Releasing the Great Devourer is the only way to get back at the people of Ninjago for locking my kind underground for all those years. We should have been the ones ruling the surface, not you!
~ Pythor explaining his motivation to Wu in "The Rise of the Great Devourer"
Oh, what can I say? Everyone can change.
~ Pythor after Arcturus praises him in "The Corridor of Elders"

Pythor P. Chumsworth, more commonly known as Pythor, is one of the two secondary antagonists (alongside Harumi) of the LEGO Ninjago franchise, serving as the main antagonist of Season 1: Rise of the Snakes and the book Pythor's Revenge with both antagonistic and anti-heroic roles in several other seasons.

He is the last surviving member of the Anacondrai clan, who sought to unleash the Great Devourer upon Ninjago to punish humans with the help of his fellow Serpentine tribes. After nearly getting killed by the Great Devourer, Pythor has returned several times afterwards, nearly always coming up with new villainous schemes.

He is voiced by Michael Dobson.

His Evil Ranking[]

What Makes Him Heinous?[]

In General[]

  • While he has a supposedly tragic backstory, having been imprisoned in the middle of a dry desert for decades (with nothing indicating that he was already evil at that point), he subverted it by remaining a villain after learning that Chen tricked both the humans and the Serpentine into believing that the other side was going to betray them.
  • Due to him being responsible for The Great Devourer's rampage, he is among Ninjago villains with the longest-lasting influence due to the Devourer causing many unfortunate events through a domino effect in the series. One of them was the death of Harumi's parents, which also makes Pythor indirectly responsible for Harumi's descent into villainy.

Background[]

  • He participated in the First Serpentine War, likely committing many war crimes in the process.
  • It’s heavily implied that he ate the other Anacondrai in order to survive. Though to be fair, this was out of pragmatism, Pythor didn’t show any remorse over it either.

The Rise of the Snakes[]

  • He pretended to pledge loyalty to Lloyd when he was really just using the boy and abandoned him to the ninja right after getting the Map of Dens.
  • He and Lloyd caused mayhem around the Jamanakai village, by stealing candies and destroying the kids's toy boats.
  • He and Lloyd locked up the Darkley's Boarding School students and teachers.
  • He freed the Constrictai and Venomari tribes and attempted to unite the Serpentine under his leadership.
  • As revenge towards the humans for being imprisoned for 40 years in the tombs, he attempted to free The Great Devourer, who would go to consume all of Ninjago and kill all of the people.
  • He used the Sacred Flute, the kind of which was used to drive him and the other Serpentine underground, to cheat in a battle and cause his fellow generals pain.
  • He attempted to kill The Ninja and Samurai X (Nya in disguise), by tilting the arena.
  • He had Nya tied to a roller-coaster ride set to go through a fire ring as a distraction.
  • He forced Lloyd (who was a child at the time) to walk through a trap-filled pyramid to get the Constrictai Fang Blade.
  • He ate one of the talent show judges to rig the competition in favor of the Serpentine.
  • He had his minions drop the stage lights on Cole and his father.
  • He abandoned Lloyd inside the volcano at his first chance to save his own scales, leaving him to almost burn to death, which was exceptionally cowardly and cruel on his part.
  • Although he allowed the Serpentine to rest and celebrate for a while, he did it rather reluctantly, only because otherwise they could've started disobeying him, and only on Skales's advice.
  • He almost sank the cage with the captured ninja into the acid.
  • He snuck into the Destiny's Bounty and took back the Fangblades in order to free The Great Devourer.
  • He fought Wu and attempted to eat him alive.
  • Although he claimed that he wanted to release the Great Devourer to get back at humans for imprisoning the Serpentine, Pythor often mistreats and abuses his fellow Serpentine while acting as their ruler.

