Syakesan/Sal, real name Shiranami, is the main antagonist of the game and manga Wadanohara and the Great Blue Sea by Deep-Sea Prisoner.
He is introduced in the game and the manga as a seemingly friendly and helpful member of Uomihime's court. He is in truth the prophesied Ambassador of the Sea of Death, a hellish realm of jealousy and hatred created and ruled by Mikotsuhime. Supplementary material states that he is the son of Old by Namikaze and the older twin brother of Aonami, better known by the nickname Samekichi.
His Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Him Heinous?[]
- Sal singlehandedly causes all the terrible events of the story since Meikai sealed the Sea of Death in the past: Wadanohara's amnesia, Samekichi being accused of betraying her and the Sea Kingdom, the invasion of the Sea Kingdom by the Totsusa Kingdom, and the unsealing of the Sea of Death.
- Sal states that he threw everything away, including his name, to come to the Sea of Death.
- Sal harbors warped feelings for Wadanohara and jealousy towards Samekichi because she loves him.
- According to the manga, Sal acted as if he had met Samekichi for the first time upon reuniting with his brother after he left the family.
- Sal tricked Wadanohara into going alone to a cave, where he revealed his true nature and tried to force himself on her before Samekichi stopped him. Sal suppressed Wadanohara's memory of the incident through a curse, which is rooted so deep in her mind that Samekichi can't tell her the truth until Sal permanently destroys the barrier that protects the Sea Kingdom.
- Sal terrorized the Totsusa Kingdom by sending an inflammatory letter to Totsusahime and killing Totsusa soldiers. According to the manga, he also attacked Totsusahime.
- Sal framed the Sea Kingdom for his crimes against the Totsusa Kingdom.
- Sal caused the disappearances of dozens of Totsusa soldiers as he sent them to invade the Sea Kingdom, resulting in a war between the two countries. The purpose of the war was to wake up Uomihime from a slumber that kept Mikotsuhime at bay.
- Sal poisoned Tatsumiya to prevent her from getting in his way.
- Sal framed Samekichi for betraying Wadanohara and destroying the barrier. This led to Samekichi being shunned by Wadanohara's friends as the prime suspect for the traitor in the Sea Kingdom.
- After the Totsusa Kingdom reconciles with the Sea Kingdom, Sal reveals himself as the mastermind behind the war and the Ambassador of the Sea of Death.
- Sal permanently destroys the barrier and unleashes the Sea of Death to invade the Sea Kingdom using the stolen Sacred Sword and the ring that he gave to Wadanohara.
- In the manga, Sal tries to sway Fukami to his side by preying on his feelings of jealousy.
- In the Bad End 2 of the game, Sal welcomes Fukami to the Sea of Death after Fukami in his corrupted state murders Memoca, Dolpi, and Wadanohara.
- In the manga, Sal is offended when Samekichi starts trying to reason with him. Samekichi proceeds to offer Sal a chance to go back home together, calling him by his real name. Sal seems genuinely moved by this before he reverts to his evil self and cuts Samekichi in the eye, saying that he hates himself and that it is why he hates his brother too. This scene serves to explain the wound on Samekichi's eye near the end of the game.
- In the Normal End 1 of the game, Sal corrupts Wadanohara into joining the Sea of Death through a torturous process in front of Samekichi.
- In artwork set after the Normal End 1 of the game, Sal says he intended to kill Samekichi before Wadanohara begged him to spare him. Sal also states that it's Samekichi's turn to suffer while he gets to be happy now that he and Wadanohara are lovers and Samekichi is kept prisoner and tortured.
- In the True End of the game as well as the manga, Sal refuses to explain his motive to Wadanohara beyond that there is only room for either of the two princesses in the game and that he just hates the sea in the manga. He tells her that he wishes things had been different, lowering her guard, before he stabs her and leaves her for dead.
What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]
- The manga and the reboot expand on Sal's backstory, portraying him in a more sympathetic light than the original game. Sal was a boy named Shiranami who grew up without a father and with a sickly and depressed mother. One day, Shiranami witnessed his mother committing suicide, leaving the family behind. His brother tried to reach out to him in vain before he left his home, to the grief of his aunt and brother.
- Namikaze's death has affected Sal to the point where it's implied to be the reason Sal joined the Sea of Death.
- In the manga, when Wadanohara asks him the reason for his actions, Sal says there is nothing she can do about it as he recalls the memory of his young self clinging to his mother's dead body on the beach.
- The text detailing Sal's thoughts from the reboot reads: "This is from when I was still a different person. / A beautiful stone I picked up from the beach. / The night I saw the shine of this stone, my mother took her life. / After I saw that moment, I was no longer myself. / So my name and my past…… / I decided to pretend it all didn't happen."
- The bonus video "At the end of the hate" from the reboot and this Skeb commissioned comic set after the Normal End 1 of the game imply that Sal dreams over and over about the night his mother killed herself. Sal asks Samekichi to kill him to make the nightmare stop in the former.
- In the bonus video "At the end of the hate" from the reboot, Sal apologizes to his brother before he kills him at his request.
