“ | Whatever you do, don't look behind you. | „ |
~ Mandy. |
“ | It is not enough to succeed, others must fail. | „ |
~ Mandy's most famous quote. |
Mandy is one of the three titular main protagonists of the Cartoon Network series The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy.
She is an extremely cynical, remorseless and cold-hearted little girl who views herself as superior to everyone else and often expresses her desire to rule the world with an iron fist. She is the best friend of Billy and the friend/master of the Grim Reaper.
She was voiced by Grey DeLisle, who also voiced Asajj Ventress in the 2003 Star Wars: Clone Wars series, Azula in Avatar: The Last Airbender and Aya in Green Lantern: The Animated Series.
Her Evil Ranking[]
Debatable Validations[]
- In Jacked-Up Halloween,She's actually given a bit of pause when Grim recounts what he did to Jack O'Lantern for outsmarting and pranking him. Though part of that might also be her realizing that Grim could very easily have done the same thing to her and Billy if he hadn't phrased his side of the wager the way he did.
What Makes Her Heinous?[]
In General[]
- She is extremely abusive towards her friends Billy and Grim, and views them nothing more than servants to do her bidding.
- She also strikes fear into her parents as they bow down to her and allows her to do whatever she wants out of fear.
- It is revealed in the episode "Keeper of the Reaper" that they openly admit they're terrified of her.
- She is partly the reason why Mindy is a spoiled, antagonistic brat, as it is revealed in a flashback in "Educating Grim" that she told her to "shut up" when she wouldn't stop talking. While it was justified as Mindy was annoying, she could have handled it better.
- She is almost completely devoid of any empathy and has a chilling lack of remorse for her villainous deeds.
- While the show has a massive Heinous Standard, Mandy stands out for committing many incredibly heinous acts over the course of the series even when taking her low resources into account, despite her not being as heinous as Boogey Man or Bun Bun (who both have more resources combined).
Her Villainous Deeds[]
- In "Meet the Reaper", after winning a limbo contest against Grim to save the life of Billy's pet hamster, Mr. Snuggles, she and Billy force him to be their best friend forever, and from that day forward, she would abuse Grim on a daily basis.
- In "Opposite Day", she and Billy use the titular holiday to force Grim to do their chores and torment him for their own amusement.
- In "Get Out of My Head!", she possesses Billy's pet cat Milkshakes and mauls Billy (presumably to death) as revenge for him taking control of her to do mischievous acts.
- In "A Dumb Wish", she uses her third and final wish to make everyone in the whole world disappear, thus erasing everyone from existence.
- While she does appear to show remorse for it, this is literally subverted at the very end of episode, where she smiles and says, "Perfect".
- In "Tastes Like Chicken", it's heavily implied that she ate Irwin, as she burps out his glasses.
- In "Little Rock of Horrors", she fuses with the Brain-Eating Meteor due to her brain being "too spicy" and ordered Billy to bring her more brains.
- In "Dream a Little Dream", she was the only one not to suffer from insomnia after having nightmares from eating moldy pizza as her dream involved commanding an army of demons to the rhythm of music after being pulled into a volcano. She even says she slept good last night.
- In "Toadblatt's School of Sorcery", she helps Nigel Plantar sabotage Gunderstank and later betrays him by getting him to reveal how he sabotaged Gunderstank, which got him in trouble with Toadblatt and presumably fed to the One-Eyed Dwarf.
- In "Brown Evil", she sends Billy out to fight off a zombie invasion with nothing to defend himself with but a stick. If it weren't for the fact that the zombies only wanted the brownies or if Hoss Delgado hadn't stepped in, Billy would have been eaten alive.
- In "Mandy the Merciless", it is revealed in a possible future that she has successfully taken over the world as a half-worm half-human dictator in a dystopian desert world, enslaves all of humanity to work in cinnamon mines for cinnamon to make her more powerful, uses clones of Billy to keep her company and has her own army of monsters to combat the Resistance. She enslaves Grim in the future as well. She later lies to Billy about frogs being her weakness just so she can manipulate him into bringing the Resistance fighters to her doorstep and have them imprisoned. She also tortures Grim as punishment for treason as he was working with the Resistance behind her back.
