| “ | Pencil: Others can clean that mess! I'M NOT LOSING AGAIN, GOLF BALL! Golf Ball: THIS IS MORE IMPORTANT! Pencil: To YOU, maybe. You have NO IDEA what it's like to be stuck in a classroom for 6 YEARS!! I TRIED to be a good leader, to be the one to get us out of there, and Roboty was the one to save the day in the end! And now... now everyone I knew and trusted is gone.. and the people I DO know won't even TALK to me! So maybe I WANT to avoid being put up for elimination! Maybe it IS more important to me, BECAUSE I CAN'T GO BACK THERE! I can't.. go back there. Maybe those failed debuters were right. Maybe changing the past... might SAVE me! Donut: Pencil! NO! |

Pencil is a major character in the Battle for Dream Island web series.
As her name suggests, she is a sapient No. 2 graphite pencil, and is one of the many contestants in the series, competing in every single season in the show. While she does occasionally cause trouble at times, she is the leader of FreeSmart, her alliance that would be broken up in BFB when she became more abusive, leading to her being trapped in the E.X.I.T for 6 years, however she would join TPOT and is currently still competing to win. She is also Match's best friend, the archenemy of Spongy and Four, the former best friend-turned-arch-rival and killer of Book, and the arch-rival of Golf Ball.
She is voiced by series co-creator Michael Huang, who also voices Yellow Face and Blocky in the same series as well as Golf Ball in the Why is the BFDI Mouth everywhere? short.
Her Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Her Heinous?[]
In General[]
- Pencil was always quite rude to people, more specifically to Bubble, this only worsened in BFB and even more so in the BFDIA revival and TPOT, where she began to actually manipulate and abuse her.
- While she is very tragic, she was always a horrible person even before her tragedy even though the tragedy only made her worse and still holds up very much.
- While people like One and the Announcer do worse, Pencil has much fewer resources then all of them due to not having any cosmic abilities or having access to things like control over the show.
- From 2023 episodes onward, starting with the BFDIA revival episode "Well Rested", her most corrupting qualities got worse and worse. A lot of her behavior is quite petty and downright ridiculous, and it's often a result of her warped sense of pride or the idea that she can just do whatever she wants.
- She has a kill count in the hundreds, most coming from her killing a bunch of recommended characters randomly all because she was "tired of them."
- While the recommended characters and the contestants can be revived via recovery, they are still capable of feeling pain.
- While people like Blocky and Announcer have a much higher kill count, Pencil still stands out due to having one of the largest body-counts in the series.
Battle for Dream Island[]
- In "Sweet Tooth", She randomly ridicules Bubble with Match just because she "can't count to three" even if it is clear that she can, but is always killed before she gets to three.
- While after Bubble finally manages to count to three Pencil is more kinder to her, Pencil and Match never say sorry for this.
- In "Recession", She kills Firey for killing Bubble, and while this is justified, she then kills Leafy for "being in her way", and 105 recommended characters for no reason other then being "tired of them".
- In "Vomitaco", she popped Bubble just because she didn’t want to hear any of her questions.
Battle for Dream Island Again[]
- In "Insectophobe's Nightmare 3", after recovering Bubble and watching her pop, she berates Bubble even if this wasn't her fault at all.
- In "Zeeky Boogy Doog", when Gelatin saves Match from being crushed to death, sacrificing himself, both she and Match literally have no care, stating that Gelatin is "so bad at life saving".
- In "Get in the Van", she forms the Elimination Prevention Plan, and while this was simply her doing a favor for Match to win, she is still cheating by allowing Match to stay even if she got kicked off.
- In "No More Snow!", when Book asks about Team No-Name while FreeSmart are escaping Evil Leafy, Pencil simply states that none of them should care about them if they want to win, basically leaving the entire team to die.
- She also berated Ruby so much to the point of making her cry, and while Ruby wasn't listening to her about which button to press, there was no reason to shout at her that much.
- Though she does feel remorse for this, she goes right back to being rude to her later on.
- In "The Long Lost Yoyle City", she kicks Rocky off the mountain because he barfed on her all the way back in season 1, which was years ago.
- In "Well Rested", she forces Ice Cube to sit in the trunk of her van because of the horrible music playing on her headphones.
- In "Meaty":
- She uses a magnet to get the knife out of Puffball Speaker Box, only to be hit by the knife, screaming in pain.
- She also brings a zappy out and shoots it at Team No-Name's car, endangering them, she then gives this to Ruby, allowing her to do the same thing.
- In "Well, Look Who It Is!", she heartlessly mocks the eliminated contestants in the Weak Trembling Fortress by laughing at them alongside the other contestants.
- In "🥚", she uses the HPRC to get rid of Golf Ball by typing "BOZO BALL BE GONE" only for it to fail.
- She even pulls out a paprika spray on Pin.
IDFB[]
- She tells Book that she believes Match to be Needy, and that she doesn't really want to try to get Match out of the LOL, revealing that she slowly stopped caring for her over time.
Battle for BFDI/BFB[]
- In "Getting Teardrop to Talk", she is angered after seeing Bubble getting popped several times, and goes to figure out who popped her, she then randomly accuses Naily and nearly punishes her, though Loser interrupters her just in time.
