You're fired!
~ Mr. Krabs' famous catchphrase.

Oh, boohoo! Let me play a sad song for you on the world's smallest violin! (plays violin)
~ Mr. Krabs mocking Squidward Tentacles.

Eugene Harold Krabs, better known as Mr. Krabs, is a major character in Nickelodeon's SpongeBob SquarePants franchise. He is the money-obsessed founder of the Krusty Krab, as well the archrival of his ex best friend, Plankton.

Although he is one of the series' main characters, Mr. Krabs is frequently known for having a villainous side throughout the series' run, especially when his money obsession incited him to make bad decisions on several occasions such as lying, stealing, and making schemes to make more money. Because of this, he can be seen as the main antagonist in several episodes.

He is usually voiced by Clancy Brown, who also voiced Lex Luthor in the DC Animated Universe and Dr. Neo Cortex in the Crash Bandicoot video game series. In a few video games, he is voiced by Joe Whyte and Bob Joles. In SpongeBob SquarePants: Typing, he is voiced by Patrick Pinney. In the Broadway musical adaptation, he was portrayed by Brian Ray Norris.

His Evil Ranking[]

What Makes Him Heinous?[]

In General/Background[]

  • While Plankton was only truly heinous in the first movie, Mr. Krabs has generally been shown to be more villainous and criminal than even Plankton to the point where Plankton often ends up as Krabs' victim and has even expressed his disgust towards Krabs' actions, saying: "And I thought I was evil!", in "The Krabby Kronicle".
  • He generally forces SpongeBob SquarePants and Squidward Tentacles to work in horrible working conditions and pays them very little, and it's even shown that in "Squid on Strike", they have to pay him just for doing completely normal things other than working, such as breathing, standing, and existing. It was also shown in "One Coarse Meal" that he pays them with fake money (Wacky Bucks) whenever he doesn't feel like giving them their paychecks. The very way he treats them is one of the main reasons (along with SpongeBob and Patrick repeatedly pestering him) why Squidward is always such a grumpy, miserable and pessimistic person.
    • On a few occasions, such as in the episodes, "Pizza Delivery", "Graveyard Shift", "Squid on Strike", and "Fear of a Krabby Patty", he forces them to work non-stop while unable to go home, which is illegal. In the former episode, SpongeBob and Squidward almost died from hunger and dehydration, and in the latter episode, not only were SpongeBob and Squidward extremely tired, but SpongeBob started hallucinating giant, homicidal Krabby Patties as well.
    • In "Big Pink Loser", Patrick had to pay Mr. Krabs $50 an hour just to work at the Krusty Krab, and SpongeBob stated he had to pay him $100 an hour when he was new to the job as well.
  • He is so greedy and obsessed with money that he frequently puts his customers lives at risk just to make money, doing things like feeding them an extreme amount of grease, poisoning them, getting them to ride an old ship without testing to see if it was safe (which backfired on him as it got him arrested), and using molten lava to make sure that they would not escape his restaurant. This also causes him to make his customers pay absurd amounts of money, such as when he tricks them into thinking Krabby Patties would be free, only for them to have to pay a dollar per footstep.
  • While he does genuinely love his daughter, Pearl, he isn't always the best dad to her, as he sometimes neglects her, and his greed has ruined many of her birthdays as seen in episodes like "Squeaky Boots" and "Whale of a Birthday".
  • Even though he had a tragic past of growing up poor in squalor, making him the target of abuse and bullying at school along with Plankton, this excuse is extremely petty to justify his actions and a motive which is his toxic greed and obsession with money even if it is caused by his poor past out of fear of becoming poor. This is especially so because he is no longer in poverty, but still chooses to be vile and still tends to be cheap because of his obsession and his villainy is often portrayed comically and not tragically which absolves him from any seriousness.
  • While he went through a horrific experience in the first movie with Plankton framing him for stealing King Neptune's crown, which results in him getting burned, being frozen solid for six days straight, having his formula stolen with him being unable to do anything about it, and he would have been executed if it wasn't for SpongeBob and Patrick returning with the crown at the last second, his actions have become so much worse in the seasons released after the first movie to the point where he can no longer be considered a scapegoat.
    • Also while he, along with Patrick and Squidward, is stretched, thrown, whacked around, and played roughly by the two kids Sue Nahmee pays off, as if they were just lifeless toys in Saving Bikini Bottom: The Sandy Cheeks Movie, this still doesn’t make him a scapegoat, due to his actions.

Kamp Koral: SpongeBob's Under Sea Years[]

  • In "Outhouse Outrage", he unknowingly tortured a sentient outhouse by throwing his daughter's dirty diapers in it until it exploded. While he had no idea the outhouse was sentient at first, after the spirit of the outhouse confronted Krabs and exposed what he did to them, he showed zero remorse for his actions and attempted to justify them by saying there was no diaper service in the woods.

SpongeBob SquarePants (including movies)[]

