Wanda Maximoff is a member of the Avengers, world's mightiest heroes. She controls Chaos Magic, a magic that can manipulate probability and warp reality itself. While most of the time she is a hero, sometimes she becomes a villain either by being possessessed, manipulated, or by her own choice. This page will only include her most henious actions that she commited by her own free will.
When she was married with Vision, she somehow gave birth to twins despite the fact Vision is a robot. Those kids was later revealed to be the soul pieces of Mephisto that shatter after Franklin Ricard used his power to destroy him. The twins eventually reabsorbed by reformed Mephisto.
To relive her of her pain Agatha Harkness use her magic to erase Wanda memory of her sons which causes Mephisto to be destroyed again at least temporary. Agatha and Avengers hidden this fact until one day Janet Van Dyne accidentally reminded her of the existence of her sons. This leds to Wanda depression and eventually Avengers Disassemble and House of M. End in the depowering of 98 percent of mutant populations, death of some Avengers members, and Wanda disappearing.
Unknown to everyone. Her sons still exist and reincarnated in separate families. She would reunite with them, but she would have a long road to redeem herself for what she done to mutantkind.
What have she done?[]
What Makes Her Heinous?[]
- When Janet Van Dyne accidentally talked about her sons, she went to Agatha to ask about what happened to them. When Agatha refused to answer, she murdered her.
- She was behind Avengers Disassemble, leading to the deaths of Scott Lang, Hawkeyes and Vision. Later she was stopped by Dr. Strange and taken away by her father to Genosha so in hopes that Professor X can cure her mental illness.
- When Avengers and X-Men decided to confront Wanda at Genosha, Pietro feared they will kill her. So he asked Wanda to change the reality to make everyone happy. To do this she needed to know what makes everyone happy, so she absorbed Professor X's telepathy power.
- She rewrite reality into House of M. Because Magneto greatest wish is to make Mutants the dominant race, majority of population in this world are mutants which would drive baseline humans to extinction if things did not turn back to normal.
- When Magneto killed Pietro out of anger for manipulated Wanda. She revive him and blaming her father for being abusive, care about mutants race more than his family, calling that she and her family and the rest of the mutants as a freak. To punished her Father, Wanda casted the spell "No More Mutants" return reality back to normal but strip 98 percent of mutants population their power.
- M-day spell indirectly killed hundred to thousand of mutants either by them die during using their powers, can't stay alive without power.
- The rest that survive being hunted down even some depowers, showing that Wanda solution doesn't stop the bigotry toward mutants.
- Those who didn't die experience hardship and emotional trauma. There were millions of mutant even after Cassandra Nova use sentinel to attack Genosha and kill majority of mutant population. Which mean Wanda indirectly cause suffering to millions of people.
- While Dr. Doom is the one that made her get a power boost from life force, he did not predict the damage that she will cause, as he only wanted to use her power to conquer the world and make it a better place.
- In Children Crusade, Dr. Doom claimed that he manipulated all of Wanda's actions, but it is never confirmed to be true. It is also possible that Dr. Doom lied to take all the blame because he loved Wanda.
- In Uncanny Avengers. She was approach by Rogue when she visit Charles Xavier grave. While she claim she accept her responsibility, she say Cyclops should take it too, Which is unfair because Cyclops was possessed by Phoenix Force when he kill Professor X.
- More than that she say it was unnecessary for more Mutants to be born.
- When Rogue say Wanda is mutant whatever she like or not, she say she's bored with X-Men being martyrdom. And claimed that they have forgot what Professor Xavier idea of humans and mutants coexistent.
- In Trial of Magneto, she and her adoptive father Magneto plan for the fake murder. By kill herself in hope that she will be revive by Resurrection Protocols so she can understand it and upgrade it. Which leading to her be revive with incomplete memory while part of her soul spilt between her past self alive and her present self still stuck on astral plane.
- When Jean Grey giving Wanda past self memory from outside perspective which is uncomplete, she subconsciously manifested 3 monsters from her guilts which attacked Krakoa.
