~ SpongeBob's catchphrase. |
SpongeBob SquarePants is the titular main protagonist of Nickelodeon's franchise of the same name.
An anthropomorphic sea sponge with a knack for being jolly, he is the fry cook at the highly esteemed Krusty Krab. Though usually a force for good, SpongeBob has had some moments of being outwardly malicious and unintentionally cataclysmic towards others.
He is voiced by Tom Kenny who also voiced Dr. Two-Brains in WordGirl and Ice King in the Adventure Time episode "A Glitch is a Glitch".
His Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Him Heinous?[]
In General[]
- In numerous episodes, he causes tons of destruction at places, not even having a modicum of care for the trouble he causes.
- In many episodes featuring Mrs. Puff, he crashes his boat into stuff, sometimes with no regard for anybody, leading to Mrs. Puff getting PTSD and needing regular therapy sessions to stay sane.
- In "Demolition Doofus", he's even gone too far as he crashed 5 times causing Mrs. Puff to inflate so much so she explodes at the fifth time. He even jokes about it with the nickname "Mrs. Pop" when her body can no longer puff again and is now shriveled, which disgusts the doctor who sedated him after doing so with Mrs. Puff when she attempts to throttle him.
The Patrick Star Show[]
- In "Fun & Done", he and Patrick murder several creatures, despite the fact that they did nothing wrong and simply just danced.
SpongeBob SquarePants[]
- In "Help Wanted", he flings numerous flying Krabby Patties at Patrick, not caring that he assaulted his best friend (although this may have not been on purpose).
- In "Reef Blower", he absorbs all of the water in the entire planet with a reef blower, which almost gets Squidward killed, only for the reef blower to blow up and release all the water, causing chaos around Bikini Bottom.
- In "Jellyfishing", despite Squidward's injuries, he and Patrick drag him along on a Jellyfishing expedition.
- In "Hall Monitor", he breaks into a house just because the people that live in it had a window open, causes several car crashes, acts pretty mean to Patrick when he's rightfully scared looking for the Maniac (which turns out to be him), and destroys multiple buildings. To make things even worse, his actions cause Mrs. Puff to get put in jail for six months.
- In “Sandy's Rocket”, he caused a helicopter crash prior to the events of the episode, leading to dozens of deaths as shown by graves.
- Additionally, he and Patrick also end up kidnapping everyone in Bikini Bottom due to mistakenly believing that they were aliens.
- In "Employee of the Month", he breaks into Squidward's house and destroys his alarm clocks to prevent him from waking up for work just because he delusionally believes that Squidward is gonna try to take the Employee of the Month award.
- Additionally, his actions and rudeness towards Squidward cause him to actually start competing for the reward, which eventually results in them destroying the Krusty Krab.
- In "Bubble Buddy", he buries Scooter in the sand at Goo Lagoon, and leaves him to drown in the water.
- In "Survival of The Idiots", he and Patrick break into Sandy's house while she's hibernating and when it gets cold, they shave off her fur to keep themselves warm.
- In "Pressure", he mocks Sandy for being a land creature, and when she starts drowning after she takes off her helmet, SpongeBob doesn't care, laughs at her and mockingly breathes in air to taunt her.
- In "Sandy, SpongeBob and The Worm", he threatens to trip Sandy while they're running from an Alaskan Bull Worm, which would've gotten her eaten, just so he could have the satisfaction of hearing her admit she was wrong about the Worm’s size.
- In "Nasty Patty", due to them believing that the health inspector was a fraud, he and Mr. Krabs try to incapacitate the health inspector by poisoning him with a disgusting patty, while openly admitting it feels good, and laughing at him when they thought they successfully knocked him out.
- Later, when they learn that he was the real inspector, and mistakenly think they killed him, they both attempt to bury the health inspector and lie to the police about where he is to get off scot-free for their actions.
- In "Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy IV", he shrinks everyone in Bikini Bottom out of fear, so that they won't tell Mermaid Man that he stole his utility belt.
- In "Krab Borg", he and Squidward break several of Krabs' possessions because they think he's a robot and that his tools are his robot friends. He would later attempt to break his cash register which drove Krabs to tears due to his personal attachment to it (Though its hard to feel sorry for Krabs given his own crimes) .
- In "The Great Snail Race", he enters Gary in the titular race for a selfish reason, just to beat Squidward and his Snail. With only one day before the race, SpongeBob abusively trains Gary, not even letting him take a break or sleep. SpongeBob also makes a misogynistic comment by calling Gary a lady as a way to demean him as motivation.
- As a result of SpongeBob’s abuse, Gary ends up overworking himself during the race, which culminates in him literally exploding and sustaining grievous injury in an accident.
- In "Chocolate with Nuts", he and Patrick lie to a bunch of people so that they can get them to buy their chocolate.
- In "Boat Smarts", he follows unsafe driver behaviors, getting people in a lot of crashes, and when Squidward and Mrs. Puff get into an accident because of this, SpongeBob callously jokes about it and laughs it off, even hypocritically stating they didn't follow safe driving.
- In "To Love a Patty", he beats down and kills several infant clams just for going near a sandwich he really loved, with some of these clams being ripped in half.