  • In "Pickles", it's shown that the Krusty Krab does actually have a refund policy, however, Mr. Krabs wrote it so small on the sign that it's almost impossible to see. Additionally, when he's forced to give Bubble Bass a $2 refund, he takes the $2 out of SpongeBob's paycheck.
  • In "Squeaky Boots", he tricks SpongeBob into taking his rubber boots in exchange for his paycheck, as well as him painting the Krusty Krab for free, and a year supply of French fry orders, however, he eventually decides that he needs to get rid of the boots because he can't stand listening to the squeaky noise that they make, so at night he breaks into SpongeBob's house and steals the boots and then he takes them back to the Krusty Krab and hides them under the floorboard. This causes SpongeBob to cry when he comes to work the next day due to him believing that he lost Mr. Krabs' boots.
  • In "Arrgh!", he hired Patrick Star just so that he can immediately fire him because Patrick chose to send him to the brig when he, Patrick, and SpongeBob were playing a board game.
    • When Fred walked into the Krusty Krab for a Krabby Patty, Mr. Krabs threw him out of the restaurant.
    • After getting addicted to the board game he kept harassing SpongeBob and even intruded his house to get him to keep playing the board game with him.
    • After he decides to go on a real treasure hunt to find the Flying Dutchman's treasure and recruits SpongeBob and Patrick as his crew he starts acting like a tyrannical control freak towards them, condemning them for being hungry and thirsty and refusing to let them see the map. He also forced them to sleep on the cold ground while he gets to sleep in a warm tent.
    • After they finally find the treasure he refused to share it with SpongeBob and Patrick and wanted to keep it all to himself. Additionally, when the trio are confronted by the Flying Dutchman because they dug up his treasure, Krabs immediately puts the blame on SpongeBob and Patrick.
  • In "Neptune's Spatula", he told SpongeBob that he had full confidence in him winning the fry cook challenge, only for him to then bet all of his money on King Neptune, which shows that he was actually lying and didn't have any confidence in SpongeBob at all. Additionally, when SpongeBob sees Mr. Krabs crying after he won, he thinks it's because of him being forced to go to Atlantis to be Neptune's fry cook, and he reassures Mr. Krabs that he will miss him too, however, it's then revealed that Mr. Krabs was actually crying because he lost all of the money that he bet on Neptune, showing just how selfish he can be.
  • In "Hooky", he initially warns SpongeBob and Patrick about the danger of hooks to make sure they don't get killed by fishermen and sold on the surface, but once SpongeBob forgets about the lesson due to Patrick's peer pressure the following day, Krabs and Squidward set up a fake hook up for him to see if he has learned. This results in a scared SpongeBob ripping his pants off in front of Krabs, his daughter Pearl and her friends, only to then get his underpants ripped off and be launched naked against the Krusty Krab's doors, making him a laughingstock for all those present at the restaurant.
    • Though SpongeBob did deserve a lesson, Krabs and Squidward had no right to publicly humiliate and traumatize him just for him to learn to take care of himself.
  • In "Bubble Buddy", he forces Squidward to cater to Bubble Buddy's every whim or else he will fill his life with misery and woe. Additionally, he also joins Squidward and the other Bikini Bottomites in trying to pop Bubble Buddy because of SpongeBob paying him with useless bubble money instead of actual money. What makes this worse is that Bubble Buddy is actually a sentient being, although to be fair, Krabs, Squidward, and the other Bikini Bottomites had no idea that this was the case until the end of the episode.
  • In "Patty Hype", he gives SpongeBob the key to the Krusty Krab so that he can take over the Pretty Patties stand and use its success to make a bunch of money. This is also despite the fact that he and Squidward made fun of SpongeBob's Pretty Patty idea earlier.
  • In "Life of Crime", he stole a barrel from Salty Sea Farms, a towel from the Sizzling Spring Sauna, a Bikini Bell phone, Sandy's hedge clippers, Plankton's lawnmower, and even Mrs. Puff's hair curlers. He also lied to SpongeBob and Patrick that he just "borrowed" these items and tells them that they can borrow anything they want, anytime, as long as they give it back before it's missed, which later results in them "borrowing" a balloon.
    • Additionally, at the beginning of the same episode, he said that there is nothing worse than a thief and that thieves not only need to be locked up forever, but also that they should be strung up by their gills and forced to breathe air, which is completely hypocritical since Mr. Krabs is a thief himself.
  • In "Pressure", he along with SpongeBob, Patrick, and Squidward makes fun of Sandy for being a land creature, and when she starts drowning after taking her suit and helmet off, not only do they not care that she could possibly die, but Mr. Krabs and SpongeBob also breathe in and out just to taunt her. Additionally, after Sandy manages to stop herself from drowning by putting on a pickle jar, Mr. Krabs calls her a airhead to mock her even further.
    • While she did make fun of them for being sea creatures and willingly took the suit and helmet off to prove that she's better than them, this doesn't change the fact that they were still being needlessly cruel.
  • In "The Smoking Peanut", he secretly steals a pearl from Clamu, which greatly upsets the gentle creature, thus causing it to have a loud, crying fit that causes a disruption throughout the world. Sandy Cheeks and even Squidward Tentacles are perturbed by the scenario, though not knowing it was him. Even when being caught he shows no remorse for his actions claiming that it was free day while he gets pelted with peanuts.
    • In the beginning of the episode he was shown to be abusing the "free day" when he takes all the balloons, a lot of juice with a barrel, and even some light bulbs.
    • He absolutely knows that his actions are wrong, when he got nervous around the police officers. So he just uses this free day as an excuse to steal things, even though there were things that were actually free.
  • In "Gary Takes a Bath", he breaks into SpongeBob's house so that he can get the dollar bill that he was holding.
    • While SpongeBob did say that that anyone who bathes in his house next will get this dollar bill, breaking into Someone's house is still not a good thing to do.
  • In "Sailor Mouth", he takes a coin out of his mother's pocket after she faints.
  • In "Jellyfish Hunter", he catches wind of SpongeBob's jellyfishing habit and got him to jellyfish for him, but in truth, he was using SpongeBob to lure jellyfish to him so he could grind them into jam, severely harming and killing the jellyfish and then putting their dead bodies in a bin.
    • This was one of his nastiest episodes, where he absolutely abused SpongeBob, screams at him, only gave him a five minute break and forces him to catch the jellyfish in his free time.
  • In "The Fry Cook Games", both he and Plankton pitted SpongeBob and Patrick against each other and made them hate each other just to win the games.
  • In "Nasty Patty", he and SpongeBob (who he forced to aid him otherwise he would be fired) tried to poison the health inspector with a disgusting patty due to thinking that he was an imposter. He then convinces SpongeBob to bury the health inspector and lie to the police about where he is, as opposed to simply reporting the incident to them. He even put the blame on SpongeBob twice when they thought that they killed him and when the police were growing suspicious of their actions.
