I save Myself
~ Red to Caesar

Red is the secondary antagonist of the 2017 film War for the Planet of the Apes. He was one of Koba's followers who planned to avenge his death and defeat Ceasar, who later defected to Colonel McCullough and became his right hand.

He was portrayed by Ty Olsson.

His Evil Ranking[]

What Makes Him Heinous?[]

  • Followed Koba's crusade to rebel against Caesar and trigger war with the humans.
  • Created a group of turncoat apes with other followers of Koba with his friend Grey.
  • Wanted war against the humans so very much, that Grey turned on Red.
  • Joined the human's side by helping the rogue Alpha Omega army, becoming Colonel McCullough’s “pet”, personal bodyguard & third in command.
  • Launched an attack on his former ape colony with human soldiers, but is captured.
  • When interrogated by Winter, Red overpowered him demanding the location of the Ape Colony, which Winter gives in order to survive and on a condition to let him work for the Colonel, or Winter himself will be slaughtered by him - this has consequences as later on as well, as The Colonel himself breaks into the colony and kills Caesar’s son & wife.
  • Helped Alpha-Omega capture and kidnap Caesar’s apes then enslave them all to make them build a wall in extremely harsh conditions.
  • When finding Caesar with the Ape X’s, he knocks him out and presents him to the Colonel.
  • When another rogue ape is whipping the apes, he shows sadism.
  • Whips a weakened orangutan until Caesar stops him.
    • He then whips Caesar for telling him to stop.
  • Ties up Caesar to the X on McCullough's orders.
  • Pours water on Caesar instead of feeding it to him.
  • Cuts Caesar down from the X and instead puts him into a cage, leaving him to starve and dehydrate.
  • Brutally beats up Rocket when he “surrenders” himself to the Camp and puts him in with the other apes.
  • Helped the Alpha-Omega fight in the war with the military.

What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]

  • He redeemed himself during his final appearances.
    • In his final moments, he was horrified upon witnessing the human cruelty towards apes when they were shooting them all as they escaped, making him realize the error of his ways.
    • When he sees Caesar attempt to throw grenades towards a gas tank, which could have endangered all of them, and getting shot by Preacher, he saves Caesar by killing Preacher.
