and mocks his attempt to help her.
- Even after the war is caused he shows misanthropy, when he claims that people always lie.
What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]
- He has no real moral authority since he is actually a machine with artificial intelligence.
- He is an extreme anti-villain who tries to create a utopian world of eventual peace.
- He has sympathy for Neo, and while he mocks him for his stupid decision he definitely lets him choose, tries to help him grow into the person he's supposed to be and probably feels sad about his (possible) death.
- He is a lovable villain who shows respect to Oracle and praises her actions.
- He is an on and off villain who at the end of the movie honors Deus Ex Machina's deal with the humans (although he didn't believe it would last forever).
