“ | I'm stronger, Lloyd. I always have been. And I've been inside your head. I know what you're afraid of. You could never do it alone, could you? Weak. You need others, but I, I need no one. | „ |
~ Morro's famous quote. |
“ | You can only save those who want to be saved... goodbye, Sensei. | „ |
~ Morro before sacrificing himself to give Wu the Realm Crystal so Wu can save Lloyd. |
“ | Happy Day of the Departed, Master. | „ |
~ Morro's last words after helping Wu and the ninja before voluntarily returning to the Departed Realm. |
Morro is the former Elemental Master of Wind and a major antagonist in LEGO Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu.
He appears as a cameo character in Season 4: Tournament of Elements, the main antagonist of Season 5: Possession, a supporting character in the TV special Day of the Departed, and a posthumous character for the rest of the series (specifically Season 7: The Hands of Time).
He was an orphan and the first student of Sensei Wu who became obsessed with becoming the legendary Green Ninja after the Golden Weapons denied him, eventually dying and being banished to the Cursed Realm as a ghost only to join forces with and become the right-hand of the eldritch entity called The Preeminent and return to Ninjago to continue his quest to prove he is the Green Ninja and find the tomb of the First Spinjitzu Master to obtain Realm Crystal and release the Preeminent to destroy life in all the realms and turn the realms into a cursed wasteland. He is the former archenemy of Sensei Wu and Lloyd, the Green Ninja.
He is voiced by Andrew Francis.
His Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Him Heinous?[]
- After being told that he could be the Green Ninja, he became arrogant and unstable, harshly beating up his fellow students.
- When the Golden Weapons denied Morro was the one destined to be the Green Ninja, he left Wu's monastery in anger and denial, vowing to find the tomb of the First Spinjitzu Master to prove he was worthy.
- It is implied that he committed multiple atrocities in his quest to find the tomb of the First Spinjitzu Master, which is why he was banished to the Cursed Realm after his death (since the Cursed Realm has been seen to be used only as a punishment for mass murderers and warmongers like Chen, Clouse, and the Anacondrai generals).
- He served the Preeminent as her right-hand man, willingly acting as the de-facto leader of the ghost army and assisting her in her conquest of all the 16 realms since she was trapped and unable to travel between realms.
- He took advantage of Garmadon sacrificing himself to open a portal to the Cursed Realm to banish Chen and his army to the Cursed realm to escape from the Cursed Realm himself,
- He infiltrated the Ninjago History Museum to steal the Allied Armor of Azure in order to summon his allies from the Cursed Realm and terrorized/possessed a night watchman to draw in Lloyd, the actual Green Ninja.
- He possessed Lloyd, after refusing Lloyd's attempt to talk things out, causing the ninja to lose their elemental powers.
- This action would leave Lloyd with lasting trauma that would still affect him many years later.
- He attacked the ninja, Nya and Sensei Wu at Wu's tea shop, single handedly defeating the ninja and forcing Wu to give up his staff to save Kai from him.
- He interrupted an pool ball game to place the staff on the table to decipher the message about the location of the tomb First Spinjitzu Master and used the Allied Armor to summon his ally Wrayth from the Cursed Realm to beat up and throw out all the bikers in the bar when they complained about Morro interrupting their game.
- He broke into the Library of Domu to steal the scroll of Airjitzu and went to Stiix to hunt down Ronin after interrogating the guards to learn Ronin stole the scroll.
- He summoned the Soul Archer from the Cursed Realm to order him to help him take down Ronin and successfully stole the scroll of Airjitzu from Ronin, learning the power of Airjitzu and using it to escape but not before mocking the ninja about their loss.
- He summoned more ghosts and had them infiltrate Nya's Samurai X cave to possess mechs and try to kill Nya and Ronin. Although he orders a retreat, this was only because Nya summoned rain (water is lethal to ghosts in this series) and like he himself stated they had what they came for, the mech.
- He traveled to the Cloud Kingdom, corrupting Fenwick into letting him get the Sword of Sanctuary in exchange for Fenwick's life being spared from the Preeminent's wrath (not only was this deal pragmatic but considering how Morro betrayed his deal with Ronin, it is certain Morro wouldn't have honored the deal) before escaping from the Cloud Kingdom and fighting Kai, mockingly telling him how he would fight an unarmed Kai when Kai pointed out how unfair that was.
- He had Bansha contact Ronin and ordered Ronin to pay up his debt to prevent his soul from being cursed by getting the Sword of Sanctuary back from the ninja but betrays the deal once Ronin fulfills it and he discovers the location of the tomb by combining the sword and scroll of Airjitzu together, instead capturing Ronin to use as bait to trick the ninja.
- He possessed Ronin to trick the ninja into going on a false trail for the “tomb” in the Caves of the Despair to die. His possession is also shown to be pretty traumatic for Ronin who is lying on the ground recoiling and shaking in fear while Morro mocks and abandons him as Ronin was no longer of any use.
- He attacked the ninja in the tomb of the First Spinjitzu Master and threatened to kill Lloyd unless the ninja handed the Realm Crystal over and pushed Lloyd into the river to drown when Lloyd tried to break free.
