Odin Borson is the main antagonist of the episode “What If…Hela Found the Ten Rings?” with Hela Odinsdottir being the main protagonist.
Odin raised her daughter Hela with her becoming his executioner. As they conquered the Nine Realms, Hela’s lust for power starts to outgrow his, but Odin strips her of her power and banishes her to Earth in an attempt at teaching her a lesson (à la what happened to Thor in his first film).
Odin is voiced by Jeff Bergman, while Hela is voiced by Cate Blanchett.
Their Evil Rankings[]
What makes them heinous?[]
- Odin led wars on various planets across the Nine Realms with Hela as his executioner, causing countless deaths in their wake with Hela wanting to continue their conquest to the rest of the cosmos much like his main universe version.
- This isn't offscreen villainy as we see some of it in the beginning of the episode so it don't rely on fridge-horror.
- The episode reveals that Odin treated Hela poorly when raising her such as taking away Fenris when she was a child to teach her a lesson.
- Hela tried getting the Ten Rings from Wenwu to enact her revenge on her father.
- When Heimdall tells Odin that he can no longer see Hela, believing she might have died by the Ten Rings, he goes to Earth to retrieve them from Wenwu leading to a battle between their armies.
What makes them inconsistent? []
- They both eventually redeem themselves as Odin gives Hela the throne after proving herself to be worthy, while Hela, at the end of the episode, wanting to bring peace to the cosmos and undo her father’s empire.
- Even before that, Odin banished Hela in an attempt at teaching her a lesson about peace.
- Hela is tragic as she was raised as a weapon by Odin with the episode revealing that he treated her poorly while raising her such as taking Fenris away which upset her.
- Hela also cares for Fenris being shown to be playing with him as a child and was upset when Odin took him away.
Trivia[]
- He is the second version of Odin after his main series version and first version of Hela to be Inconsistently Heinous.
- However, the difference for Odin is his that his main counterpart is treated as a hero by narrative with it shown in flashbacks or in paintings not long enough to paint him an villain while this version’s villainy is long enough to qualify.
- Ironically, this episode is what got the Sacred Timeline Hela to be removed as Pure Evil as her backstory and care for Fenris is further supported here (which shouldn't have changed, since this happened before her path was altered from the original MCU).