  • In "One Krabs Trash", he tricked a man into buying an umbrella full of holes for $5 and then tricks Patrick into buying his own plunger for $5, however Patrick ended up giving him $7 instead which makes it even more unfair. He also tricked SpongeBob into buying a novelty soda drink hat for $10, even taking $4.32 out of SpongeBob's paycheck when he didn't have enough money to buy the hat.
    • After being offered $1000000 for the hat, he tries to get it back from SpongeBob by telling him that it makes him look like a girl, then when that doesn't work he tries to convince SpongeBob to buy a bag full of hats in exchange for the soda drink hat, however when that doesn't work either he tries to scare SpongeBob into giving the hat back by using a paper ghost.
    • When SpongeBob returned the hat to Smitty Werbenjägermanjenson, Krabs went to the cemetery and defiled Smitty's grave to get the hat back, and he even tells Smitty to rest in pieces. Additionally, he also destroys Smitty and his skeleton army when they try to get the hat back from him.
    • He also talked about Squidward contemptuously after he visited the grave of his hopes and dreams.
  • In "Can You Spare a Dime?", he accused Squidward, without any concrete evidence (other than that he was the only one who worked next to the cashier all day), of stealing his first dime, which results in him quitting his job, becoming homeless, and then staying at SpongeBob's house for several months, and taking advantage of his hospitality. Additionally, when confronted by SpongeBob, he refused to rehire Squidward (even after SpongeBob offered to give him all of the pocket change he had at the moment) until SpongeBob chokes and shakes him out of anger, causing the dime to fall out of Mr. Krabs' pocket, revealing that he had it the whole time. However, he refused to accept the fact that he simply misplaced the dime and instead accused Squidward of putting the dime in his pants.
    • In the same episode he refused to donate to the children's fund stating "What have children ever done for me?".
  • In "Wet Painters", he forces SpongeBob and Patrick to paint the inside of his house and threatens to cut their butts off and hang them over the fireplace if they get paint on anything.
    • In the end, it's revealed that he did this so he could purposely waste their time and scare them because he likes to mess with them, showing the little to no respect he has for the two.
  • In "Clams", he forces SpongeBob and Squidward to find his millionth dollar that he lost, and also refused to let them eat as he throws their food supply into the ocean.
    • He later tries to use SpongeBob and Squidward as bait for a clam who had his millionth dollar, while insanely laughing.
  • In "Mid-Life Crustacean", he becomes angry at SpongeBob and Patrick so much that he goes on a rampage at Bunny Buns for bringing him there and insulted them by calling them "lame", "nerds", "geeks", "creeps", and "babies". Not only that but during his breakdown, lashes out at children in a fit of rage, swinging them around and throwing them off his hat, showing no regard for their safety and well-being who could’ve been injured including SpongeBob and Patrick since they were barely doing nothing but having fun with Krabs. Later, he as well as both SpongeBob and Patrick, break into someone's house to steal their underwear. What makes this worse is that the person who owned the house was actually Mr. Krabs' mother, although to be fair, he didn't actually know this at first.
  • One of his most infamous roles is in "Born Again Krabs", where he refused to throw away a moldy Krabby Patty because it was worth 5.2 cents and told SpongeBob that he couldn't cook any more Krabby Patties until it was sold. He tried to sell it but failed, then he went and ate it, and almost died.
    • What is worse is that the Patty was shown to be sentient, and he even falsely befriended it in order to eat it (knowing full well the Patty was alive). After taking a bite out of the Patty, Krabs tells SpongeBob that he was not finished eating it, showing that he had no remorse for his actions.
    • In the same episode, he grabbed a bystander by the arm for picking up a penny and threatened to rip it off and sold SpongeBob to the Flying Dutchman just for 62 cents, something that even Squidward of all people found repulsive, though he does repent for the latter. Even so, this is still considered the worst thing he's ever done. Worse yet, he did this immediately after SpongeBob stood up for him when the Flying Dutchman was ready to take him to Davy Jones' locker for his greediness, proving how much of an ungrateful egotist he is.
  • In "Krabby Land", in order to attract children to the Krusty Krab and scam them, he creates a "theme park" out of junk that could injure them.
    • When he saw how unsafe this park is, he just let the children sign disclaimers, saying these are coloring books.
    • He makes SpongeBob stall the children for him while he counts the money. This results in SpongeBob having to horribly injure himself multiple times just to keep the children entertained.
    • When SpongeBob tells Mr. Krabs that he can't keep stalling the children, not only does Mr. Krabs not care that his employee is horribly injured, but he also hypocritically states that he's always thinking about himself.
    • When SpongeBob tells Krabs that the children are using his limbs as boomerangs Mr. Krabs gets worried that they'll break his windows, showing that he cares more about having to spend money than he does about his employee's health and safety.
    • Mr. Krabs also admitted that he doesn't care about the children, just their parents' money.
  • In "The Sponge Who Could Fly", he takes advantage of SpongeBob and his flying pants by having him clean his garage.
  • In The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie, he cons out Mrs. Puff into paying nine dollars for the grand opening press conference for The Krusty Krab 2, and makes Sandy pay an extra dollar for being a land creature, making it a rip-off.
    • He gives the manager's job to Squidward instead of SpongeBob, despite SpongeBob being his most loyal employee and a great and loyal fry cook since day one, because he thinks SpongeBob is a child and claims that Squidward is more mature than him, even though SpongeBob was more energetic and engaged and didn't actively trash talk the business to customers, this leads to SpongeBob developing depression.
    • When he assume that King Neptune is coming to Krusty Krab 2 to eat, he changes the price of a Krabby Patty with cheese from $1 to $101 in an attempt to get more money out of him.
    • When Neptune tries to burn Mr. Krabs for supposedly selling his crown to the forbidden Shell City, Krabs begs to him for his innocence and states he is not a crook, which is completely hypocritical since Mr. Krabs is a crook himself serval times in the series.
    • When Patrick argues with Neptune of how many days SpongeBob can make it back with his crown, he and SpongeBob brutally beat up Patrick just to shut him up with Mr. Krabs choking him, while this may be understandable as Patrick is giving SpongeBob less time on his quest to retrieve Neptune's crown, it is still wrong to assault and choke someone.
  • In "Krabs vs. Plankton", it's revealed that he doesn't have a wet floor sign at the Krusty Krab, which is an irresponsible action that risks the possibility of someone getting injured. When asked about this at court, he tries to justify this by saying he has to make tough business decisions, and that a wet floor sign seemed superfluous when in reality it was clearly just because of his greedy nature.
    • Additionally, Squidward also states that Mr. Krabs only let him have one day off in three years. Plankton also fake injured himself by going on the wet floor on purpose and Mr. Krabs saw through the lie.
