Moody Mary is a minor villain in Yokai watch 2 and 3, being a strange girl of unknown origin who resides in “the other side” a mysterious dimension at the end of the infinite tunnel and hazy lane.

What Makes Her Heinous?[]
- She created the infinite tunnel and hazy lane, (the latter being an infinite rice field) which are infinetely long areas that make anyone who wanders in them disappear and be doomed to eternally wander them, these areas have made countless people go insane as shown by the many insane NPCs in both places.
- Subconsciously created Malice, an evil violent Yokai who attempts to kill Nathan or Katie.
- She uses her reality warping powers to make those two places extremely dangerous by allowing powerful yokai to enter them, making the infinite tunnel extremely dark, cramped and filthy, as well as it being implied to be structurally unstable, and making hazy lane prone to extreme weather, experience an unstable day and night cycle, releasing giant lobsters to chase people, and even inverting the gravity sometimes.
- She bends the reality of the areas to psychologically torment people based on their specific experiences, as shown with the Heron dialogue and the differences between going to Hazy lane as Hailey or Nathan. To be fair this is implied to be subconscious
- She even Psychologically abuses animals in a horrific way by giving them sapience and high levels of self-awareness while leaving them isolated, causing them to have existential crises which are played for horror
- Despite the high heinous standards and Moody Mary’s reality-warping powers, she stands out for the uniqueness of her psychological tormenting, as well as having low resources due to being active for less time compared to most villains and being confined to the other sides which allows her to use her powers in only the infinite tunnel, Hazy Lane, and the other side.
What Makes Her Inconsistent?[]
- For as smart as she is, her moral agency is too incomprehensible for even NPE as she is extremely disconnected from reality due to her delusions which make her constantly paranoid to the point of hiding her face, subconsciously create monsters through her powers, think there are people who don’t exist, and cause her to genuinely think that she is a dream or that she does not exist altogether (with it being implied that she has cotard’s delusion in some form). She also experiences hallucinations, to the point of not knowing whether or not Katie/Nathan is real. this makes her impaired agency too severe regardless of her intelligence.
- She is extremely tragic as she was heavily implied to be abused at some point, was tormented by Malice, Skulk, and other monsters for a long time, and is shown to be in a state of existential angst from being the only one in the other side, which makes her care about Nathan/Katie and Hayley more. Her mental instability is also played for sympathy. She also mentions that the reason why she is called Moody Mary is because that was an offensive nickname that many people gave her, implying she was treated badly by countless people.
- She is grey zoned and on and off, due to being chaotic neutral, doing whatever she wants based on how she feels, as despite tormenting countless people, she also attempts to save Nathan/Katie from malice, and helps Nathan and Hayley in defeating Skulk, a creature even more dangerous than her.
- Moody Mary combatting both Malice, and Skulk also shows that she has standards as she is shown to be completely horrified by them.
- She genuinely cares about Nathan/Katie and Hayley having a genuine friendship with them, and giving them rare items to aid them in their journey every time they come to visit her.
