What I've been planning for the last ten years. I'm ending the world.
~ Newton Geiszler to Hermann Gottlieb of his true intentions.
Hermann: Why? Why would you do this?
Newton: Why would I do this? Hmm.. Well, I guess I wouldn't. Not normally, not really my style. Yeah, no, I don't know. Maybe I hate you all for treating me like an insignificant little joke of a man. Maybe that's why he did it, Hermann. I did it. Well, let's see… there you go. There's the problem. I'm just not feeling totally myself these days.
Hermann: You... Precursors.
Newton: Very good, Hermann, you figured it out. And as usual, a step behind.
~ Newton Geiszler revealing his brain infection to Gottlieb.

Dr. Newton Geiszler is a major protagonist in the 2013 sci-fi monster action film Pacific Rim who later serves as the main antagonist of the 2018 sequel Pacific Rim: Uprising.

He is a former K-Science Lab scientist and Kaiju groupie who once saved the world, along with his best friend Hermann Gottlieb, by drifting with the Kaiju brains to expose their origins and intentions. After the events of the first Kaiju Apocalypse, he abused the kaiju-drifting to his advantage and later attached himself to the Precursors, abetting to the extermination of humanity under their noses.

He was portrayed by Charlie Day and Trek Buccino as a child.

His Evil Ranking[]

What Makes Him Heinous?[]

  • Before the events of Pacific Rim: Uprising, he is believed to have abused kaiju-drifting once that discovery is what saved his world from the Kaiju Apocalypse. This has been a factor throughout his heinous crimes.
  • He cloned Kaiju organs using its DNA, such as their brains, which were beneficial to his omnnicidal plans.
  • With all of his terrible actions, he incriminated his superior Liwen Shao for them.
  • He disconnected himself from Hermann Gottlieb, his best friend and rival, by dismissing his idea of Kaiju blood infused rocket fuel, and gloating him about his boss' potentially approved drones.
  • He manufactured the Jaeger Drones under Shao's name, utilizing their Kaiju secondary brains and making them prevalent across the globe, to wreck havoc amongst various countries, including the Moyulan Shatterdome where the Drones have wrecked and incapacitated several Jaegers. When the Rangers and PPDC officials suspected these schemes, they would accuse Shao for having allowed this and caused said destruction when it's him and the possessive Precursors.
    • To disguise his discreet plan, he supported Shao throughout the first half of the film.
    • He also named his drifting partner "Alice", which is a Kaiju secondary brain occasionally brought up during conversations, such as with Gottlieb about rocket thrusters.
  • He prioritized Obsidian Fury to attack the PPDC Summit by rampaging Sydney of Australia to approve Shao's Jaeger-Kaiju hybrid drones. In the process, he had Fury specifically target Secretary-General Mako Mori, who held the majority vote and would have warned the Rangers about the Drones' inconsistencies, later having her killed in a helicopter crash due to Fury's presumed cluster rockets that damaged the skylines.
  • He threatened and kicked his scientists and workers off the control room out of pragmatism to help Gottlieb save the world once again.
  • He ordered the current Jaeger Drones to open several breaches across the Pacific Rim, having spawned and attempting to spawn several upgraded Kaiju from its home-world, to which he successfully released Raijin, Hakuja, and Shrikethorn into the over-world.
    • In the same process, he betrayed Gottlieb and went out of his way to choke him to death. He would've succeeded if it hadn't been for Shao to arrive with his firearm aiming at him. The reason it was his was because he discarded it for her to pick up and utilize, for clarification.
    • He later cowardly escaped the situation to avoid punishment.
  • Unless shown he never did, he ordered the three Kaiju towards Mount Fuji and attempting to commit omnicide with chemistry of Kaiju blood and the volcano's lava.
  • He released hundreds of Rippers from Shao's warehouses in the MegaTokyo precinct, combining the three Kaiju into Mega-Kaiju, outweighing and overwhelming the four surviving Jaegers. This action had Suresh Khuran, a Guardian Bravo teenage pilot, killed, and incapacitated the Jaeger solely because of that reason, later destroying the other two (specifically Saber Athena and Bracer Phoenix) and incapacitating Gipsy Avenger before heading out to Mount Fuji.
  • He immediately switched to Plan B after his defeat, which is unknown, considering the injured Nate Lambert had knocked him out unconscious.
  • He never submitted to the humans about his Kaiju ideology, stating the current attacks were not their last and that they would prevail once again.
  • He easily passes the very high heinous standards given the resources and commitment to anticipate such a plan that would happen to almost commit omnicide (despite in the original film's ending that the Kaiju were far from omnicidal), had it not been for Jake Pentecost, Shao, and Amara Namani to stop the Mega-Kaiju in time also with their lowest resources.

What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]

  • He is too much of a scapegoat to be Near Pure Evil, due to how he became mentally ill from consistent kaiju-drifting abuse, and becoming a puppet for the Precursors, who enacted him to commit these crimes unlike his real self.
    • To add on, he showed some positive morality (albeit Moral Agency issues) to Gottlieb once choking him, by apologizing and stating that the Precursors are in his own head.
  • He's very incompetent, since he had some genuine comedic moments that detract from his villainy, such as his reaction to his foiling plans, accompanied by his comedic personality in the original film.
  • He saved the world once with Gottlieb, by warning Raleigh Becket and Stacker Pentecost of the Kaiju's breach access, helping Beckett reach the Precursors' realm and annihilating it with Gipsy Danger's nuclear reactor. Even adding on that he was persistent to save humanity from omnicide years before he became who he was meant to stop.

Trivia[]

  • He was supposed to be involved in another unconfirmed sequel Pacific Rim 3, but due to negative box office reception for Pacific Rim: Uprising and critical pan, chances for the sequel are very unlikely. If, however, Pacific Rim 3 were to be realized and released, his Inconsistently Heinous status would be affected.