- After defeated monsters and regain all memory. She put the blame of her death on Toad, her old teammate. Which lead to him be imprison under Krakoa. Although she say she don't want him to be punished and Toad is willingly accept it for Magneto and Wanda.
- While she is not as heinous as Apocalypse, Mr. Sinister, Cassandra Nova, or Dark Phoenix, she still passes the heinous standard compare to other minor X-Men villains with lower resources and times.
What Makes Her Inconsistent?[]
- She is on-off and for most of the times, she is a hero.
- She is way too tragic for multiple reason.
- Separated from her parents Django and Marya because him and Pietro steal from villagers causing outrage and make them burn down there Wagon. Believing their parents were dead, they run aways.
- Being rescue by Magneto, they joined his Brotherhood of evil mutants to paid the debt.
- Sometime after she and her brother join the Avengers. They reunited with their adoptive father Django, only for him to lose his life by overextending his magic to save Wanda from Chthon possession.
- Having her married life destroy and her kids taken away by the result of Immortus manipulating the even that lead to Vision dismantle and recreated without emotions, which cause their sons to start fading away, make them weak enough to be reclaim by Mephisto.
- Immortus doing this because he and time keepers fear the power of her kids would cause the problem. While their fear is not unreasonable as it will be prove later that one of Wanda son Billy is indeed powerful, this doesn't justify their action at all.
- Her mental breakdown was a result of her regaining memeories of her sons, as she tried to revived them using her power.
- She had no intention to kill any mutants. Just wanted them to be normal humans and get accept by society.
- She had moral agency issue form depression and get power boost by Life-Force when she made a deal with Dr. Doom which make her mental state get worse.
- In Children Crusade. When she finally remember who she was, she filled with so much guilt and sadness. She would had killed herself if she wasn't stop by her reincarnate sons Wiccan and Speed.
- She, Doctor Doom, and Wiccan try to perform ritual to repowered all mutants only for Dr. Doom to steal her Life-Force. She and Wiccan perform another ritual to seal away the Life-Force, stopping Dr. Doom but Cassie Lang was already kill by him.
- She and Hope Summer would combine their power using Phoenix Force and Chaos Magic to increase the mutants population on earth back to normal level at the end of event Avengers vs X-Men.
- While her tragedy of losing her sons is not a justification to put her wrath on Avengers or Mutants race. It still play for sympathy and is never subvert. Some characters in universe feel sad for her especially Avengers even if they are her victim, because they know it's part of their fault that they hide the true of her sons from her.
- She actively avoid being closed to her sons after they reincarnated do to 2 possibility of how they return older than they should be.
- First possibility is her sons souls took over 2 boys bodies. Effectively killing them.
- Second possibility is her sons souls travel back in time and reincarnated, around the time when Wanda herself was still a teenager. She feel that she doesn't deserve to be around them because she didn't raise them.
- She still feel extreme guilt and try to make amend by resurrect Genosha population who was killed by Cassandra Nova, but she failed and only revived them as zombies.
- When she died and her soul was send into astral plane, she was kill again and again by mysterious person in a white hood. Who is reveal to be old Wanda from future. Old lady Wanda say she attack her because that what she want as punishment for her own actions and she will stop only when she forgive herself.
- After defeating monsters and merge back into one person. She finally redeem herself by creating Mutants afterlife which allow mutant souls from entire space and time, both past and present, activate and not activate their powers to be scan by Cerebro to enjoy their afterlife or getting revive by Resurrection Protocols. This upgrade also eliminate the need of Crucible that depowered mutants must fight Apocalypse to their death to be allow to get resurrect with power, finally make up for what she did to her victims.
Trivia[]
- She and her What if? counterpart are only two versions to be Inconsistently Heinous.
- Originally it was stated that M-day spell effect entirely multiverse, which would make her even worse. However this was retconned.
- Vision and The Scarlet Witch, Avengers Disassemble and House of M were inspiration to Wanda actions and motivations in of WandaVision and Multiverse of Madness.
- It can be assume that next appearance of MCU Wanda would be a loose adaption of Children Crusade. Which will be the start of her redemption arc.