- In "SpongeBob vs. The Patty Gadget", he disrespects the death of the Patty Gadget by dancing on their grave and celebrating (while everyone else feels remorse when the machine explodes).
- In "No Nose Knows", he along with Squidward, Mr. Krabs and Sandy make a plan to kill Patrick's sentient nose by making it smell a giant trash ball, and when the nose dies a horrible and painful death, everyone is smiling.
- In "Plankton's Regular", he helps Mr. Krabs try and take away Plankton's only customer, with them even going as far as to trick the customer into going to the Krusty Krab and keeping him locked in unless he tries their chum, and then breaking into the Chum Bucket to steal Plankton's recipe for chum when that doesn't work.
- In "Shuffleboarding", he and Patrick fill in for Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy and arrest everyone for doing things that aren't even crimes. Eventually, the jail gets so full it explodes, causing all the people to fall from the sky. However, the blame falls on Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy in the end because the townspeople thought SpongeBob and Patrick were Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy since they were wearing their costumes.
- In "Choir Boys", he deliberately goes out of his way to torment Squidward just so he can get him to listen to his song and let him come to the choir audition.
- In "Squid's Visit", when Squidward refuses to visit SpongeBob's house after working a full shift at the Krusty Krab, SpongeBob renovates his house to look exactly like Squidward's down to even the smallest details, implying that SpongeBob has broken into Squidward's house so many times over the years, he knows everything about it. Additionally, in order to get Squidward to visit his house, SpongeBob steals his vacuum.
- In "A Pal For Gary", his most infamous role, he ignores a shopkeeper's warning that nudibranches can't be put around other pets, and heavily neglects Gary after he bought it, not even caring when Puffy Fluffy, in his monstrous form, is about to eat him and scolding Gary for driving him away when the snail actually saved him when the beast turned on him.
- In "Kracked Krabs", he helps Mr. Krabs steal an entire hotel room.
- In "That Sinking Feeling", he and Patrick sink every house in Bikini Bottom, and while this was unintentional, they feel no remorse for it.
- In "Bubbletown", he kills two bubble puppies and proceeds to destroy several buildings and kill several people when slipping on the soap (although, everything was done by accident, and SpongeBob even calls himself a monster when he realized the damage he had done).
- In “The String”, he causes mass destruction while trying to look for the end of the titular string, eventually leading to him literally unravel the entirety of Bikini Bottom and even the fabric of reality itself.
- In "Patrick the Mailman", He and Patrick illegally take over the mailman's job and steal a mail truck.
Other media[]
- In the short "The Endless Summer", after Mr. Krabs tells him that he's using a boat to release carbon dioxide into the air so that he can take advantage of Global Warming to make money, SpongeBob uses more boats to release more carbon dioxide into the air, which causes Bikini Bottom to get so hot that it becomes uninhabitable.
- In the comic “CreamBob ConePants”, he and Patrick devour the residents of Pint Bottom, leaving the town completely deserted.
What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]
- He is On & Off, as he has committed many heroic acts such as stopping Plankton’s mind control, saving Bikini Bottom multiple times, and rescuing Gary from King Poseidon.
- He is genuinely affable and friendly towards other characters, even his enemies.
- Since SpongeBob SquarePants is a comedy work with zero continuity (every destruction he caused is restored to normal in the next episode without explanation), he is not taken seriously at all. All of his crimes, even his most heinous acts (destroying the universe, devouring the residents of Pint Bottom, etc), are played for laughs and motivated by his stupidity. In fact, even his most heinous actions are more out of mischief than anything.
- He cares greatly for a multitude of people, including but not limited to, Patrick Star, Sandy Cheeks, Mr. Krabs, Squidward (albeit to an unhealthy degree), Gary, Plankton (sometimes), Patchy the Pirate, and Mrs. Puff.
- He is a scapegoat and very insecure, due to sometimes getting unwarranted punishment at times, most notably being a victim of Squidward’s cruel prank, and going insane after the whole town abandoned him during No SpongeBob Day.
- He has numerous moments of honor, such as turning himself in when he thought he stole a balloon, and offering to clean up a mess he made in an office while trying to deliver an order.
- He has standards, as he questioned Mr. Krabs for laughing at Plankton attempting suicide.
- He is remorseful for some of his actions such as when he ruined the Goo Lagoon beachgoers' day due to being manipulated by Plankton and when he assisted Mr. Krabs in attempting to poison the health inspector. He even felt remorseful for committing genocide on the Pint Bottom citizens too.
Trivia[]
- If the series ended after the first movie as planned, his flanderization in season 6B to season 7 never happened, or somehow, he was to be heroic to the point of most of his inconsistencies being redeemed in newer seasons or even his upcoming movies, SpongeBob wouldn't be Inconsistently Heinous due to having far fewer corrupting factors, thus making him Near Pure Good.
- SpongeBob was the first approved Inconsistently Admirable character, while Darth Vader was the first approved Inconsistently Heinous character. Coincidentally, both SpongeBob and Vader share the same moral rankings and have been headlined on both wikis.