- She also manipulates Lightning into zapping her enemies, torturing and possibly killing them in the process.
- She even subverted all of her previous care for Book and Ice Cube when the latter two decide to leave FreeSmart due to how unleathy it was to them.
- She continues to do this throughout the entire episode, and even consistently manipulates Bubble into letting Lightning do it, making her cry and both she and Match end up demoting her to a bember.
Battle for Dream Island: The Power of Two[]
- In "I SAID CAREFUL!!!", she harasses Book and Ice Cube into joining her alliance, even though the two have no interest in doing so.
- In "Seasonal Shift", she endangers the universe after recklessly teleporting to Return of the Hang Glider and fighting with Pillow, leading for Leafy to be let onto Dream Island on accident and nearly glitching out the entire universe, all because of her selfishness.
- While some people believe this to be justified, as she believes that if she loses the challenge she will be eliminated and sent to some place like the E.X.I.T, she still went way too far.
- In "Bottle for Dream Island", she attempts to reconnect with Book and attempts to make her join her. However when Book shows that she still hates her since BFB, and rejects her offer, she throws her off the Fourse.
- In "Last One Standing":
- She kills many contestants (including her former friend Book) in extremely brutal ways in order to win the challenge and get more of Two's power, only sparing Grassy, resulting in contestants killing each other as well.
- She insulted Grassy, causing him to tear up and burst into tears, which she apologizes for.
- She stole Four's powers, and blasted him off of the hotel roof even after he begged for mercy, causing him to get kidnapped by One as she trapped him inside of the moon.
- She also signed One's deal in exchange for Two and Four's powers in hopes to possibly go back to the past to fix her friendships (though it’s more likely she was obliterated into ashes). This allowed One to take over the universe.
What Makes Her Inconsistent?[]
- While Pencil is taken completely seriously in TPOT, with her actions of endangering the universe and taking away Four's powers being played for horror, she is still played for laughs and is far too comedic to be NPE, given how nothing she does outside of endangering the universe in TPOT 15 is taken seriously, and none of her worst crimes or murderers are taken seriously at all either.
- She's genuinely tragic, as due to being the first one eliminated, she spent the longest time in the E.X.I.T, which was 6 years, to make matters worse she was also stuck with people like David and Bracelety, both who can get very annoying at times. Even though she was a horrible person before this, being stuck in a classroom for 6 years straight is still way too far as punishment for her heinous crimes.
- She's also extremely insecure:
- Despite taking drastic measures, she really did want to befriend Book and Ice Cube as she wanted them to be friends again, and felt insecure upon them constantly rejecting her.
- After the final rejection in "Bottle for Dream Island" where Book flat-out tells Pencil that she still hates her since BFB, she is left extremely hurt and regretful in the clubhouse and sits there all alone and upset out of what happened, causing Pen to come and comfort her, even if he likely had failed.
- In "Last One Standing", she proves her insecurities by being willing to give all of Two and Four's powers to a completely random person she just met in order for a chance to go back to the past and undo every bad decision she made, showing her desperation to fix her relationships with her friends.
- Despite taking drastic measures, she really did want to befriend Book and Ice Cube as she wanted them to be friends again, and felt insecure upon them constantly rejecting her.
- She could also be considered an Anti-Villain due to how sympathetic her tragedy is and how her villainy in TPOT doesn't stem from anything genuinely evil but only from a fear of not wanting to go back to places like the EXIT again.
- She could also arguably be considered a scapegoat due to how long she spent in the EXIT and how she can sometimes be subjected to pretty brutal deaths in the series, an example being when a swarm of bugs infects her brutally, leaving her dead.
- She's also extremely insecure:
- While she subverted all of her previous care for Book and Ice Cube since BFB, she has many people she cares for:
- She cares extensively for her alliance (especially with Match and Ruby) and is highly protective of them.
- She holds a strong friendship for Match, the two love to spend time together and solve problems.
- Despite being briefly abusive to her in No More Snow!, she also genuinely adores Ruby alot.
- She is also good friends with Needle, having worked together in BFDIA 14, and Pencil also genuinely misses Needle once she got out.
- She also holds genuine respect and admiration for Pen, Liy, Loser, Bracelety and Pin.
- She cares extensively for her alliance (especially with Match and Ruby) and is highly protective of them.
- She is On & Off, as sometimes she can do heroic deeds in episodes, such as playing a huge role in the escape from the E.X.I.T., teaming up with the eliminated contestants (including Golf Ball, her arch-rival) to stop Pin from destroying Dream Island But Ugly, and sometimes being kind to her alliance members in some episodes.
- She has a few "Pet the Dog" moments and can feel remorseful for her crimes at times:
- She feeds Firey a Yoyleberry so that he does not burn down the Weak Trembling Fortress.
- She apologizes to Ruby after making her cry, and seems to genuinely feel remorse for this, not intending to have gone that far.
- She apologizes to Grassy for making him cry and makes sure he was safe in the vents of the hotel rather than kill him for the challenge in spite of him doing nothing but annoying her the entire time.