- He successfully stole the Realm Crystal and used it to summon his forces to take over the village Stiix and prepare for the Preeminent to arrive once she was strong enough.
- He refused an offer of redemption from Sensei Wu and instead imprisoned him and Misako.
- He captured “Lloyd” and tried to force him to admit that he was better than him and defeated Nya once he learned it was her in disguise and fought the real Lloyd, taunting Lloyd for needing others and bragging that he needed no one.
- He faked remorse and took advantage of Lloyd's longing for his father to make Lloyd hesitate in destroying the Realm Crystal so the Preeminent could reach through the portal and grab Lloyd in to banish him to the Cursed Realm and the Preeminent could successfully break through the dimensional barrier and arrive in Ninjago.
- He defeated Ronin and fought Lloyd once he returned from the Preeminent/Cursed Realm, and ordered the ghosts to protect the Preeminent when the ninja tried to take out the stilts of the village to drown her.
- He literally fought Lloyd across the realms using the Realm Crystal before defeating and stranding him (although Lloyd let himself be defeated because he knew through the Sword of Sanctuary that it was Nya's destiny to defeat him) while he went back to Ninjago to march to destroy the realms on the Preeminent.
- Due to his actions of releasing the Preeminent to destroy all life in the realms, not only Nya was forced to kill her and the ghosts (including himself) along with all the residents within her including a redeemed Garmadon, but this caused the destruction of the realm Djinjago and all its residents due to the disruption of the balance between realities with the sole survivor Nadakhan swearing vengeance upon the ninja, making Morro actually posthumously succeed in one aspect and making him largely responsible for the events of Season 6.
What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]
- He has a tragic backstory which is played for sympathy. He was once a young orphan with nothing and was forced to steal food from garbage cans before he was adopted by Sensei Wu who trained him and made him believe he could be the legendary Green Ninja. This made Morro arrogant and become determined to prove he was special and worthy of being the Green Ninja since he previously had nothing. However, when the Golden Weapons didn't react in front of him (and therefore he wasn't the Green Ninja), Morro was genuinely hurt and begging Wu that he could train and learn more but when Wu apologized and pointed out to him that destiny had spoken, Morro lashed out in pain and refused to accept it, leaving to find the First Spinjitzu Master's tomb to prove Wu and destiny wrong and that he was worthy of being the Green Ninja which sadly led to his death in the Caves of Despair, failing to find the tomb and being banished to the Cursed Realm.
- His backstory also gave him insecurities in proving that he should be the Green Ninja which is why he joined up with the Preeminent and when confronting Lloyd in the final battle, his insecurities and his instability caused by them really shine through as he tries to make "Lloyd" (a disguised Nya) to say that Morro is better than him in exchange for letting Lloyd go along with getting paranoid when Lloyd calls him out on his arrogance and thinks Lloyd is mocking him, rants how Lloyd had just unfairly been handed the Green gi by destiny whereas he had to earn what he got (which considering that technically Lloyd becoming the Green Ninja was written in destiny in the Cloud Kingdom and Morro actually defied destiny to escape the Cursed Realm and start the plot of Season 5, Morro actually might have a point) and tries to make him "earn" it by defeating him. In his final moments as Wu tries to save him, Morro reveals his belief that Wu never loved him and that Wu was only trying to save him to get the Realm Crystal to save his prized pupil Lloyd, further showing how Morro was lashing out due to pain and a desire to prove he was special and gain acceptance.
- He redeemed himself after Wu makes him realize that while everyone is strong, it takes others to make them stronger, sorrowfully bidding Wu farewell before sacrificing himself to give Wu the Realm Crystal so Wu could save Lloyd, letting himself get dragged to his death by the Preeminent in the ocean. His redemption is further solidified in the Day of the Departed special when he is revived along with four other deceased previous enemies of the ninja by Master Yang so they could get their revenge (but really distract the ninja from Yang's plan). However, Morro lied to the other villains about taking revenge on Wu and instead used this opportunity to go to Sensei Wu to warn him about Yang's plan and that the ninja were in trouble, meeting up with the ninja to inform them about Yang's plan and how the ninja had forgotten about Cole who was tricked by Yang into opening a rift so Yang could return to Ninjago, allowing the ninja and Wu to go help Cole. With the time remaining, he wished Sensei Wu a happy holiday and willingly returned back to the Departed Realm, marking his final scene.
Trivia[]
- He, Lord Business, Harumi, and The Preeminent are the only LEGO Inconsistently Heinous villains so far.
- He is also the one of the three Ninjago Inconsistently Heinous villains along with Harumi and The Preeminent.
- Morro's backstory has a close resemblance to another Inconsistently Heinous Villain Tai Lung, as they were trained with masters, are both insecure about being loved and respected, are both arrogant, both are martial artists, and are both sympathetic. They were also both wanted to claim a roles that their masters promised them only for those promises to be broken, later they both redeemed themselves, (Morro in Day of the Departed, Tai Lung in Kung Fu Panda 4).
