Ransik is the main antagonist of Power Rangers Time Force and a supporting character of Power Rangers Wild Force. He was the leader of the Mutants and the former archenemy of Jen Scotts, the Pink Time Force Ranger.
He was portrayed by Vernon Wells.
His Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Him Heinous?[]
In General[]
- While he had a tragic backstory that he was born as a deformed mutant, and was abandoned by the world and humanity, it's arguable if it's a real justification for his actions. Jen mentioned that people tried to help him, but he rejected their help and turned against them by creating his crime empire and murdering a lot of people in the future, who had nothing to do with that and wanted to conquer the world and wipe out humanity to make the reign of mutants and was motivated more by revenge rather than the well-being of mutantkind, even going so far that he abused, humiliated and treated carelessly even his fellow mutants, making him a hypocritical liar, with his actions against the kind human Dr. Ferricks further bringing his tragedy to doubt.
- While having several comedic moments, most of them are when he interacts with Nadira. Nevertheless, he is mostly taken seriously in-universe.
- While Power Rangers's Heinous Standards is extremely high, his crimes stand out enough due to having fewer resources than other villains limited to Earth since he is a mere criminal with stolen technology and the cryo-prison. He is also an extremely personal villain to Jen, Frax, and to a lesser extent, the Time Force Rangers in general.
Background[]
- When he was roaming in the dark parts of the city, he found three statues which were actually imprisoned Orgs. He made a deal with them, since they had the same goal as him, to destroy humanity and he set them free, in exchange for giving him the new mutant powers of pulling weapons from his body.
- The Orgs copied his mutant DNA, becoming the Mut-Orgs, thus making him partially responsible for their crimes in the future.
- When Dr. Louis Ferricks saved him by healing him from Venomark's poison and giving him the serum to treat the poison from Venomark (one of his kind), instead of showing gratitude for his kindness in saving his life, he repaid Dr. Ferricks with violence and mocked his life's work as foolish and then intended to kill him by blowing up his lab.
- While Ferricks survived, he was heavily injured and rebuilt himself with technology into a robot, becoming the evil, cold and ruthless robot Frax, and promised to get revenge on Ransik for what he did to him, thus making Ransik responsible for his creation and all his crimes and evil deeds as Frax.
- He also stole Ferricks's Cyclobot technology and built an army of robot foot soldiers.
- He created many mutant factions to conquer the world and wipe out humanity to make the domination of mutants in the world.
- While he claimed that he wanted to free mutants from people who hated them, he did it more for the revenge rather that good of his mutant race.
- Murdered a lot of people in the future.
Time Force[]
- When he stole the mutant Cryo-Prison in the Millennium City, he wanted to travel to the past and change history by conquering the world in the past and enforcing the reign of mutants on Earth.
- When Alex Drake, the Red Time Force Ranger and Jen's fiance, followed him and tried to stop him from traveling to the past, he taunted him and heavily injured him, apparently killing him, making Jen and other Rangers believe he perished.
- While it was later revealed that Alex either survived or got revived somehow, it was a great shock for Jen and the Rangers, making it one of Ransik's most horrible and depraved crimes, and making Jen promise to get revenge on him for murdering her fiance.
- Alex has also somehow become more cold and jerkish towards his fellow rangers, which he didn't display before Ransik's murder on him.
- When he arrived in the past, he created a base of his operations and created a plans of conquering the world, destroying the Time Force Rangers and wiping out humanity.
- Attacked and tried to destroy Silver Hills numerous times.
- Fought and tried to destroy the Rangers a lot of times.
- Humiliated and abused his fellow mutants many times.
- Humiliated and abused Frax most of the time, viewing him and the Cyclobots as useless piles of scrap that only exist to be enslaved.
- When the harmless and kind-hearted mutant Notacon refused to serve and fight for him, he wanted to murder him and when he escaped, he ordered Frax to place the mind-control device on Notacon to brainwash him and turn him into a slave.