  • In "Skill Crane", when Squidward spends all of his money trying to win a toy from the new skill crane that Mr. Krabs installed, he decides to convert his paycheck into quarters so that he would spend all of them on the machine. Additionally, he also takes the deed to Squidward's house when he finds it among all of the quarters that he takes out of the machine.
  • In "Selling Out", he crushed a bird to death with a book.
  • In "Wishing You Well", he creates the Eugene Krabs Memorial Wishing Well as a scheme to make money and forces SpongeBob to stay down the well for hours to collect the coins tossed inside the well by other people, then when he comes back to collect the coins he forces SpongeBob, and also Patrick who accidentally fell down the well, to stay down there until daytime just in case more people toss coins down the well. Additionally, he also refused to believe that magic was actually real despite the fact that Sandy, Mrs. Puff, and Plankton's wishes had all come true.
  • In "New Leaf", he destroyed all of the items in Plankton's gift shop due to thinking that Plankton was lying about changing his ways (this was actually true but it wasn't revealed to be the case until the end of the episode). After this he pretends to befriend Plankton (pretending to think Plankton has changed even in the Krusty Krab with SpongeBob and Squidward) and seemingly gives him the secret formula, only for it to then be revealed that it was actually a fake and that he knew about Plankton's charade the entire time. He also taunts Plankton while revealing this and stated he did a much bigger charade.
    • Even if this was genuine, he still sometimes got wind of him while his rival doing nothing as evident in later episodes (like Plankton Paranoia and Plankton Retires).
  • In "Bummer Vacation", he forced SpongeBob to stay away from the Krusty Krab just so that he can save 5 cents, and he even took SpongeBob to a forest and left him there when he kept trying to come back.
    • Additionally, SpongeBob also states that the 5 cents that Mr. Krabs saved is actually more than what he makes in a year.
  • In "Krabs à la Mode", he is very strict about keeping the thermostat at 62° to save money. Even after it's made incredibly obvious that it was changed to below zero due to there being icicles on the ceiling and the floor being ice, he still refuses to let anyone touch the thermostat because there was a piece of paper taped over the thermostat that says "62".
    • Additionally, after Plankton reveals that he was the one that froze the Krusty Krab, Krabs punishes him by freezing him and then drinking him out of a glass of lemonade after casually asking if he had any more good ideas for him to profit off of.
  • In "The Krusty Sponge", he exploited SpongeBob's popularity while overworking him.
    • He even poisoned the Krusty Krab customers with the Spongy Patties which got him in court, however, after realizing that the judge is a SpongeBob fan, he gets away scot-free by letting the judge abuse Squidward for a free ride.
  • In "Le Big Switch", he sells Squidward when he goes bankrupt.
  • In "Atlantis SquarePantis", he opens up an illegal stand by the Bikini Bottom Museum and charges an old lady $3 to enter even though it was Free Tuesday.
    • Later in the episode, he threatens Squidward because the streets in Atlantis weren't actually paved with gold, and he also steps on his neck so that he can steal a lightbulb from a streetlight because Squidward told him earlier that they were made of diamonds.
  • In "The Two Faces of Squidward", when Squidward was being chased and harassed by the Bikini Bottom citizens due to his handsomeness, Mr. Krabs tries to take advantage of the situation by letting the citizens pay to touch Squidward. Additionally, When the citizens leave because of Squidward no longer being handsome, Krabs tries to get them to come back by repeatedly slamming Squidward in the face with a door so that he would become handsome again.
  • In "Penny Foolish", when he thinks that he saw SpongeBob pick up a penny he tried various plans to take it from him, even to the point of breaking into SpongeBob's house so that he can search for the penny with a metal detector.
    • Even after SpongeBob tells him the truth Mr. Krabs still believed that he had a penny and continued to search for it by digging holes in SpongeBob's yard.
  • In "No Nose Knows", he along with SpongeBob, Squidward and Sandy made a plan to kill Patrick's sentient nose by making it smell a giant trash ball, and when the nose was dying a horrible and painful death, everyone was smiling.
  • In "Patty Caper", he tried to frame SpongeBob for stealing the Krabby Patty formula just to avoid paying $1.99 (which would have not worked out for him in the long run, as SpongeBob is the only person who knows how to make them and it also counts as lying). He then faces his karma when the cops discover this, and the judge forces him to give away free Krabby Patties while watching for a whole day revealing that Mr. Krabs orchestrated the whole plan to get SpongeBob to investigate who stole it and to keep track of the ingredient just into do so.
  • In "Plankton's Regular", he tries to take away Plankton's only customer even though he already gets far more customers than Plankton does, and he also tricks the customer into going to the Krusty Krab and locks the doors to force the customer to eat the chum that he and SpongeBob made.
    • When the customer still decides to keep going to the Chum Bucket, Mr. Krabs and SpongeBob try to steal the recipe that Plankton uses for his chum.
    • When Plankton starts crying after finding out that the customer was only eating Plankton's chum because he was paid by Karen, Mr. Krabs laughs at his misery.
  • In "The Krabby Kronicle", he makes SpongeBob write libelous articles about others just to advertise the Krusty Krab, harming their reputations.
    • After all of his money is taken away by the angry mob when SpongeBob exposed the truth, Krabs printed counterfeit money.
  • In "The Slumber Party", he was shown being cheap to his daughter by giving her crackers with ketchup instead of pizza, and he also makes up a bunch of ridiculous rules due to him thinking that Pearl and her friends will destroy his house. While it is understandable that he wouldn't want his house destroyed, he was still in the wrong for assuming the worst from Pearl and her friends.
    • Later in the same episode, he vandalizes SpongeBob's house and forces him to spy on Pearl and her friends, which eventually results in SpongeBob destroying the house and ruining the slumber party. This also shows that he's a hypocrite, as he has SpongeBob infiltrate the party even though one of the rules that he gave Pearl was "no boys allowed", and he also did this specifically to stop Pearl and her friends from destroying his house, yet he himself also destroys SpongeBob's house.
    • Additionally, when SpongeBob is turned into a pizza by Pearl and her friends and is then delivered to Mr. Krabs house, he eats a couple slices of SpongeBob.
  • In "Krusty Krushers", he tricked an oblivious SpongeBob and Patrick into fighting two huge and incredibly strong wrestlers, so that they could win a cash prize for him, not caring about what happened to the two.
  • In "No Hat For Pat", he uses Patrick as an attraction for the Krusty Krab by having him fall on his face, not caring that Patrick got hurt (even receiving a nosebleed and brain damage) in the process.
    • He also fires Patrick for failing to do a trick that could've killed him.
  • In "Truth or Square", it shown that he has a surveillance system that he uses to view a bunch of places in Bikini Bottom, including SpongeBob, Patrick, Squidward, and Sandy's houses. When Squidward asks him why he has cameras watching them, he lies by saying that it was to make sure they floss after every meal.
    • Earlier in the same episode, he adds an extra zero to everything on the menu in order to get more money.
  • In "Chum Caverns", he kicked a mother and their child out of his restaurant for not ordering a side of fries which is apparently mandatory, and he also has a customer handcuffed to a boat despite him stating that he's not hungry.