Rebooted[]

  • He stole the hard drive containing the Overlord from the Borg Tower, intending to use him as a tool for his revenge.
  • He abused Electro-Cobrai by using them as living batteries for Nindroids.
  • He made Sensei Wu, who had been converted into a cyborg, fight his own students.
  • He broke a water tank to steal Electro-Cobrai from the Ninjago City Aquarium, putting the aquarium's visitors in danger of drowning or getting eaten by sharks.
  • He captured Lloyd, allowing the Overlord to drain most of the ninja's Golden Power and drop Garmadon in water and making Lloyd watch what happened.
  • He raided the Borg Tower with the Nindroids, attempting to trap the ninja in the Digiverse forever.
  • He had Cyrus Borg kidnapped and turned evil a second time.
  • He chained Kai under the rocket engines, expecting him to fry alive and joking about having a "barbecued ninja".
  • He raided the Borg Tower with The Overlord and The Nindroids again in order to stop Wu, Garmadon, Nya and P.I.X.A.L from helping The Ninja.
  • During the Overlord's battle with the ninja, he advised the former to attack civilians.
  • He shielded the Overlord from the shrinking pill, swallowing it himself. However, he most likely only saved the Overlord because he wanted him to destroy the ninja.

Day of the Departed[]

  • Although he had already earned the respect of his ancestors and was given a second chance by that point, he chose to remain evil and seek revenge on Lloyd instead.
  • While he referred to Cryptor as a friend, they were really nothing more than associates, and Pythor even threatened to reprogram the Nindroid simply for questioning his claims.
  • He expressed no respect or sympathy to Garmadon for his sacrifice, even though it was done partially for his sake (or at least for the sake of Pythor's people) and felt like he was obligated to kill his son as well.
  • He threatened Misako when Lloyd couldn't protect her.

Pythor's Revenge[]

  • He stole the Thermodynamic Temperature Gauge from the ninja, intending to reveal it to the public to gain attention, even though it could've resulted in a lot of trouble for the ninja due to the contracts they signed to use it.
  • He threatened to drop sand bags on Zane if he didn't get the gauge, then dropped them anyway after the ninja seemingly gave in to his demands.

Crystalized[]

  • He mocked the Ninja about how the New Ninja arrested him and were more competent and skilled than they were.
  • He joined the Council of the Crystal King alongside several other enemies of the ninja to exact revenge on the ones he hated.
  • He attacked the Monastery with Aspheera, Vangelis, and The Mechanic to steal the Golden Weapons, nearly killing Wu, Nya, P.I.X.A.L., and Skylor.
  • Along with the other Council of the Crystal King members, he tried catch Lloyd and bring him to The Crystal King in order for him to kill Lloyd.
  • He attempted to kill Kai and an unconscious Cole until he was stopped by Skylor.
  • He fought Kai and Jay and tried to kill them until he was stopped by Jay.

What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]

  • While he's treated seriously most of the time, there are times when he isn't, especially in Season 4 where his size is a subject for jokes.
  • Although he's implied to have cannibalized his own kind, he nevertheless respects its legacy and was appalled by Chen's mockery of it. He also notably never subverts this respect and was forced to eat his own kind for survival. In addition, he appears to care about his fellow Serpentine despite mistreating some of them, since before betraying Lloyd, he expressed disgust at his intention of making the Serpentine his slaves. The most prominent display of this is shown in Pythor's Revenge, where he decides that as a "snake true to his kind", he should show them the gauge before revealing it to the humans, even though this would contribute nothing to his plans. While the Overlord's plan endangered Serpentine, even corrupting some of them, it's unknown if Pythor was aware of this.
  • He briefly showed some affection to a swamp rat he named Rodrigo and let it free after it had helped him escape.
    • Keep in mind that said swamp rat was previously chasing him in a hamster wheel to eat him, serving as a way for Pythor to constantly produce venom to make Chen's Anacondrai spell permanent.
  • He teamed up with the ninja to banish Chen for disrespecting his kind. While this wasn't entirely altruistic, given that one of the reasons he gave for helping them was to rule Ninjago himself, the fact that he also did it out of respect for other Anacondrai makes him On & Off.
