Twilight Sparkle is one of the seven titular protagonists of the Equestria Girls franchise. While overall a heroic character, she was temporarily corrupted by releasing the pendant and becoming Midnight Sparkle and serves as the secondary antagonist of Equestria Girls: Friendship Games and Equestria Girls: Legend of Everfree.
She was voiced by Tara Strong, who also voiced Harley Quinn in the Arkhamverse and Overlord Glee from The Fairly Oddparents.
Her Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Her Heinous?[]
- She has arguably the worst end goal out of any My Little Pony villain, not just wanting to take a place over, but destroy her world to go to Equestria and understand magic, which gives her the highest attempted kill count in the series. While My Little Pony's light-hearted nature prevents any explicit confirmation of "everyone will die", the world being destroyed would certainly kill everyone in her world.
- By opening portals, she endangers several students who nearly fell through the rifts to Equestria and, as they would not be able to fly even if they were pegasi due to not understanding it, most certainly die from the fall.
- Even after her defeat, Twilight is traumatized by what she did as Midnight Sparkle and regrets it immensely, taking a whole movie to get over it.
What Makes Her Inconsistent?[]
- Twilight is a purely heroic character who only ever slipped once, and proved she never would again, becoming a Pure Good heroine.
- She only ever became a villain in the first place due to being driven mad by the magic from the pendant corrupting her mind, giving her severe moral agency issues.
- Even after her fall, she still loves Spike, being distracted from the fight when she realized he was in distress.
- She's incredibly tragic, as she was pressured into using magic in the first place by Principal Cinch and her classmates due to their obsession with victory.
- She ultimately redeems herself when Sunset is able to help her regain control of herself.
Trivia[]
- She is one of several Pure Good heroes to also be Inconsistently Heinous, sharing this distinction with the likes of Mika Misono, Dave Miller, The Collector, Oliver Grayson, Agent Bishop, and Philomela Sargant.
- Out of this group, she's the only one to be a non-villain.
- She is one of four canonical My Little Pony IHs, alongside the Tree of Harmony, Sunset Shimmer, and the Tantabus.
