Randall “Rand” Ridley is the main antagonist of the Netflix adult animated series Inside Job.
He is Reagan Ridley's toxic, dependent, and neglectful father, Tamiko Ridley's ex-husband, and the co-founder of Cognito, Inc., a shadow government company keeping the world conspiracies, most of which are true, out of the public eye. While initially appearing as likely a deeply hurt and broken man, he is later shown to be a manipulative, self-centered, power-hungry, abusive, obnoxious, narcissistic sociopath whose actual love for his wife and daughter pales compared to the lengths of his constant use of them.
He is voiced by Christian Slater.

- Whether he has changed or not is up for debate, since while he feels guilty for his actions and lets himself be imprisoned, he remains an asshole after he was imprisoned, since he is seen arguing with J.R..
What Makes Him Heinous?[]
In General[]
- Believes geniuses like himself have the right to rule the world.
- Has no honor or care for Cognito, Inc., unless he is the one leading it.
- His friendship with J.R. was entirely pragmatic, shown by how he re-hires him as an underpaid intern and argues with him in prison.
- While there's implication he had a bad childhood, due to mentioning his father in negative light, it's never justifies his acts, especially considering that he made Reagan's childhood horrible too.
Past[]
- Created robot cameras to spy on girls in college, justifying it as not creepy for that era.
- Both he and J.R. buried any evidence of their money-making ideas causing death.
- Created Cognito, Inc. alongside J.R, making him indirectly responsible for most of the bad things happening in the series.
- Was often absent in Reagan's life alongside Tamiko. He also relied on a robot doll named Bear-O to give Reagan hugs instead of actually showing her affection, which gave her permanent trauma due to Bear-O's overpowered hugs.
- Psychologically abused his daughter, Reagan, throughout her entire life. Instead of letting her live a happy life with her only friend, he ended up erasing her memories of him and forcing her to become a genius so he could use her as a failsafe in case he lost his job at Cognito, Inc..
- Tried to blow up the sun to cure skin cancer.
Part 1[]
- In the present, he is still a massive detriment to Reagan, relying on her for money and a home to live, still showing her little to no affection.
- He reprogrammed ROBOTUS to rebel If Reagan was fired. This caused ROBOTUS to gain free will and attempts mass genocide on the human race, which Rand shows pride in and later shows no remorse.
- Pretended to be a Flat Earther member for fun, causing them to go on a rampage when he told them he joined for giggles.
- When Brett went into one of Reagan's memories and asked a young Reagan to the dance, young Reagan announced that she was going to the dance with a stranger in his thirties, to which Rand didn't care. While this isn't real, it shows that Rand would think nothing of this strange occurrence to his teenage daughter.
- Takes over Cognito, Inc. again in the Season finale, feeling no remorse for how much he hurt Reagan to do so. When becoming the boss, he is even more tyrannical than J.R.
Part 2[]
- Sent a few people to Shadow Prison X just for talking bad about him.
- Used company funds to due various selfish experiments, such as a holographic date with Tamiko, while also using ROBOTUS as a substitute for him, despite the often dangerous tendencies he poses.
- Used Operation Reboot several times to find a reality where his family loved him, not caring for the inconsistencies in the universe he created, such as the Soviet Union winning the Cold War.
What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]
- Despite the abuse he put them through, he genuinely wants to have a happy life with his family, which is why he used Operation Reboot in the Finale. He voluntarily turns himself in when Reagan catches him while having an episodic depression.
- He gave Reagan enough money to make a halloween party at Cognito Inc. for no pragmatic reason whatsoever, although he didn't seem to care about it.
- He has far too many comedic moments to qualify as Near Pure Evil, even after he is revealed to be evil, with a great example being accidentally turning himself into a baby when trying to look young.
