| “ | Do you have any idea what it would be like to be plucked from obscurity, to sit at God's feet, to be asked to write down his word? The ache I felt when he was gone, telling myself, "Father's left, but look what he's left us. Paradise." But you and your Archangels couldn't leave well enough alone. You ran me from my home. Did you really think you could do all of that to me, and there'd be no payback? | „ |
| ~ Metatron ranting about his motives to Naomi. |
| “ | So I'm a fake. Do you have any idea how much pan-cake makeup and soft lighting it took to get God to work a rope line? He hated it. And, you know, humans sense that. So they prayed harder and longer and fought more wars in His name. And for what?! So they could die of malaria? Leukemia? And all the while, blaming themselves! "Oh, if only I'd been more prayerful, God would have loved me! God would have saved me!" You know what?! God didn't even know their name! But I do. Because I've walked among them. And I can save them. | „ |

Metatron is a major antagonist in the long running CW series, Supernatural.
He was portrayed by Curtis Armstrong.
His Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Him Heinous?[]
- Tricked Castiel and the Winchesters into causing the fall of the angels, his own brothers and sisters. This event kills so many of them, that it eventually gets to the point where there are less than a dozen angels left in Heaven. Should they go extinct, all the souls in heaven would fall to Earth and it would be catastrophic.
- Framed Castiel for the fall and stole his grace, thus reverting him into a human, before casting him out into the middle of nowhere and leaving him at the mercy of the other angels.
- Manipulated the angel, Gadreel (who at the time was possessing Sam Winchester), into killing the prophet, Kevin Tran. Once Sam regains control of his body, he's left blaming himself for what happened to Kevin.
- Orders Gadreel to kill his best friend, Abner, as a punishment for leaving Dean Winchester alive.
- Arranged so that heaven would have no more prophets after Kevin Tran (though this was undone after his defeat).
- Had Gadreel slaughter countless angels and even personally brainwashed multiple angels into killing themselves which caused the deaths of several humans.
- While he performed miracles and healed people on Earth, this was only to gain the trust of humanity so that he would be accepted as the new God. Even helping one of his followers to kill a fellow angel by handing him an angel blade.
- Killed Dean Winchester, who at the time had the Mark of Cain. Causing Dean to be resurrected as a Knight of Hell. While Metatron wasn't aware this would happen, he doesn't regret doing it after he found out.
- Lied to Sam and Castiel by telling them he knows how to remove the Mark of Cain.
- While he did show Castiel where he hid his grace, he had little choice in the matter as Castiel would have killed him otherwise. He also uses this as an opportunity to weaken Castiel using sigils, and likely would've killed him too had Castiel not found his grace in time.
- Filmed crime scenes for money, and even pickpocketed a gunshot victim. When said victim turned out to be alive, Metatron refuses to help him, since if he died there wouldn't be a story.
What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]
- During the second half of season 11, Metatron makes a Heel Face Turn after being confronted by God (AKA Chuck Shurley). Having spent time as a human, Metatron grew to respect other people and angrily calls out God for abandoning his greatest creation. This causes Chuck to step in and stop his sister, Amara, from destroying the universe.
- He also has a pet the dog moment right before this moment, giving a hungry stray dog some meat he salvaged from the trash, even if it meant starving himself.
- During his conversation with God, Metatron shows remorse for his past actions, admitting he doesn't deserve to be an angel again after all he did, and not blaming God for refusing to reinstate his status.
- Makes a genuine alliance with the Winchesters in order to stop Amara, going so far as to stay behind and try to hold off Amara at the cost of his own life.
- After season 9, Metatron undergoes villain decay to the point where he's not even a threat anymore. Even Castiel realizes death is too good for him after a certain point.
