Petey TheCat, better known as Petey the Cat, is one of the two deuteragonists (alongside his son Li'l Petey) of Dav Pilkey's Dog Man book series.
He is an evil anthropomorphic cat with a tragic past and is Dog Man's former arch-nemesis. He is an incredibly intelligent inventor, who creates all sorts of technology to commit crimes. However, thanks to his son Li'l Petey, he had a change of heart and became a helpful ally to the heroes.

What Makes Him Heinous?[]
- He joined Dr. Dilbert Dinkle seemingly on purpose.
- He temporarily killed Rip Van Tinkle after he betrayed him by drinking him, which later turned him into urine.
- He aided Dr. Dinkle, later known as Rip Van Tinkle, in his plans to destroy every toilet in the world, which tortured all of the citizens by leaving them unable to pee, eventually forcing them all to wet their pants (although this issue eventually got fixed by the mayor allowing everyone to pee into the community pool).
- After Dr. Dinkle threatens to take all of Petey's profit, Petey gets mad and temporarily kills Dr. Dinkle by absorbing him with toilet paper.
- He tried to kill Super Diaper Baby and Diaper Dog with his giant "mecha" suit, and while this could be counted as mere kill-the-hero villainy, Super Diaper Baby in question is a child who is implied to have only been around a month old at the time.
- He ignited a bomb that killed Officer Knight and Greg the Dog as well as presumably the environment around them.
- He created air fresheners that hypnotized the cops into obeying him and tried to make them destroy Dog Man.
- After learning that Dog Man doesn’t like baths, he terrorized him by chasing him with a hose until he tunneled into a skunk enclosure that the city zoo, which caused him to get sprayed and completely embarrassed him.
- He created an evil vacuum cleaner robot that would vacuum up Dog Man.
- He escaped jail after being given a can of Invisible Spray.
- He terrorized every person that shopped at the mayor's villainous stores by pulling their pants down, running the stores out of business and eventually causing the destruction of all of them by means of manipulating Robo-Chief, which also ended up killing Robo-Chief himself. However, it can be argued that Robo-Chief can barely be considered a victim due to being created by the evil mayor and intended for use in her schemes.
- He escaped prison once again to see why Dog Man was so smart.
- He erased all meaning of all books except his in the world to make everyone stupid. Due to this, people did extremely stupid and violent things, such as lighting up a car filled with gasoline, exploding the car.
- He gave life to the Leader Weenie and is indirectly responsible for the crimes he committed. While the latter wasn't intentional, he also showed no remorse for it.
- He used the Leader Weenie to escape prison and didn't even thank him yet instead laughed when he simply asked if they could be friends.
- He attempted to crush every dog in the city when his only target was Dog Man.
- He indirectly created Flat Petey while executing one of his prison break schemes.
- He escaped prison once again to see who was impostering him.
- He brainwashed many civilians to make them fall in love with him and give him their valuable possessions.
- He tried to brainwash Dog Man.
- He escaped from prison again just to be free.
- He betrayed his new clone Li'l Petey and abandoned him in the wild.
- He tried to influence Li'l Petey to be evil despite knowing he doesn't want to be a villain.
- He escaped from the clutches of Chief by tricking him into thinking he was going to reform himself.
- He kidnapped Li'l Petey from Dog Man.
- He tried to sabotage the Dog Man movie multiple times, such as kidnapping Yolay Caprese (who he even attempted to have dropped to her death) and creating and brainwashing the Mecha-Weenies and Supa-Mecha Philly.
- He used Supa-Mecha Philly to destroy the city.
- Even after his redemption, he still retains some villainous attributes, such as being rude and arrogant to others.
What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]
- While he is sometimes taken seriously, there are many moments where he is played for laughs (such as his first defeat where Super Diaper Baby and Diaper Dog made him go crazy by filling the Robo-Kitty 3000 with catnip, or him being fooled around with by his butler or Li’l Petey), which prevents him from being PE or NPE.
- He is genuinely tragic as his mother died of an illness not much longer after his abusive father betrayed the both of them, which in itself happened after the members of the Critter Scouts betrayed Petey also, which made him went into the path of villainy, which is played for sympathy. showing that he only became a villain because of his past life. making him a Villain by Proxy
- Even before he redeemed himself, he already showed remorse for some of his actions: such as feeling remorse for betraying his clone and even went out all night to try and find him, he was also on-and-off due to genuinely caring for Li'l Petey and even sacrificing his own life for him.
- By the end of the fifth book, Petey starts a redemption arc started by Li'l Petey. Throughout the next books until around Fetch-22 and Grime and Punishment, Petey would continue trying to do good and by the tenth book, he had fully redeemed himself and since then has been a helpful ally to the heroes.
- He loves his late mother Grace as he reformed himself because he saw Li'l Petey as the living embodiment of her love. Even before redeeming himself, he kept her ukulele in his lab rather than just throwing it away, further suggesting he never stopped caring about her.