    • He invaded the Chum Caverns to take Plankton's customers, and when Plankton told him that what he was doing is unethical, Mr. Krabs calls all building rights under his restaurant without any legal action.
    • When everyone gets trapped underground he still makes his customers pay to eat and says that he should have thought of captive customers sooner. Additionally, he also forces Plankton to work the cash register because Squidward wasn't there.
  • In "Growth Spout", he tried to take Mrs Puff's peanut worms (albeit without realizing that they were worms at first), and also stole food from Patrick and Squidward's houses, and then he also tried to steal food from SpongeBob's house. While he was doing this so that he can feed Pearl without having to pay, that doesn't change the fact that what he was doing is illegal even after SpongeBob caught him
    • Additionally, when a police officer asks him why he has a sack, Mr. Krabs lies by stating that he was practicing to be Santa for the holidays to avoid consequences.
  • In "Greasy Buffoons", he and Plankton sold bowls of grease and lied to the customers of the Krusty Krab and Chum Bucket, telling them it was soup in order to compete with each other. They both ended up getting various customers sick.
  • In "Kracked Krabs", it's revealed that he once forced the customers to pay a dollar per footstep after leading them to a trap for free Krabby Patties.
    • Additionally, he and SpongeBob also steal an entire hotel room.
  • In "Squidward in Clarinetland", it is revealed that Mr. Krabs locked one of his crewmates in a locker as a prank and left them there to die. After giving Squidward the locker and seeing the crewmate's corpse in there, he showed no remorse or guilt for this action.
    • Additionally, he also sweet talked an old lady out of 20 bucks.
  • In "One Coarse Meal", his most infamous role, he discovers Plankton has a fear of whales and dresses up as his daughter Pearl to terrorize him for weeks to the point where Plankton tried to commit suicide by getting himself run over.
    • To make matters worse, when Krabs found out about Plankton's attempted suicide, he laughed and gloated about it and even willingly went on to continue terrorizing him, and while Plankton is almost as heinous as Krabs, this is nowhere near a mitigating factor on Krabs' part with even SpongeBob feeling bad for Plankton despite being foes most of the time and Plankton didn't deserve to die. What makes this even more repulsive is that Plankton and Krabs used to be best friends as kids.
  • In "The Play's the Thing", he makes money by letting the customers throw food and objects at his employees until they were severely injured. Afterwards, Mr. Krabs said he will do this again for two nights in a row.
  • In "The Cent of Money", after Gary swallows a fridge magnet, Mr. Krabs uses him to steal change from civilians, stealing around $2000.
    • He doesn't care that Gary is clearly in distress as well.
    • He also makes SpongeBob work just to get him to not figure out his plan of hurting Gary though SpongeBob eventually finds out and Mr. Krabs lies to him even though SpongeBob sees through that lie.
  • In "The Curse of the Hex", he refused to let Madame Hagfish have a Krabby Patty and takes away the Krabby Patties that SpongeBob was going to give her, throws them in the garbage, and even tells SpongeBob that they would be coming out of his paycheck.
  • In "Sponge-Cano!", he tried to take SpongeBob and Squidward's life essences (which is just a different way of saying that he was going to kill them).
  • In "Accidents Will Happen", it's revealed that he stole a video surveillance system from an airport.
  • In "The Other Patty", he rigged all Krabby Patties to self-destruct if they get 10 feet away from the Krusty Krab, which results in a customer exploding to death because he was still digesting his patties while leaving the restaurant.
    • When the Flabby Patty shack steals all of his customers, he tries to steal the Flabby Patty secret recipe to get them back, eventually even teaming up with Plankton to do so.
    • After he and Plankton learn that the Flabby Patty Shack was set up by SpongeBob to get them to work together, they decide to chase after him so that they can beat him up, showing that they aren't grateful for him trying to restore their friendship.
  • In "Frozen Face-Off", he abandoned SpongeBob, Patrick, Squidward, Sandy, and Gary so that he can finish the race and keep all of the prize money for himself.
  • In "Barnacle Face", it's revealed that he uses grease from leftover Krabby Patties to make the soap that he and Pearl use which results in Pearl getting a bunch of barnacles on her face. Additionally, he also refused to help Pearl get rid of her barnacles and has SpongeBob do it instead.
  • In "The Krabby Patty That Ate Bikini Bottom", he steals Sandy's growth serum so that he can test it on a Krabby Patty and increase his profits. This results in a monstrous Krabby Patty creature wreaking havoc in Bikini Bottom.
    • He also tried to prevent SpongeBob and Squidward from leaving the Krusty Krab, even as it's being destroyed and consumed by the monstrous Krabby Patty.
  • In "InSPONGEiac", he ridiculously berates SpongeBob for putting "too much mustard" on a Krabby Patty while thinking he hasn't gotten any sleep, causing him to have insomnia to the point where he goes through a series of hallucinations, something that Krabs shows no remorse for.
    • Even worse, when SpongeBob breaks down crying tears of mustard, Krabs takes advantage of this and profits off of SpongeBob's sorrow.
  • In "Squid Baby", he forces SpongeBob to put Squidward to work not caring about him having Head-Go-Boom-Boom-Itis thus risking his life.
  • In "Eek, an Urchin!", he would brutally destroy Plankton's death robot by continually smashing it with its own hammer until it was nothing but a lunch box. While the robot did accidentally rip Mr. Krabs' shell off and attempted to destroy his cash register when the urchin went inside of it, the robot did regret ripping his shell, as it tried putting it back on Krabs (as well as being generous enough to give him their mallet), making Mr. Krabs' brutal destruction of the robot unnecessarily cruel.
    • What is worse is that Krabs would later hypocritically destroy his own cash register himself, despite him getting mad at Plankton's death robot for attempting to do the same.
  • One of Mr. Krabs' most notorious moments occurs in the episode "SpongeBob, You're Fired!", where he fires SpongeBob, his most skilled and valuable fry cook, to save a mere nickel. This ill-fated decision sends the Krusty Krab into a downward spiral, as Mr. Krabs' own subpar cooking skills are unable to fill the void left by SpongeBob's departure.
    • Additionally, he also admitted that he considered having SpongeBob work for free, and only decided not to go through with it because he would “lose his venders license” and not because it was wrong to have employees work for free.
  • In The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water, he and the Krusty Krab's numerous customers constantly tease Plankton, who is actually his robotic decoy, believing that he has suffered yet another failure in stealing the Krabby Patty's secret formula.
    • He accuses Plankton of stealing the secret formula despite the fact that Plankton wasn't actually responsible for it this time. Even after SpongeBob tried to defend Plankton by saying that he was innocent, Krabs still continued to accuse Plankton for it thinking SpongeBob was helping Plankton do so and that SpongeBob was also lying.
    • He tapes Plankton down and tells a knock-knock joke to get SpongeBob to torture Plankton by laughing so that he can force Plankton tell him where the secret formula is.
