NOTE: This page is about the manga version of Mitsuko Souma, as the film and novel counterparts of Mitsuko weren't approved as Inconsistently Heinous, and thus, only the manga version of Mitsuko Souma and her crimes should be put here.

~ Mitsuko as she kills Yoshimi.

Mitsuko Souma is a major antagonist in the manga. She was a student of Class 9-B, who stood out as perhaps one of the most violent, and undoubtebly the most perverted member of the class. She was also the leader of a trio of classmates who commited acts like theft, harassment, and prostitution. By the time of the games, she became one of the two most dangerous members of Class 9-B, alongside Kazuo Kiriyama.

Her Evil Ranking[]

Debated Validations[]

  • While it's made very clear that she didn’t care for Yoshimi, Mitsuko's relationship with Hirono is more different. While they don't interact a lot, we see her going to a salon to have a pedicure alongside Hirono and Yoshimi, and she's never seen mistreating her like she did with Yoshimi. However, she also didn’t mourn her death during the game, and never interacted with her during them.

What Makes Her Heinous?[]

  • When she was a child, she seduced a man who was getting beaten on the streats by having sex with him and then manipulated him into killing her step-father and mother, although both of them deserved it. She would also get him arrested and even braged about being so young yet still making so much trouble.
  • By the time she was in Class 9-B, she would seduce men to steal their things, with her even killing one of them by stabing her in the chest with a sword, as seen in one of the manga's front image.
  • One day, she got into into a place where there was wrestling competition and masturbated in front of one of the wrestling competitors in order to seduce him, and after she did and they had sex in an hotel twice, Mitsuko put him unconscious with a drink and stole his most valuable belongings. When the man woke up, he tried to go after her, but she then revealed that she recorded them having sex and it's revealed that she said during the sex that she was her daughter and was only 15-years-old so she would blackmail him, this would cause him to commit suicide because of the blackmail.
  • Had her friends become prostitutes in order to get more money. One day, she had her friend Yoshimi raped by two men, with her only consern is that they had to pay more because she was a virgin. It's also heavily implied in that she allowed her to get raped again a few times after this.
  • While she did give Yoshimi money after she was raped the first time and even told her to get a shower, this was out of pragmatic reasons as she needed to keep Yoshimi's trust to get more money.
  • According to Megumi, Mitsuko once stabbed a boy for unknown reasons, causing him to be put 13 stitches in order to take care of the knife wound.
  • She faked sympathy for Megumi and used fake tears to manipulate her so Megumi could lower her gun, then Mitsuko killed her by stabbing her in the back of her neck.
  • She killed Yoshimi's boyfriend Yoji in front of her before sadisticaly taunting and killing her.
  • After Chigusa killed Niida and swore to see Hiroki again to prove that she was strong, Mitsuko killed her, then left without a hint of remorse.
  • Seduced Tadakatsu in order to kill him while having sex, although this failed.
  • After Tadakatsu accidentally shot Yuichiro, Mitsuko took that opportunity to stab Tadakatsu to death with her sickle.
  • Although this was intialy because she believed it would make him feel better, she raped Yuichiro to near-death before stabbing him with her sickle, and by the time of when she was halfway through, she wasn't raping him to make Yuichiro feel better but out of perverted sadism, and she shows no remorse after it was over.
  • She tried to kill Kiriyama when they encountered each other.
  • Despite the high heinous standards of Battle Royale, Mitsuko stands out due to her limited rescourses, personal villany, and unique crimes in comparison to Shogo and Kiriyama, despite them having higher kill counts.

What Makes Her Inconsistent?[]

  • She's far too tragic to be Near Pure Evil, she was once just a normal child until her father had to leave her and her mother because the goverment was after him, which deeply affected her. After this, her mother would marry another man who manipulated Mitsuko by giving her a doll as a present so he could molest and rape her, he would also physicaly abuse her to the point that she started to enjoy it and Mitsuko mentions that he would sometimes drink her tears. Her mother would also abuse her because of her being sexualy abused by her father. This would greatly affect Mitsuko as she still believes in her step-father's words and she even is so greatly affected by it that she not only suffers from a split-personality disorder, but she would also genuinely believe that her father was in the toy ring he gave her as a child. Yuichiro, Shuya and even Shogo feel sympathy for her because of this.
  • She is insane, and that is made clear, and thus she has moral agency issues, as she genuinely believes sex is the solution to all problems, to the point that she initialy believed raping Yuichiro would help him get better from his bullet wound. She would also have a great breakdown when she gets the toy ring her father gave to her and would genuinely believe it would protect her from Kiriyama.
  • Her death is played for huge sympathy, where she begs for the people she killed to not leave her and then is shot to death by Kiriyama, and her last thoughts were her not being able to feel her father due to Kiriyama shooting her fingers off, this also applies to her insecurities as well.
  • She loves her father deeply, as she was greatly affected from him leaving her as a child, keeping the ring he gave her before leaving named Magical Emily, and in her last moments, she saw her father as the only person who wouldn't leave her.
  • Alongside all the other members of Class 9-B, she is posthumously played for sympathy, as Shuya said he would honor the students who died in the games and even said by the end of the story that even the worst students (which also applies to Mistuko) deserved better.

Trivia[]

  • She is one of the two characters in Battle Royale to be Inconsistently Heinous, alongside Kitano. She is also the only Inconsistently Heinous from the Battle Royale manga.
