~ Ra's al Ghul to Bruce Wayne. |
Ra's al Ghul, also known as Henri Ducard, is the main antagonist of Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight trilogy.
He was one of the many leaders of the League of Shadows, the father of Talia al Ghul, the former mentor and friend-turned arch-nemesis of Bruce Wayne, and the reason why he became the masked vigilante known as Batman.
He was portrayed by Liam Neeson.
His Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Him Heinous?[]
- Upon hearing of his wife's horrific death, he massacred the Pit and wiped out most of the prisoners.
- He was responsible for crashing Gotham economically, causing corruption to grow and crime to increase as people suffer from the poverty or take advantage of it.
- This is what caused Joe Chill to shoot Bruce's parents dead, leading him to eventually became Batman, which Ra's outright admits he is responsible for.
- He was behind Scarecrow's use of the fear gas, giving him the materials to develop the hallucinogens that would force people to witness their greatest fears and has him test it on people.
- Using Scarecrow's fear gas, he unleashed it upon the population of Gotham City, intending to drive everyone insane with fear and have them kill each other in the process and utterly destroy it, before moving on to destroy other cities he deems as beyond saving as well.
- His actions were responsible for both NPEs from the trilogy, as Bane and Talia al Ghul try destroying Gotham to fulfill Ra's al Ghul's destiny after indoctrinating them to the League's ideals.
- With his plans to wipe out many cities, he is one of the most heinous villains in the trilogy.
What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]
- He is way too sympathetic to be NPE. He was once a good man serving a warlord who fell in love and secretly married his master's daughter and wanted to have a good life with her. But when the Warlord found out, he threatened to imprison Ra's, but Ra's only walked free as unbeknownst to him, his wife took his place in a prison called the Pit where she gave birth to their child. Ra's only ends up becoming evil when his daughter escapes the Pit and informs him about his wife's horrific death, to which the grieving Ra's deemed compassion as a luxury he couldn't afford and joined the League of Shadows and ends up excommunicating Bane from the League as seeing him reminds him of the prison he left his wife to die in.
- He has a code of honor, following a strict code and always plays fair.
- He is a well-intentioned extremist who genuinely wants to make the world a much safer place, only targeting cities that have massive amounts of corruption in hopes of being reborn into a much safer haven.
- He cares about his wife and his daughter, Talia, in which his wife's death lead to Ra's becoming evil and massacring the Pit out of revenge for the threats posed against her and their daughter.
- He is genuinely affable to his minions and this is never a façade. When training Bruce, he did so as he saw great potential in him after seeing himself in Bruce and genuinely wanted to help him and mold him into what he sees as a hero to save Gotham, only trying to kill him when Bruce turned against the League. When meeting him days later, Ra's tells Bruce in a genuinely sorrowful tone that he wanted Bruce to be on his side saving the world.