    • After SpongeBob uses a bubble to save Plankton from Mr. Krabs and the other Bikini Bottomites, Krabs believes that SpongeBob was a double agent working for Plankton the whole time and considers him to now be an enemy.
    • He starts a riot and chases SpongeBob and Plankton all over Bikini Bottom, still believing that they have the formula. Additionally, he also has Karen imprisoned and searches through her files for the formula.
    • He and the other Bikini Bottomites try to kill SpongeBob as a sacrifice for the "sandwich gods", believing that doing so would bring Krabby Patties back to Bikini Bottom, and they only stop after SpongeBob and Mr. Krabs smell Krabby Patties coming from the surface.
    • After Burger-Beard has banish him, SpongeBob, Patrick, Sandy and Squidward to pelican island, Mr. Krabs try to feed Squidward to the pelicans to save his own skin.
    • During the credits for the movie he takes Patrick's wallet and causes his pants to fall down, and then he takes money out of the wallet, throws it behind himself, and ends up hitting Mrs. Puff with it which causes her to puff up.
  • In "Lame and Fortune", when Squidward gets a bunch of money as a award for being the most miserable cashier in Bikini Bottom, Mr. Krabs immediately takes away the money stating "Me cash register, me money".
  • In "Patrick's Coupon", he captures Patrick with a crane and then tries to scam him out of his coupon which Squidward calls him out for.
  • In "Out of the Picture", after being swayed by the art appraiser's influence, he tried to murder Squidward with a hammer, destroyed Squidward's paintings with a chainsaw, and destroyed his own restaurant to appease the appraiser.
  • In "Spin the Bottle", after his wish of receiving $1000 is granted by the genie (actually Plankton in disguise), he selfishly tries to take possession of the bottle for his own purposes before he realized it was Plankton and not a real genie fooling all the characters in the process.
  • In "Larry the Floor Manager", he shoved a Krabby Patty in Bubble Bass's mouth, briefly got angry at SpongeBob for accidently spilling ketchup, and even tried to attack Squidward just because he dropped a napkin.
  • In "There's a Sponge in My Soup", he commits serious health code violations by taking rotten food from trash cans and using it to make soup in which he inadvertently attracts hippies to go into the soup.
  • In "Pat the Horse", he forces Patrick to give a bunch of kids horse rides, and does the same thing to Squidward. Additionally, he also brags to SpongeBob that his horse (Squidward) is better than Patrick and challenges him to a race to see who gets to deliver food to a customer in Black Devil Bay first. He also kept trying to win the race by cheating, and he even impersonates a police officer at one point to get SpongeBob and Patrick to pull over just so he wins apparently with the cops catching him in the process.
  • In "High Sea Diving", he sells Patrick to Bubble Bass when he mistakes him for a cardboard cutout. What makes this worse is that Mr. Krabs knew that it was the real Patrick but he still sold him to Bubble Bass anyway.
  • In "Bottle Burglars", he abuses SpongeBob and Squidward by stuffing them into the safe for the secret formula and using them as his new security system
  • In "Shopping List", he gave SpongeBob a phony shopping list and sent him and Sandy on a dangerous mission to retrieve a bunch of fake Krabby Patty ingredients to keep Plankton distracted (figuring Plankton would listen in, therefore causing him to not know the real ingredients so he can’t steal the formula) while Mr. Krabs goes to the Barg'N-Mart to buy the real ingredients. Sandy got mad when she found out it was fake and beat up Mr. Krabs as a result of what he did.
  • In "ChefBob", he shows no concern for SpongeBob's stage fright and threats to fire him if he doesn't perform.
  • In "Bubbletown", when SpongeBob called him and told him that he was stuck in the Bubbletown prison, Krabs went to the prison and caused a jailbreak that ended up releasing a bunch of bubble prisoners just so that he can get SpongeBob back to work.
    • When a prison guard caught him in the act of breaking SpongeBob out of jail, he decided to attack the guard by spinning and not only does he pop the guard, but he also ends up popping all of Bubbletown, including its citizens which can be considered genocide due to the fact they are alive, and he even tries to downplay his actions by claiming that they were just bubbles.
    • What makes this even worse is that the town had children in it which means that Mr. Krabs killed all of them as well.
  • In "The Krusty Slammer", he turns the Krusty Krab into a prison so that he can make money, and he also tortures Plankton (who was locked up for vandalism) multiple times throughout the episode.
    • After realizing that running a prison costs a lot, he takes the prisoners food and releases them before their prison time is up which causes Mr. Krabs to go to the Chum Bucket as punishment due to it being illegal specifically after SpongeBob put them back in.
  • In "The Krusty Bucket", after Plankrab splits in two, he and Plankton trick both of the Plankrabs into giving each other a handshake which resulted in them melting away and dying. While this is fairly justified given that Plankrab took over their restaurants, Krabs and Plankton were also shown laughing over their deaths.
  • In "SpongeBob's Big Birthday Blowout", he tricks people into consenting to a pat down so that he can steal their money as payment for entering the Krusty Krab section of the party.
  • In "Squidward's Sick Daze", he sends SpongeBob over to Squidward's house to torment him for faking a sickness to avoid going to work while knowing how much SpongeBob gets on his nerves, pretending to believe his ruse and lying to SpongeBob that Squidward is actually sick. While Squidward faking a sickness was wrong, including lying to SpongeBob and making him fall for it, it's worth noting that the whole reason he did it was because of the amount of stress Krabs and SpongeBob give him at work.
  • In "Kwarantined Krab", it's revealed that during his navy days, they would isolate the "Sicko" and lock them up in the freezer so everyone else can enjoy their good health, however, it's heavily implied that nobody let out the people Mr. Krabs quarantined in the freezer, meaning that they likely froze to death.
    • Additionally in the same episode, he locks SpongeBob, Patrick, Squidward, Mrs. Puff, and Pearl in the freezer to freeze to death after thinking that they had the Clam Flu even though eventually they all got sick with different illnesses.
    • He also mentions that he bribes the health inspector yearly.
  • In The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run, he throws Otto to Plankton's dumpster so he can avoid paying $5 for a fee for recycling electronics for his dumpster, just to get rid of her for trying to gaining control of his office, and despite the fact that Sandy made Otto as an assistant for him. Also when Sandy found out what happens to Otto from a Bikini Bottom news report, Mr. Krabs lied that Otto took an automated vacation, so he won’t get in trouble with her when in reality Plankton started to use Otto for his nefarious plans after Mr. Krabs threw him away.
    • He decided to sell an uneaten Krabby Patty on their legacy artisanal vintage throwback menu, instead of disposing it, which is unsanitary.
    • When he and the other main characters are surrounded by Poseidon, he, out of fear, told him that it was only Sandy, Squidward and Plankton’s idea to free SpongeBob and Patrick, so he can save his own skin.
  • In Saving Bikini Bottom: The Sandy Cheeks Movie, he was initially skeptical of going out of the Krusty Krab to investigate when the Bikini Bottom was taken to B.O.O.T.S lab, and even try to force Squidward to do it, showing that he is a coward.
  • In Plankton: The Movie, he teaches SpongeBob to invade people's privacies.

