~ Mr. Chanax revealing himself to Gumball and Darwin |
Mr. Chanax is the main antagonist in the sitcom comedy series The Amazing World Of Gumball Season 3 episode "The Boss".
He's a cruel soul-collecting business man, who's the founder and boss of Chanax. Inc. Headquarters.
He was voiced by Dan Rusell.
His Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Him Heinous?[]
- Prior to the events of the episode, it was shown in a flashback of "The Future" how he was a bad boss to Barbara, stressing her so much to the point she had a burnout.
- This would make him directly responsible on how she is now, and could also be technically indirectly his fault that Barbara has the ability of predict the future.
- He could basically be described as a tyrant. He established a dictatorship that makes anyone working under him basically a puppet of his, working themselves until eternity.
- It's mentioned by Rocky that Chanax and his company pollute and cut down rainforests.
- When Rocky reads that the contract says he must give away his "hope and dreams" he states that "it's just paper" before ordering him to sign the contract.
- He tricked other people into signing the contract and after that he stole their souls. Making them unable to leave the building and go back to their normal life.
- It's also worth to remember that the employees are underpaid and cannot stop working. Meaning Chanax has enslaved countless of people for his own gains.
- One of his employees, particularly The Skeleton, has been working for forty-seven years straight, he missed his wedding, his kids growing up and even his retirement.
- After Rocky signs the contract and begins working for Chanax, he becomes a mindless zombie who follows all of Chanax's orders. It's even said by Gumball that he looks soulless.
- He tries to deceive Rocky into not stopping working and leaving the building by offering him a "raise" and he would continue to do the same until Gumball and Darwin get Rocky past the archive department.
- In the next room filled with a lot of paperwork, Darwin finds the skeleton of an employee while trying to help Rocky. Which means other employees have tried to reach Chanax but unfortunately died in the attempt.
- After being confronted by Gumball and Darwin he tortures Rocky by forcing him to dance and hit himself.
- He tries to kill Gumball and Darwin only to realize his powers don't work on them, and as a last ditch-effort to prevent them from destroying the contract he threatens them to drink Rocky's "spirit".
- Had he succeeded in killing them, not only would Gumball and Darwin be dead, but Rocky and the other employees would continue being his slaves for eternity. And Rocky's father, Mr. Robinson, would've died since he lost a lot of stuffing and needed a donation from Rocky as soon as possible.
- When the Goblin replaces him after his death, he mentions how Chanax has been working during 400 years. Which could possibly mean he has enslaved other people and force them to work till death, though this isn't confirmed.
What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]
- Just like most Gumball villains, he is played for laughs and not meant to be taken seriously. For starters his entire concept is representing "soul-sucking" or corrupt companies, making his entire character a joke. Additionally, he has some comedic moments such as Rocky calling him pure evil for inventing boy bands (not to mention when he changes his mind when hearing Chanax also invented cheese puffs), when he fails to control Gumball and Darwin with a dramatic sound effect playing in the background, when he threatens to drink Rocky's spirit when it's actually just a jar with old breath and his defeat of screaming while slowly transforming back to Paperball.
- Furthermore, he's not seen as a genuine threat by any of the characters since he's supposed to be a parody representing soul sucking companies as explained above. With both Gumball and Darwin themselves seeing Chanax as a nuisance more than anything rather than someone who's a serious threat for them, with Gumball himself saying Chanax is just like his contract, only paper.
