| “ | Now, let's go practice medicine. | „ |
| ~ Medic before going on the battlefront. |
| “ | The healing is not as rewarding as the hurting. | „ |
| ~ One of Medic's most famous quotes. |
Dr. Herbert Ludwig, better known as the Medic, is one of the main protagonists of Valve Corporation's Team Fortress franchise.
He is a German doctor with a rather tenuous adherence to medical ethics, and the primary healing class of the team. He can typically be found near the front-lines, healing wounded teammates while trying to stay out of trouble. While healing, the Medic's ÜberCharge bar will fill up until the weapon begins to crackle, at which point he can activate a deadly charge that either makes himself and an ally temporarily invulnerable.
He is voiced by Robin Atkin Downes.
His Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Him Heinous?[]
- Before the events of the game, he stole someone's skeleton without him knowing, causing the Medic to lose his medical license and to start practicing medicine illegally.
- He does dangerous and gruesome experiments on his teammates. In addition, he doesn't use any pain killer or shock gas in his experiments, which puts his teammates in great pain and exposes them to their operated body.
- He is a contract killer, willing to kill for money, and has a pretty high body count depending on how many players a Medic player kills.
- He is a war criminal, as he has serrated, home-made and chemical weapons, can (optionally) fire on the enemy team's Medic and can kill the enemy team if his wins, all of which is illegal in warfare.
- He uses animal organs when experimenting with his teammates as seen with with the Mega Baboon heart in Meet the Medic.
- In Meet the Medic, he has the still-living head of the BLU Spy in his fridge and often procrastinates on killing him despite the Spy’s constant misery.
- He trapped a burglar's mind into a pumpkin. Even if the latter was trying to rob him and Engineer, doing so was unnecessary.
- He betrayed Mann Co. to join the Classic team to get a new lab and equipment.
- Although, he later implanted baboon uteruses on each member without their knowledge or consent during a routine examination.
- After being killed by the Classic Heavy and sent to Hell, the Medic tells the Devil that he had 8 other souls (likely his teammates) grafted to himself, meaning that they will also be sent to Hell.
- In addition, he also sold one of the souls to have a pen.
- Overall, the Medic easily stands out as the most brutal and sadistic mercenary because of his gruesome experiments and his deal with the Devil.
What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]
- Although he did temporarily betray them, he is genuinely friendly with his teammates, even if it is slightly twisted. He shows enjoyment being with Heavy, showed concern when he thought he and his original team would die soon, and brought Sniper back from the dead. He also cares about his pet doves, as he was genuinely upset and tried to revive Archimedes after Classic Heavy killed him.
- He is On & Off, as he can sometimes be heroic such as helping Mann Co. defeat the Classic team.
- Along with the other Team Fortress 2 mercenaries, he is too comedic to be Near Pure Evil.
Trivia[]
- He is one of the two incarnations of Medic to be Inconsistently Heinous, the other being his Healirious counterpart.
- He is the only Team Fortress 2 class/mercenary/team member to be Inconsistently Heinous.