Other Media[]

  • In the video game SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom, he forces SpongeBob to trade him a bunch of Shiny Objects in exchange for Golden Spatulas despite knowing that the Golden Spatulas are needed for Bikini Bottom to be saved.
    • After SpongeBob reluctantly decides to not give Mr. Krabs a Golden Spatula because he needs it in order to save Bikini Bottom, Krabs decides to dock 30 seconds from SpongeBob's break time which means that he gets a -20 second break.
    • When SpongeBob talks to him after purchasing all of his Golden Spatulas he says "The only good robot is the one that's givin' me them Shiny Objects", since robot is another word for slave this could be implying that he considers SpongeBob to be his slave.
  • In the short, "The Endless Summer", he uses a boat to release carbon dioxide into the air so that he can take advantage of Global Warming and get people to swim in his new pool and make money. Additionally, after SpongeBob uses more boats to release more carbon dioxide in the air and cause more global warming, the temperature got so hot that it caused Bikini Bottom to become uninhabitable.
  • In the video game SpongeBob SquarePants The Cosmic Shake, after being transported to the Wild West Jellyfish fields he became an outlaw known as the Red Handed Bandit and stole all of the cactus juice from Manta Fe. To make things even worse, he also tricks SpongeBob and Patrick into collecting more cactus juice for him so that he can steal all of it.

