Demon. Born from a womb of shadows, sent to destroy their world and you still believe you belong?
~ Nuada showing his scorn for Hellboy.
The humans... they will tire of you. They have already turned against you. Leave them. Is it them, or us? Which holocaust should be chosen? We die... and the world will be poorer for it. Nuala, my sister...
~ Prince Nuada's last words as both he and Princess Nuala die together.

Prince Nuada Silverlance is the main antagonist in the 2008 superhero film Hellboy II: The Golden Army, the second and final installment of Guillermo del Toro's Hellboy duology.

He is the Elfish Prince of the Bethmora Clan who wants to save his own people from extinction by wiping out humanity who threaten their existence. To achieve this. Nuada searches for the three pieces of the Crown of Bethmora in order to control the legendary Golden Army, which puts him at odds with Hellboy and the B.P.R.D., becoming Hellboy's second archenemy after Grigori Rasputin.

He was portrayed by Luke Goss.

His Evil Ranking[]

Debated Validations[]

  • It is possible that he has moral standards about not hurting animals as after he kills the BPRD guards, he says "Good dog." to one of the guard dogs after it licks the blood on his hand. However, this could also just be a random moment and the only reason why he doesn't kill the dog is because he doesn't see it as necessary and his words "Good dog." could just be him being cocky, making this a debated validation.

What Makes Him Heinous?[]

  • He attaches a squid-like creature to the face of an auctioneer, killing him painfully and has two security guards assaulted by Wink.
  • He unleashes tooth fairies which kill all the staff and the 70 guests at the auction. The tooth fairies do not kill their targets instantly, but rather they slowly devour them, starting from the skin and working their way inside the target's body which makes this even worse.
  • The tooth fairies later two of Hellboy's fellow agents while they are investigating the scene.
  • Nuada threatens a royal servant with death just because the latter asked him to leave his weapons behind. He is only stopped when his sister, Nuala, intervenes.
  • Nuada kills all 13 guards who attempt to kill him and protect his father, King Balor from him.
  • Right after this, he stabs King Balor and takes the crown piece embedded in his stomach.
  • He unleashes a forest god known as an elemental, which causes a lot of destruction to the city to get revenge on Hellboy for Wink's death. There were two confirmed casulaties who were in a helicopter
  • He kills all of the guards stationed outside pf the BPRD.
  • He fatally stabs Hellboy during his fight with him and subsequently threatens not to save him unless the other agents of the BPRD brought him the remaining crown piece. It is revealed that it is impossible to remove the blade without the use of magic meaning Nuada stabbed Hellboy with no intention of saving him.
  • After he takes the remaining crown piece, he awakens the Golden Army, with the intention of using them to wipe out all humanity. He then orders them to kill Hellboy and his friends.
  • After Hellboy challenges him for the right to command the Golden Army, Nuada accepts and tries to kill him once more.
  • After Hellboy spares him and takes the Golden Crown away, Nuada tries to stab him in the back. This leads to Princess Nuala sacrificing her life by stabbing herself in the stomach to kill Nuada and end his genocidal quest once and for all.

What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]

  • He genuinely cares about his race, doing everything in his power to protect them from extinction. He went into exile and swore to return the day his people needed him most which he did. He also never kills anyone from his own kind that is not in his way.
  • He always loved his father. While he killed him, the reason for it was because he saw his father as someone who prevented him from saving his people. He is still remorseful about killing him as he states, "I always loved you, father..." with a heartbroken and devastated look and a shaky voice.
  • He genuinely cared about his minion, Wink, as he is shown to be affable towards him and is saddened upon hearing of his death at the hands of Hellboy.
  • When Hellboy is about to kill the elemental, Prince Nuada tries to persuade him to join his side and says, "Look at [the elemental]... the last of its kind. Like you and I. You kill it, the world will never see its light again. You have more in common with us than with [humans]. You could be a king. But if you cannot command, then you must obey..."
  • He loves his sister, Princess Nuala shown when he respects her request not to kill the royal servant. He also seems shocked when Nuala stabs herself to kill them both, muttering her name silently before they succumb to their wounds.
  • He is honorable, as he gives Hellboy a weapon before their final battle. However, he also tries to stab him in the back after Hellboy spares him, so exactly how much honor he has is debatable.
  • His death scene is played for sympathy as sad music plays in the background while he is dying and his last words to Hellboy are "The humans... they will tire of you. They have already turned against you. Leave them... is it them or us? Which holocaust should be chosen? We die, and the world will be poorer for it." This moment also shows that he has some genuine sympathy for Hellboy. Thus, he is tragic also.