- In "The Really Odd Couple", she imprisons a bound and gagged Billy by bricking him in his own closet as retribution for accidentally setting off a stink bomb in her house.
- In "Crushed", she demands that Grim cut her heart out so that she wouldn't be able to fall in love with Piff.
- In “The Grim Show”, she and Billy humiliate Grim on his on-TV show, causing it to be cancelled.
- In "Chicken Ball Z", she enters a martial arts tournament and consumes the chicken ball to make herself more powerful and destroys the entire building during a fight with Billy. At the end of the episode, she buys Bunny Island from Hector Con Carne with the intention of ruling the world.
- In "Five O'Clock Shadows", she corrupts her shadow counterpart into being as cruel and ruthless as herself by destroying her favorite unicorn toys.
- In "Complete and Utter Chaos", she announces her intent to use the Golden Apple of Discord to rule chaos, control discord and punch Irwin in the mouth.
- In "Sickly Sweet", when faced with a choice of either turning into a hideous beast or being nice, she willingly chose the former.
- In "Test of Time", she and Billy mess around with Grim's universal remote control, creating an alternate timeline where past and future collide in chaos.
- In "Toys Will Be Toys", she melts two sentient Dinobonoids action figures with a magnifying glass and sunlight and attempts to do the same with a shrunken Billy.
- In "Chocolate Sailor", after Billy gets turned into a chocolate sailor and explodes after eating a whole box of enchanted chocolates (including the antidote), she and Grim scoop up his remains and use them as chocolate sauce to eat ice cream.
- In "The Secret Snake Club", she brutally beats the three members of the titular club as revenge for holding her hostage.
- In "Wishbones", she attempts to sell Thromnambular, a skull genie with only one wish left, to the highest bidder, knowing very well that wish would backfire on the owner (which is why she's selling it), and causes a town brawl.
- In "Happy Huggy Stuffy Bears", while she declines Eris' offer to join forces with her to take over the world, it's only due to the realization that she would be the second most powerful person on Earth.
- In “Scythe for Sale”, it’s implied she stole Grim’s scythe to turn Irwin into a sea creature as revenge for him using it to brainwash Mandy into falling in love with him.
- In “Zip Your Fly”, she uses the magic zipper to take Mindy’s mouth off (though she deserved it) and to open Sperg’s stomach in order to take back the lunch he stole from her and puts Irwin inside and zip Sperg’s stomach back up.
- In “The Schlubs”, she commits near genocide against the titular race of creatures by melting them into gold and using said gold to make herself rich.
- In “Billy & Mandy Save Christmas”, she wanted to kill Santa Claus despite him being a victim of the head vampire (who happened to be his own wife Nancy).
- In “Keeper of the Reaper”, her argument with Billy over who gets custody of the Grim Reaper leads to a courtroom battle which results in Billy and his family being placed under house arrest and her gaining full custody of Grim so she could “abuse him in the right ways.”
- In "Pandora’s Lunch Box", while she stops Pan-dora from unleashing a plague on humanity, it is only so she would get a chance to unleash her own plague on humanity.
- In “Giant Billy and Mandy All Out Attack”, while she defeats Kittirah, she only did it so that she could punish Billy and Grim for organizing the expedition without her consent.
- In "Scary Poppins", she brainwashes the entire population of Endsville (except Grim and the Nanny) into beating up the Nanny.
- In “Anger Mismanagement”, after their anger management instructor Larry gets arrested for attacking a man with a burger on his head for ruining his parking space, she, Grim and General Skarr steal his van and take it for a test drive.
- In “Billy & Mandy’s Big Boogey Adventure”, she imagines herself using Horror’s Hand to enslave all of humanity.