What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]

  • He is On & Off with plenty of heroic roles and genuinely nice deeds:
    • He is very protective of the Krabby Patty secret formula, and often stops Plankton from stealing it.
    • He and the other main characters became superheroes and saved Bikini Bottom from Burger-Beard in Sponge Out of Water.
    • He and the other main characters saved SpongeBob, Patrick and Gary from King Poseidon in Sponge on the Run.
    • He helps Sandy, her family, SpongeBob, Patrick and Squidward return Bikini Bottom back to the ocean in Saving Bikini Bottom: The Sandy Cheeks Movie.
    • He saved The Krusty Krab from Carl in "Selling Out".
    • He helped SpongeBob regain his confidence in "Pickles" after he messes up the Krusty Krab recipe.
    • He consoled SpongeBob in "My Pretty Seahorse" after he had to let go of Mystery the Seahorse.
    • He returned some jewels that SpongeBob had stolen back to a mansion in "Krusty Katering".
    • In the end of The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie, he gives the job of manager to SpongeBob after he and Patrick managed to get back with the crown in time to save him from Neptune’s wrath and even apologizing for doubting him.
    • Additionally, he wasn't that bad in Season 1, as that is the season that showed him caring for SpongeBob the most out of any season of the series, and he wasn't as greedy as he normally is. Many of his appearances in this season emphasized his father figure role towards SpongeBob.
  • He is way too comedic since most of his greed, furious tendencies, certain moments, slapstick, and use of exaggeration, detract from his villainy because they are mostly played for laughs or aren't taken seriously. This results in him being taken rarely seriously in the show, to the point that he cannot be Near Pure Evil.
  • He has shown remorse for some of his behavior, such as in "Born Again Krabs", where he sells SpongeBob's soul for 62¢, or in "Whatever Happened to SpongeBob?", where he and the other main characters made SpongeBob run away from home.
  • He genuinely cares about his family members.
    • At the end of "Squeaky Boots", he made up for ruining Pearl's birthday party by buying her the slippers she wanted and going on a week-long vacation with her.
    • In "Tutor Sauce", he gave Pearl money without complaining or being hesitant about it while she broke through wall of The Krusty Krab's kitchen twice in a row. He also shows concern about her well-being and calls her "his angel".
    • In "Growth Spout", the reason why he was stealing food from others in the first place was to feed Pearl (but then again, she tried to eat his dollar first).
    • In "Grandmum's the Word", he reveals the tattoo on his chest, which has his grandmother on it and is willing to help Plankton impress his grandmother despite the fact Krabs and Plankton hate each other.
    • He genuinely cares for his grandfather, Redbeard, whom he is deeply afraid to leave disappointed, and when the latter robbed him, he quickly ignored all of the stolen money.
  • He also has standards:
    • In "Selling Out", he was angry at Carl for mistreating Squidward and turning Krabby Patties into processed foods made of gray liquids.
    • In "Little Yellow Book", he is the only one who doesn't laugh when Squidward reads SpongeBob's diary to humiliate him and he even orders Squidward to apologize to SpongeBob.
    • In "Yours, Mine and Mine", when he sees SpongeBob and Patrick fighting over a toy, he said that isn't worth losing their friendship for. So he offers each of them another toy.
    • In "Friendiversary", he is horrified when he finds out that Squidward completely erased SpongeBob's memory, including the combination to the secret formula safe.
    • in Sponge on the Run, he was genuinely disgusted at Plankton when he revealed how he got rid of SpongeBob by kidnapping Gary and giving him to Poseidon in order to get SpongeBob killed as Krabs said it was plain monstrous.
    • He also does not approve of false lovers.
      • In "Married to Money", he fell in love with a cash-shaped robot named Cashina, and after realizing that Cashina was really Plankton, he couldn't bring himself to crush Plankton like he usually does, because Plankton was playing with his emotions.
      • In "The Flower Plot", he gets angry at Plankton for playing with Squidward's heart. Squidward had fallen in love with a woman named Petunia, who worked at a flower shop inside the Chum Bucket. But it turns out that Petunia was none other than Plankton and he gets angry at Plankton once finding that out.
  • He shows genuine care for SpongeBob at times, acts as his father figure (especially in Season 1), misses SpongeBob when he's taken away from the restaurant and even feels genuine remorse when he is cruel to him to some extent.
    • At least in some ways he cares for Squidward, having him as the godfather of his daughter Pearl and he almost never fires him, even when Squidward isn't a good worker at all. He also promised to reward Squidward for helping Pearl by allowing him to have one shift per week without SpongeBob.
  • He is genuinely in love with Mrs. Puff, as they have been dating for sixteen years as revealed in "Whirly Brains", and he is always trying to impress her.
  • It was shown that he cares for Old Man Jenkins and considers him family and was upset when his Plab Patty knocked him out. He is also shown crying when he believed Jenkins betrayed him by joining Plankton.
  • He is apparently one of the few people that is helping Bikini Bottom in terms of food. In Sponge Out of Water, it is seen that, without the Krabby Patties, Bikini Bottom suffered from famine, and its people became crazy while trying to find anything to eat. He is also aware of this, saying that the Krabby Patty is what unifies everyone in Bikini Bottom.

Trivia[]

  • Mr. Krabs, along with his employee SpongeBob SquarePants, Patrick Star, and his rival Plankton, are the only four characters in the SpongeBob SquarePants canon to be Inconsistently Heinous as of now.
    • Additionally, he and Plankton are the only two characters in the series that are both Heroic Benchmark and Inconsistently Heinous at the same time.
    • He is also one of two versions of Mr. Krabs to be Inconsistently Heinous, along with his Counterpart from Mr. Krabs Unquenchable Blood Lust.
    • His THE SECRET FORMULA counterpart is not Inconsistently Heinous, and is much worse, solidifying his Pure Evil status.
  • The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie was originally going to end the show before Nickelodeon requested more SpongeBob SquarePants episodes due to the success of the first 3 seasons, alongside the one the film turned out to be. Had the show ended after the film as originally planned, he would be fully redeemed which would been one of the reasons why he is Inconsistent.