- This is considered one of Ransik's most horrible deeds, making him a hypocrite who abused and humiliated his own fellow mutants.
- Threatens Cinecon into giving Nadira a part in his movie.
- When Frax betrayed him and destroyed all his serum, he attacked the Bio-Lab of Mr. Collins, and when Wes's father tried to oppose him, he heavily wounded him and put him into a coma, causing him to die in due time (although he was later revived by Alex).
- He captured and reprogrammed Frax, turning him into a mindless slave, and forced him to go inside and pilot his new all-powerful robot Doomtron and attack and destroy the city. In doing so, he removed whatever remained left in his humanity.
- He unleashed his giant robot to begin a mass assault on the city.
- During the assault, he had his Cyclobot army destroy the Rangers' clock tower base.
- When Frax perished in the battle with Rangers, Ransik didn't care about his death, and even went so far to beat and taunt Nadira, saying that Frax was a former human and they wouldn't leave until all of the humans would be destroyed.
- In his final battle with Rangers, when the Rangers tried to arrest him, he brutally beat and wounded them.
- When Jen tried to oppose him, and declared that she would defeat and capture him at all cost, he taunted her.
- He pursued Jen to the warehouse and tried to kill her.
- Eventually, his hatred to humans went so far that he accidentally wounded and nearly killed Nadira, his own daughter.
What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]
- While it's debated if his tragic backstory justifies his crimes, he still can be played for sympathy, because he still was abandoned by humanity and wanted to be accepted in the world.
- He has too many redeeming qualities, such as being tragic, insecure, honorable, a loving father, remorseful and eventually redeemed and so he can't qualify as Near Pure Evil.
- He genuinely loved his daughter Nadira, and cared about her safety.
- He wanted to conquer the world, to ensure the freedom and safety of mutants, claiming that humans hated and feared them, and so wanted to make the world a safer place for the mutantkind. However, while it doesn't excuse his actions, as he murdered a lot of people in the future, but he still had noble goals and wanted to protect the mutant race, making him an anti-villain.
- Despite his cruel and abusive treatment of mutants, he still respected them and sometimes treated them kindly, rewarding them at times.
- When Nadira developed a crush on Lucas, despite being upset at first about the news due to him and Lucas being enemies, since Lucas was the Blue Ranger, he tolerated her decision to date him, even visiting Lucas and giving him dating advice, albeit in a twisted and somewhat violent manner.
- However, he gave Lucas gifts to give to Nadira to help him impress her. In exchange for this, he threatened Lucas saying if he didn't treat Nadira well, he would end him. He also spied on them during the date and reminded Lucas to give her the presents he gave him and later feigned ignorance when Nadira told him about the date so the credit of giving Nadira a wonderful time would go entirely to Lucas. He also even went as far as to forbid his minions from harming Lucas during the brief period they dated. Despite being Ransik's enemy at the time and not fearing Ransik himself, Lucas respected Ransik's instincts as a father and despite wanting to break up with Nadria he was afraid to out of fear of facing Ransik for doing so.
- He has an honorable side, such as fighting fairly with his enemies and never cheat.
- His father instincts eventually served as his first step for redemption after nearly killing Nadira with his own hands, having finally seen the error of his ways, he sought redemption just like his daughter did shortly before him.
- He eventually redeemed himself by helping the Rangers defeat the Mut-Orgs, even nearly sacrificing himself. After this he referred the Rangers as his friends.
- After his redemption he returned to the future and lived happily, making a peace with the Rangers and even creating a mutant rehabilitation program.
Trivia[]
- He is one of two inconsistently Heinous in the original Saban era of Power Rangers alongside Prince Olympius.
- He is the only main villain in Power Rangers history to defeat the Rangers in his final battle. The only reason they won in the end is because Ransik realized how heinous he became and willingly surrendered, realizing that he hurt his own beloved daughter and decided to show remorse for his crimes.
