SOMEONE HAS STOLEN THREE OF MY TARTS!
~ The Red Queen to her frog servants and her first words.
Off with their heads!
~ The Red Queen's famous quote.

Iracebeth of Crims, also known as the Red Queen, is the main antagonist of Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland duology.

She was portrayed by Helena Bonham Carter, who also played Mrs. Lovett.

Her Evil Ranking[]

What Makes Her Heinous?[]

  • She has the Jabberwocky slaughter many Wonderland residents in order to seize power.
  • She has one of her frog servants executed just for eating her tarts, not caring that he only did it because he was hungry and that he has a family.
  • She has one of her servants go to his house and collect all his tadpoles so that she could eat them on toast, stating that she enjoys tadpoles on toast as much as she enjoys caviar.
  • When Ilosovic Stayne lies to her about Alice Kingsleigh being sexually obsessed with him, she orders her soldiers to try to execute her.
  • She upholds an execution for the Mad Hatter in the morning, only for the Cheshire Cat to free him and trick everyone into believing he was the Mad Hatter himself.
  • When the real Mad Hatter convinces the Wonderland residents to rise against the Red Queen's tyranny, she summons her Jubjub Bird to attack them, endangering their lives as a result.
  • Upon arriving at the battlefield with her army against the White Queen and her army, she summons the Jabberwocky to fight and kill Alice so that she could remain in power.
  • When the Hatter interferes in their fight, she has her army try to kill him, instigating a battle between the White Queen's army and her army in the aftermath.
  • After Alice slays the Jabberwocky, she has her army try to kill her only for them to turn on her since without the Jabberwocky, she has no power over them anymore.
  • Kills Ilosovic Stayne off-screen between the movies (although he deserved it for all of his crimes against not only the Red Queen, but against the White Queen and Wonderland).
  • In the sequel, when she finds out that Alice stole the chronosphere, she has Time go and try to kill her.
  • When a dying Time returns to her to inform her of his failure, she betrays him by having her guards seize him.
  • Upon capturing Alice and her friends, she takes the White Queen with her back in time to the moment where she got in trouble for eating the tarts in an attempt to get her to confess that she was the one who truly did it. When she does not, the Red Queen confronts her past self, causing all of reality to freeze and everyone to turn into statues, which would fortunately be stopped by Alice returning the chronosphere to its place.
  • Despite having several comedic moments, she is still taken seriously as a threat.

What Makes Her Inconsistent?[]

  • She has a tragic past as she was humiliated and made fun of because of how big her forehead was, which would be part of the reason as to why she would come to hate Wonderland. Because of this she has insecurities of being unloved that are played for sympathy which would be preyed upon by Stayne who manipulates her into believing that it is better to be feared than to be loved.
  • She loved Stayne and was shocked when he tried to kill her.
  • She had some honor as she allowed Alice in her court when she tricked her into believing she was Um from Umbridge, telling her that anyone with a head as big as hers is welcome in it and even showed some genuine affability towards her as well.
  • She redeems herself in the sequel as she forgives the White Queen when she finally confesses to having eaten the tarts, embracing her and never trying to antagonize her or Wonderland again afterwards.

Trivia[]

  • She and The Walrus are the only characters from any Alice in Wonderland work to be Inconsistently Heinous so far. On the other hand, her animated counterpart from the 1951 Disney movie can't count as Inconsistently Heinous due to being a bog-standard "kill the hero" villain who fails the baseline with 3 murders and 1 attempted murder while the rest of her crimes are merely generic in nature.
