Mr. Landlord is the main antagonist of the Smiling Friends episode "A Allan Adventure." He is the psychotic landlord and arch-nemesis of Allan Red, with whom he has an unhealthy obsession. As a result, he orchestrates an entire plan to sabotage his adventure to find a box of paper clips, simply to force him into hanging out with him.
He was voiced by the series co-creator Zach Hadel, who also voices Gnarly in the same series.
His Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Him Heinous?[]
- Despite his insanity, the fact that he is able to make plans, claim that he has an “insane mind,” and belittle Alan as a "pathetic little ant" after falling victim to his scheme shows he has a clear moral agency.
- Simply because Allan wouldn't hang out with him, he hired paid actors and build animatronics to sabotage his quest to find paper clips for Mr. Boss. The impact of his plan not only resulted in the endangerment of Allan and many other people, but also caused the deaths of some:
- Firstly, he has DJ Spit steal his box of paperclips and take it away in his helicopter while Allan hangs on its rail. After Allan (barely) managed to make it, the brief tilt in the helicopter led to several birds being brutally shredded to death. As such, the situation endangered Allan and everyone near them, and caused a highly destructive airborne battle with the U.S. military. As the Air Force chases and shoots at them, one of the jets shoots out a missile, which blows up and causes the helicopter to crash with both of them. As a result, DJ Spit gets impaled by a helicopter blade through his stomach, which seriously injured him and possibly ended up killing him. Allan is left injured, disoriented and stranded in the forest.
- Secondly, he had the Sasquatch steal the paperclips and store them in his cave. Because he had to go into his cave, Sasquatch also attempted to kill Allan.
- Thirdly, he hired a crew of Skeleton Pirates to steal the paperclips, forcing Allan to chase them with a raft after their captain decapitates Sasquatch (which was deliberately ordered by Mr. Landlord for apparently no reason). After the pirates throw a grenade at him, Allan survives by riding two of the boards of the broken raft as a pair of water-skis before they all get eaten by a gigantic Leviathan, killing all of the Skeleton Crew members, along with the captain, who died after getting impaled by his cutlass after landing in the monster's stomach. The leviathan later shoots Allan out of its blowhole after he repeatedly stabs its stomach out of anger, with Allan washing up ashore.
- Mr. Landlord proved to be a rather terrible employer throughout this ordeal, as he did not care about any of his minions' lives.
- Allan's quest ultimately just led to him finding a note in the box directing him to his apartment, meaning the entire adventure was literally pointless and done simply to abuse Allan.
- After Mr. Landlord revealed himself to be behind the quest, he showed no trace of remorse for his actions. Instead, after he lured Allan to his apartment, he further proved how ruthless he truly is by threatening to blow up everyone and everything in the city, including Allan and himself, with a bomb strapped around him if the latter doesn’t agree to hang out with him.
- After he and Allan play Burnout: Revenge on the PS2, he obnoxiously insults Allan’s gameplay, even as Mr. Landlord rams his vehicle within the game.
- After surviving his suicide attempt, he still doesn't let up, and insists that Allan will hang out with him again.
- He stands out enough from other villains like the Frowning Friends, Mr. Frog, and Oscar, who all have higher resources, because of his attempt to destroy an entire city, giving him a high attempted kill count, and also for endangering many people and causing multiple deaths.
What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]
- Due to the nature of the series, he is far too comedic to be NPE and is not taken seriously at all. His entire plan to sabotage Allan’s quest to find paper clips was just so that he could get the latter to hang out and spend time with him. Not only is such not foul or sinister in itself, but its also far too much of a ridiculous idea.
- He also has other comedic traits: his eccentric behavior and fast-talking, his peculiar and oddly specific catchphrase, his defeat at Allan's hands, who disabled his bomb with a mere paperclip, and his final suicide attempt, where he randomly stabs himself with a katana, somehow believing that he dishonored his ancestors.
- While it was twisted, he genuinely wants to form a friendship with Allan and hang out. It proves sincere when they play together and Mr. Landlord is affable to him, encouraging Allan to do better at the game albeit harshly.
- He holds great respect for his ancestors, as he tried to take his life by stabbing his katana through his stomach after feeling as though he dishonored them when his plan was foiled.
