Orochimaru is a major character in the manga/anime series Naruto and a supporting character in its sequel series Boruto. He is one of the Three Legendary Sannin from the Hidden Leaf Village, alongside his former friends Jiraiya and Tsunade, the former student of Third Hokage Hiruzen Sarutobi, and a traitor to the Hidden Leaf Village who was obsessed with gaining power for himself.
Following his death by his former student Sasuke Uchiha and his resurrection, he later develops into an anti-hero, serving as an ally to the village. Ever since then, he's been living his own life while being heavily supervised by the Hidden Leaf. He is also the creator and father of Log and Mitsuki, the latter who is part of Team 7 and best friends with Boruto Uzumaki.
He is voiced by Kujira in Japanese and by Steve Blum in English, who also voiced Amon in The Legend of Korra.

What Makes Him Heinous?[]
- While his parents died at a young age, causing him to seek immortality in which his original goal was to do so to revive them, this doesn't make him sympathetic since he murdered countless people who had nothing to do with his tragedy. Furthermore, he doesn't seem very affected by their deaths in the present, admitting he completely forgot the reason why he wanted immortality to begin with.
- He betrayed the Hidden Leaf Village in pursuit of his own power, then experimented on multiple people which led to their deaths. This included experimenting on civilians of the Hidden Leaf Village.
- He experimented on "sixty worthy children" by testing out Hashirama Senju's DNA for his own interests. His experimentation led to the deaths of all the children except for one named Yamato.
- He joined the Akatsuki after betraying the village, and was planning to take over Pain's body for his Rinnegan.
- He attempted to take over Itachi Uchiha's body for his Sharingan.
- He gave Anko the cursed seal when she was younger. Due to her history with Orochimaru, he was her personal enemy.
- He preyed on orphaned children by psychologically manipulating them to follow him and subsequently be his pawns to go on missions for him.
- He masterminded the Sand and Sound Village invasion of the Hidden Leaf Village. He intended to have both armies destroy the village and slaughter everyone.
- He assassinated the leader of the Sand Village, the Fourth Kazekage, and impersonated him to fool his allies.
- He infiltrated the Hidden Leaf Village during the Chuunin Exams. During the Forest of Death exam, he picked a nearly-lethal fight with Team 7 where he knocked Naruto unconscious by placing a seal on him to suppress the power of the Nine-Tails. After fighting Sasuke, he gave Sasuke the Cursed Seal of Heaven and preyed on him to embrace his evil impulses. The cursed seal caused Sasuke such intense pain that he lost consciousness.
- Before the Sand-Sound invasion of the Hidden Leaf Village, he murdered his loyal minions, Zaku and Kin, by using them as sacrifices to revive Hashirama Senju and Tobirama Senju with the Impure World Reincarnation in preparation to fight Hiruzen with his new pawns.
- During the final stage of the Chuunin Exams, he had his army attack the Hidden Leaf Village. Orochimaru engaged in an intense battle against the Third Hokage where he revived Hashirama Senju and Tobirama Senju to fight his former teacher, Hiruzen Sarutobi, to the death.
- During the battle, he took away both Hashirama and Tobirama's personalities immediately after reviving them and used them as killing-machines to try and kill Hiruzen.
- He intended to kill Hiruzen during the fight, but because of using the Impure World Reincarnation technique, Hiruzen was forced to use the suicidal Death Reaper jutsu, which resulted in his death.
- The invasion caused extensive property damage and nearly led to the deaths of many people.
- He tracked down Tsunade and wanted her to restore his arms, which Hiruzen rendered useless due to using the Death Reaper Jutsu. He then threatened her and engaged in a major battle against his former teammates, Tsunade and Jiraiya, along with Naruto, intending to use his healed hands to resume his goal of destroying the Leaf Village.
- He preyed on Sasuke and had the Sound Ninja Four escort him out of the village to help Sasuke in his goal to be an avenger of the Uchiha Clan by teaching him to be a powerful fighter.
- While he was interested in training Sasuke, he did not care about him or his goals, and wanted to take over Sasuke's body in order to get the Sharingan.
- His influence on Sasuke's departure from the Hidden Leaf Village caused emotional pain to Team 7 and Sasuke's former allies.
- In the anime-only arc, it is revealed that Orochimaru assisted Amachi in his illicit experimentations and businesses.
- It is revealed that Orochimaru stays immortal by taking over his victim's body. The process has him take on the disguise of his victim. However, the process leaves his victim's soul unconscious and trapped perpetually within Orochimaru's mind. It is shown that he has done this to at least three people.
- He expressed no concern when all members of the Sound Five died on their mission to retrieve Sasuke from the Hidden Leaf Village.
- He taunted Naruto in their fight when he first encountered him after over two years. This caused Naruto to go into a rage and become the four-tails version of the Nine-Tails.
- It is revealed that he gave dozens of people the Cursed Mark so that he can control them. In addition, it is revealed that Orochimaru keeps conscious versions of himself in every cursed seal he gives others.
- During Sasuke's battle against Itachi, he attempted to take over Sasuke's body when he was at his limits in his fight against his brother.
- For some time before his revival, Orochimaru left behind an infamous legacy. Kabuto, who struggled with his identity, took on his legacy of seeking out power and would commit terrible crimes under his new identity formed from Orochimaru's influence.
- While Naruto’s heinous standard is high, he still stands out for trying to destroy his own village.
What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]
- By the time of the Fourth Great Ninja War, he assists Sasuke in the goal to stop the Akatsuki forces without showing any hidden agenda.
- He helped treat the Kage after their battle against Madara where they all nearly died. When he heard Jiraiya died, Orochimaru was upset that his former comrade was dead.
- In The Perfect Day for a Wedding arc of the anime, he is constantly played for laughs.
- Years after the war, he is now an anti-hero and an ally to Naruto and Sasuke and helps provide them with intel. By assisting Naruto, Orochimaru is helping the Hidden Leaf Village. He has also abandoned any mission of destroying the Hidden Leaf Village.
- Orochimaru is a caring father-figure to his artificially-made son, Mitsuki, and tried to help him understand himself.
- He saved the Land of Valley from Victor when he attempted to unleash the God Tree upon every person in the country.
