I'm a magical princess from another dimension!
~ Star introducing herself to Marco.

Star Butterfly is the titular main protagonist of the Disney XD animated series Star vs. the Forces of Evil.

She is the former princess of Kingdom of Mewni sent to Earth to by her parents to learn how to use her wand. There she meets Marco Diaz, a normal boy who not only becomes one of her closest friends, but eventual boyfriend as he helps her navigate the unfamiliar world while fighting off against the forces of evil. While Star is generally a heroic character, she commits an extremely heinous act in the finale.

She was voiced by Eden Sher.

Her Evil Ranking[]

What Makes Her Heinous?[]

  • In the series premiere, she sets all of Mewni on fire with her wand and endangers all of its inhabitants due to her reckless behaviour and, embarrassed, she then even attempts to sheepishly sneak away from the damage instead of helping put out the fires she lit, leading her to be banished from Mewni by her own parents.
  • After undergoing mewberty, she kidnapped several boys, encasing them in purple goo.
  • When Marco tried to help Lobster Claws to become a better person, Star largely rejected his efforts to redeem him and was much more prejudicial (although she would get over her racism against monsters later on in the series).
  • In Just Friends, Star Butterfly uses her dark magic to blow up and destroy a Love Sentence billboard out of jealousy and spite.
  • In the Season 2 finale, she refused to give a chance to a songwriter due to her own preconceptions about princess songs, and treated him rudely.
  • In Sad Teen Hotline, she froze a helicopter purely out of annoyance, and even when she was reminded about it by the police, she refused to unfreeze it and instead left it to thaw out in the sky, causing it to fall and crash down in a fiery destruction at night, inevitably killing the pilot offscreen and destroying property (and this also possibly killed other passengers and/or crushed and burnt people on the ground to death).
  • In Lint Catcher, when Marco returns to Mewni, she acts icy cold towards him; first when her mother asks her to let Marco stay with her until she can find him a knight to squire for, she, not wanting to stay with him, refuses and instead leads Marco downstairs to squire for a knight in the basement where he is as far away from her as possible, and when he points out that they won't be able to see each other, and that he wants to be closer to her in the castle, she very angrily lashes out at him and complains that he's ungrateful to her, despite the fact he is her best friend and had returned to Mewni largely in order to spend time with her, hurting his feelings.
  • In the Season 4 premiere, she turned a guy into a flying squirrel frog out of anger. When Marco told her to reverse her magic spell, an eagle took him away, and Star didn't even try to save him from becoming prey for the bird, expressing no remorse.
  • In Lake House Fever, she got angry at her boyfriend Tom and walked out on him for telling his mother about her kissing Marco, even though as he mentions, Tom should be the one one who's mad about the situation, and he just wanted someone to talk about it with, not knowing how to broach the subject with Star.
  • In Doop Doop, it is revealed she had abandoned her first magic spell, a living broom named Doop Doop, to roast under the sun for multiple years. Despite the fact that he is obviously in a terrible condition and has clearly been suffering for many years on end, and Star even remarking on how hot the sun is in the spot he has been left at, she does not show any remorse and nonchalantly abandons him yet again to continue roasting in the sun, all before killing him off in the finale with her magical genocide.
  • She destroyed all magic in the Multiverse, effectively killing all magic-based lifeforms in all dimensions.
    • As a result of the destruction of magic, all dimensions were merged into one. This had caused mass destruction, as an earthquake sunk Britta's Tacos on Earth and a giant spider is seen causing calamity in a town.
  • While the show has a relatively high heinous standard with the likes of Solaria Butterfly, Mina Loveberry and Meteora Butterfly, she still stands out for not only destroying all of magic, but also killing every magical entity.

What Makes Her Inconsistent?[]

  • She is a non-villain and overall a heroic character, stopping many villains and rarely every behaving maliciously. Even her worst actions were either done out of a compromised moral agency or with good intentions. As a result, she has numerous redeeming qualities, including being affable, well-intentioned, protective of many people, and in love with Marco.
  • She is very comedic, not to mention that even her villainous actions are hardly ever taken seriously.

Trivia[]

  • Star Butterfly is one of the few Inconsistently Heinous that is anti-heroic.
