ā€œ I spent years of my life consumed with vengeance...and lost everything for it. You two reminded me that that's not who I am. When you help someone, you help everyone. ā€ž
~ Li thanking the Spider-Men after his Redemption

Martin Li, better known as Mister Negative or The Demon, is one of the two main antagonists (alongside Doctor Octopus) of the 2018 action-adventure superhero video game Marvel's Spider-Man and a major character in its 2023 sequel Marvel's Spider-Man 2.

He is a former terrorist, a former enemy of Peter Parker and the former arch-nemesis of Miles Morales.

As a young boy, he was experimented on by Norman Osborn, whose experiments gave him powers but killed his parents. Attempting to keep his anger under control for years, Li would eventually lead a terrorist crusade to expose Osborn and destroy his reputation, regardless of any lives caught in the crossfire.

He was voiced by Stephen Oyoung.

His Evil Ranking[]

What Makes Him Heinous?[]

Marvel's Spider-Man[]

  • Leads the Inner Demons into committing various crimes across New York City.
  • Corrupts a prison guard into freeing Herman Schultz/Shocker, and later forces him to rob a bank for him, threatening to kill Schultz if he tells anyone about the Inner Demons.
  • Bombs City Hall during a speech from Norman Osborn, killing multiple innocent people including Jefferson Davis, whose death has a great impact on Miles Morales and his family.
    • Not only this, but he later has the Inner Demons kill several survivors around the wreckage
  • Kills Dr. Issac Delaney by forcing him to kill himself using his mind control powers instead of just letting him go considering that Delaney had told him what he wished to know.
  • Manipulated several university students at a Halloween party and forcing them to attack Spider-Man, and later using the ones that managed to escape to commit multiple crimes around New York.
  • Steals the incredibly dangerous Devil's Breath weapon, an act that indirectly lead to Doctor Octopus releasing it into New York, which ended up killing Aunt May.
  • Takes Grand Central Station hostage and plans to release the Devil's Breath inside, getting multiple innocent people killed in the process.
  • Absorbs energy from the Inner Demons multiple times throughout the story, and not caring what happens to them.
  • Joins up with Doctor Octopus and willingly assists him in all of his crimes.
  • Plans to murder Norman Osborn to get revenge for what happened to his parents with everything he has been doing leading to that goal.
  • He Psychological tortures and tries to kill Peter many times.

Marvel's Spider-Man 2[]

  • Attempts to attack the Spider-Men after escaping his containment cell before being captured by Kraven the Hunter.
  • Just like he did to Peter, but so much worse, He Psychologically tortures and tries to kill Miles during their fight, even going as far as to taunt him over the deaths of his father and his friend Phin Mason.

What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]

  • Much like Doctor Octopus, he is far too tragic to qualify as even Near Pure Evil. He was once a normal kid who had a serious medical condition, his parents tried to help him but Otto and Osborn ended up injecting him with an experimental serum that caused Li to gain his powers and accidentally kill his parents. His entire goal is based on simply getting revenge on Osborn for what happened to him and his parents even if his methods are very evil. His backstory is also played for immense sympathy with even Spider-Man showing some sympathy when he learns about what happened to Li. It's also implied that these powers are negatively affecting Li's mind, so he might have moral agency issues.
  • He is genuinely affable. All the niceness he showed wasn't an act, as he started F.E.A.S.T. out of the goodness of his heart because he wanted to help those less fortunate.
  • He genuinely cares about Aunt May, he tries to steer her away from getting close to his plans and he apologizes to her in a letter for all he has done and hopes that she will be able to continue with F.E.A.S.T. and do some good. He's also genuinely mortified that his actions indirectly resulted in her death.
  • In the aforementioned letters, Li shows some regret and contemplation for his actions and wondering if it is really all worth as all the good he has done will go down the drain, implying that Li does feel regret for his actions deep down.
  • He has a pet the dog moment where he stops one of his Inner Demons from killing Miles.
  • While it's implied he killed several Hunters on his way to the arena where he faces against Miles, he admits he didn't have a choice in the matter as he was forced to do it, so this can be justified.
  • After his fight with Miles, he ends up having a change of heart and redeems himself, seeing the error of his ways and even telling Peter how grateful he is for this. He also plays a role in saving New York by preventing Peter from being reinfected by the symbiote and creating his Anti-Venom suit in the process, which he uses destroy Venom.
  • He possesses a sense of honor as he did what Miles requested after their fight: "find Spider-Man" and it that's not enough, after he and Miles saved Spider-Man from getting reinfected, he still felt guilty and then tearfully apologizes to both Spider men for all of his actions and wrongdoings, especially killing Miles' Father as he spent years of his life consumed with vengeance and lost everything for it as he told them that they reminded him that it's not who he is. He then turns himself in to the police believing it was the right thing to do.
