~ Marvin the Martian |
Marvin the Martian is one of the main antagonists of the Looney Tunes franchise. He's Daffy Duck's archenemy and Bugs Bunny's 3rd archenemy (after Elmer Fudd and Yosemite Sam). He's also the main antagonist of the Duck Dodgers TV Series, a supporting character in the 1996 hybrid movie Space Jam, one of two secondary antagonists (alongside Mr. Smith) in the 2003 hybrid movie Looney Tunes: Back in Action, the main antagonist of the 2015 animated movie Rabbits Run and a minor antagonist in the 2021 hybrid movie Space Jam 2.
He was voiced by Mel Blanc from 1948 until his death in 1989. Since then, he has been voiced by other actors such as the late Joe Alaskey, Greg Burson, Sam Vincent, and Eric Bauza (since 2011).
His Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Him Heinous?[]
- He tried to kill several characters such as Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck and Porky Pig many times.
- He killed Daffy Duck at least twice, but was resurrected by Porky Pig.
- He repeatedly tried to destroy Earth just to look at Venus from Mars many times, he even plotted this ever since he graduated high school over his own bad high school times, and has even destroyed it in The Looney Tunes Show song "I'm A Martian".
- In Space Jam, he was trying to sabotage The Toon Squad during their quest and has shot Sylvester with a laser gun because Marvin believed he was an alien and also cheered for the Monstars to win.
- In Looney Tunes: Back In Action, he tried to help Mr. Chairman in his evil plan to turn all people into monkeys and to kill Damian Drake, D.J. Drake, Kate Houghton, Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck. He also released many dangerous and illegal aliens in Area 52.
- In Rabbits Run, he tried to make the Earth invisible and then went out to kill Bugs Bunny, Lola Bunny, Yosemite Sam, Cecil Turtle and Giovanni Jones.
- In Space Jam: A New Legacy, he tried to kill Bugs Bunny and LeBron James for stealing his ship.
What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]
- He is very frequently played for laughs and not taken seriously, which is in tone with the Looney Tunes franchise as a whole.
- Even his catchphrase, "This makes me very angry", reflects this, with him repeatedly saying this after one of his plots is foiled.
- He has shown genuine love and care for a few people:
- In the Duck Dodgers series, he was genuinely in love with Queen Tyrahnee.
- He was making cubes for his niece Marcia to make her happy in the Tiny Toon Adventures episode segment "Duck Dodgers Jr.", showing that he loves her.
- He is genuinely affable and has shown such affability to several people, even towards his own enemy Bugs Bunny.
- At the end of Duck Dodgers and the Return of the 24 1/2 Century, when his scheme to destroy the Earth seemingly succeeds he breaks the fourth wall and reassures the viewer that there's nothing to worry about because it's only a cartoon.
- He was affable to Bugs and Daffy in Loony Tunes: Back in Action when he was willing to give them directions, believing they were lost in space even though he was out to fight them and kill them.
- In The Looney Tunes Show, he was a good friend of Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Porky Pig and Pete Puma.
- In the Duck Dodgers episode "The F.U.D.D.", he teamed up with Daffy and Porky to defeat The F.U.D.D., who was terrorizing everybody.
- Although most of the time he deserves the antics that suffers, in Space Jam 2, he is becomes a scapegoat since he is treated like a punching bag (firstly shooting himself with an anti-gravity ray and floating, then getting slammed by the door twice). It was played for laughs, but eventually makes us feel unintentional sympathy.
Trivia[]
- He's one of the three Looney Tunes villains to be Inconsistently Heinous, along with Daffy Duck and Sylvester J. Pussycat Sr.
