Shadow the Hedgehog is a major character in the anime series Sonic X.
He was created by Professor Gerald Robotnik over 50 years prior to the series and is one of the two end results of Project Shadow. However, the project was closed, having been deemed too dangerous and Shadow captured and put into stasis on Prison Island by G.U.N., which also resulted in the killing of his friend Maria Robotnik and the imprisonment of his after-mentioned creator.
He was voiced by Jason Griffith in the English version, and Kōji Yusa in the Japanese version.
His Evil Ranking[]
What Make Him Heinous?[]
- This version of Shadow the Hedgehog is considerably more ruthless than his game version, even after he redeemed himself.
- He tricks Dr. Eggman into helping him find the Chaos Emeralds to activate the ARK which he knows when it has all the Emeralds it will destroy the planet.
- He steals a Chaos Emerald and goes on a rampage in the city which causes Sonic the Hedgehog to be framed for his crimes.
- He helps Eggman and Rouge the Bat steal the Chaos Emeralds on Prison Island and sets explosives to destroy the entire island.
- He tries to kill Sonic when on Prison Island and was willing to leave Christopher Thorndyke to die there.
- He attempted to stop Sonic from destroying the Eclipse cannon.
- He beat up Chris for asking him to stop the ARK from crashing into the planet.
- He attempted to kill Cosmo, a child, due to her being an unwilling spy for Dark Oak and the Metarex, while refusing to give out his reasoning for attempting so.
- Due to the lower Heinous Standards of the anime compared to the games, he passes the standards due to municide not being as common.
What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]
- He is far too tragic as he lost his best friend, Maria, who was shot in front of his eyes and then had his memories of her final wish rewritten, making him believe he needs to destroy the entire planet.
- He has people he cares about:
- His best friend Maria, who was like a sister to him, was the driving force behind all his actions as a bad guy and who he attempts to honor by protecting the world and the people she loved.
- Rouge the Bat, who he saved on Prison Island and formed a partnership with during the Metarex Saga.
- Chris Thorndyke, who he saved on Prison Island due to him reminding him of Maria and who ultimately got him to remember his promise to her. He also saved his life again during the Metarex saga.
- Molly, whom Shadow respected the resolve of and influenced him to abandon Eggman when he joined the Metarex. He was saddened by her death and built a grave for her and even brings a rose to it in the series finale.
- Despite having some tense feelings towards him, he has respect for Sonic as a rival, being impressed with him using Chaos Control to escape the pod Eggman shot him out into space with. He also knocked him out to prevent him from sacrificing his life.
- He ultimately redeems himself by helping Sonic stop the ARK. He also sacrificed himself twice to save both the earth and the galaxy on two different occasions.
- After regaining his memories, he becomes a force for good seeking to stop the Metarex, and helps Sonic during the final battle.
Trivia[]
- He, Professor Gerald Robotnik, and Dark Oak are the only Sonic X characters to be Inconsistently Heinous.
- While this version of Shadow is an Inconsistently Heinous, his game version is a Villainous Benchmark, since villains trying to destroy the world is not rare in the games, so the original Shadow doesn't stand out.
- Fittingly, his rival, Sonic the Hedgehog, is an Inconsistently Admirable hero, Shadow's direct opposite in terms of morality and Shadow's heroic rating in the games..
- This is the first version of Shadow to be Inconsistently Heinous alongside his Sonic Cinematic Universe and Sonic the Comic Online! counterparts.
