Starro the Conqueror is one of the two main antagonists (alongside The Thinker) of 2021 film The Suicide Squad. It is an alien starfish who was kidnapped by American astronauts and sent to the Corto Maltesean Nazi-era research facility Jötunheim where it was subjected to horrific torture for thirty years by the Thinker. After accidentally being freed, Starro kills the Thinker and goes on a rampage to try to destroy Corto Maltese.
Its Evil Ranking[]
What Makes It Heinous?[]
- Even though Starro got its revenge on The Thinker, it still went on a rampage to destroy Corto Maltese.
- Killed thousands of civilians during its rampage and used its spawn to brainwash many of them.
- Unlike G-rated forms of brainwashing where the victim is left unharmed, Starro's brainwashing kills the victim, effectively turning its victims into extensions of itself. After Starro's defeat all of its brainwashed victims die too.
- Brutally killed the Polka-Dot Man for attacking it.
- Nearly killed Bloodsport and Ratcatcher 2.
- Although this is only speculation, Starro more than likely would have moved on to try and destroy the entire world out of spite as soon as Corto Maltese fell. Given that Amanda Waller confirmed that Starro is an apocalyptic level threat, this is a fair assumption.
- Although he does have a brief comedic moment where his spores fail to possess King Shark which leads them to comically yet pathetically flop on the ground, this is too brief to detract from his heinousness.
What Makes It Inconsistent?[]
- It's far too tragic to be Near Pure Evil, Starro was just minding its own business before American astronauts abducted it. It then spent the next 30 years being horrifically tortured, mutilated, and even raped by The Thinker. Even Task Force X feels bad for Starro but ultimately decides it is too broken and dangerous to be allowed to live.
- Its death is treated sympathetically, as its last words have it reminisce a happier time when it was floating through space, staring at the stars.
- It has moral agency issues due to the torture by The Thinker driving it insane, giving it a pure negative view on humanity. Starro only attacks the city also because it doesn't understand that they are not like The Thinker.
- It has a pet the dog moment where it leaves Task Force X alone as they were the ones who freed it (albeit by accident), only turning its wrath on them after they attacked it to save the city.
Trivia[]
- The Tortured One from the fan webcomic The Bikini Bottom Horror is similar to this version of Starro.
