The world as it exists now is out of balance. One cannot run a world-or a business-in this manner. Mammals and marine creatures have traded places. And not for the better. As CEO, I must be the one to restore balance to nature. For now... I will let the Fuzzy Ooze spread. And watch the Golden Eggs pile up...
~ Mr. Grizz explaining his plan to remake Earth.
To be a visionary in business, and in life, one must be prepared to make tough decisions. I must leverage the suffering of my employees into a brighter, fuzzier future for all!
~ Mr. Grizz after dehydrating Cap'n Cuttlefish.

Ursine Anomaly #03, better known as Mr. Grizz, is one of the two overarching antagonists (alongside Commander Tartar) of the Splatoon franchise. He is an anthropomorphic grizzly bear who plots to restore mammals to Earth by firing a rocket of Fuzzy Ooze at it. He funded this venture by becoming the CEO of Grizzco, sending Inklings and Octolings alike to collect power eggs from the Salmonids, all while hiding behind an innocuous radio.

His Evil Ranking[]

What Makes Him Heinous?[]

  • He got many Inklings and Octolings to steal many of the Golden Eggs produced by Salmonids, including killing any Salmonids who try to stop them. Given we can see what appears to be the fetus of a Salmonid, and later heavily implied he killed them in order to make the Fuzzy Ooze, this means that not only it is mass theft, but also essentially mass infanticide.
  • He dehydrated Craig Cuttlefish, which makes him permanently stuck in his frail squid form and nearly kills him.
  • He used the Fuzzy Ooze to brainwash all of the Octarians that were formerly under Octavio's control.
  • He attempted to drown the entire planet in his Fuzzy Ooze he made from Golden Eggs, which would forcibly turn all Inklings and Octolings into giant fuzzballs, essentially causing a kind of genocide. In the bad ending where New Agent 3, Octavio, and the newly transformed Hugefry fail to defeat Mr. Grizz in time, we see that his actions are portrayed as an apocalypse-like situation, with many buildings being destroyed, and then later the world being turned into a giant fuzzball, as described by ORCA. On top of that, Mr. Grizz can be heard laughing in the background, showing that he takes clear enjoyment in this.

What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]

  • He's genuinely affable, showing that his cordial yet stern corporate boss persona seen in Salmon Run wasn't just an act and is genuinely what his personality's like.
  • He's an extremist, just doing what he does not out of xenophobic hatred towards the Inklings and Octolings like Tartar, but out of genuinely wanting mammals to progress forward and be brought back to Earth.
  • He's tragic as he was in hibernation for 12,000 years, only to find that all of his fellow mammals were gone extinct, causing him to plan for many years to bring back the mammals.
  • He accepts his defeat gracefully, claiming that times have changed and that "moving forward is the future", showing that even if he isn't redeemed, he is honorable.
    • This is most prevelant in his Japanese version.
  • His business centric personality is often played for laughs, as he requests that the Inklings do not call his act of covering the planet in Fuzzy Ooze "Hairmageddon" since "HR (Human Resources) doesn't like that."
    • Additionally, he tells the New Agent 3 that they will not be receiving "severance pay" right before his rocket explodes.
      • To add to the comedic tone, him denying New Agent 3 their severance pay is a localization joke.
  • Overall, he could arguably be considered an anti-villain.