- In "The Greatest Love Story Ever Told Ever", in what could be her cruelest Kick the Dog moment, she manipulates Irwin and Nergal Jr. into fighting over her and ruining the Valentine's Day dance at their school and reveals to them that this is exactly what she wanted, rationalizing that if she can’t enjoy Valentine's Day, then no one can.
- In "Detention X", she tricks Miss Slither, a giant teacher from the underworld into giving Billy a much worse punishment than an eternity of clapping erasers, which involves forcing him to stand with a stack of books in each hand, exposing his undergarments, tormenting him with his fear of clowns and topping it off with spiders on his face, just so she could escape the Detention Dimension to exact vengeance on Grim for sending her to the aforementioned dimension. She later does so by transporting him to the dimension in exchange, where he is subjected to the same torture as Billy.
- In "The Incredible Shrinking Mandy", in what could be her at her most villainous, after growing into giant size, she destroys Billy’s house, terrorizes the carnival goers at Sassy Cat Land, throws the moon into a black hole (which messed up the tides), caused chaos and destruction throughout Endsville, and ate Sperg who was surfing.
- In “Heartburn”, while she undergoes a change of heart and changes into a kind and caring little girl, this was completely done against her own will. When she is about to share a kiss with Irwin, she reverts back to her cruel and cold hearted self.
- She crosses the Moral Event Horizon in "The Grim Adventures of the KND" when she holds Numbuh One hostage, tortures him, steals his identity, takes over the KND Moonbase, and transforms the KND organization into a dictatorship. Worst of all, she lies to Numbuh 362 about a virus that is making kids delirious just so she could take over as head of the KND.
- While she does try to stop the Delightful Reaper, it was only because she viewed it as a threat to her plan for world domination. Even worse, when Grim asks her to aid him in defeating the Delightful Reaper, she willingly merged with it with the intent on conquering the multiverse.
What Makes Her Inconsistent?[]
- She is from The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy, which is a black comedy show that is played for laughs all the time and has negative continuity. While she is taken seriously by the other characters and in-universe, this isn't applicable to the narrative since the comedic nature of the show prevents her from being Near Pure Evil, even without the following preventions. Even so, she has several comedic moments that detract from her villainy. Some examples include:
- Several of her intros before each episode of the show, which contain many pop culture references.
- Her denying she has a fear of professional figure skaters (claiming that she just doesn't trust the way they spin) in the episode "Attack of the Clowns".
- Her being dressed as Bubbles from The Powerpuff Girls when she, Grim and Billy are transported in the PPG universe in the episode "My Fair Mandy".
- Her worst fear being a chubby, unattractive woman and married to Irwin in "Big Boogey Adventure", which is played for laughs.
- Her admonishing Numbuhs Three and Four for the lame acronym for the M.A.N.D.R.O.B.O.T. (Monkeys And Nice Doggies Relax On Bellies Of Turtles) in "The Grim Adventures of the KND".
- Even her torture of Numbuh One in the aforementioned special is played for laughs with her forcing Numbuh One to watch Fred Fredburger talking about how he enjoy shows about monkeys (My Gym Partner's a Monkey), enjoy shows about monkeys going to camp (Camp Lazlo), and enjoys shows about imaginary friends (Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends).
- Despite her constant abuse of him, she does genuinely care about her friend Billy and is usually the first to take initiative to get him out of trouble. Additionally, Billy is sometimes portrayed as enjoying physical violence inflicted on by Mandy.
- In fact, in "Billy & Mandy's Big Boogey Adventure", when she believes Billy has died after getting eaten by a kraken, she became sad about it and was on the verge of tearing up.
- As Billy is being attacked by the Spider-Clown Mailman created by Horror's hand, the first thing Mandy does is try to save him by shooting at it with a laser gun.
- She also cares for her pet dog Saliva, even if she isn't that fond of him.
- She is on and off, as she has done some heroic deeds from time to time, and they aren't even done out of pragmatism or self-serving needs. Some notable examples include:
- In "Meet the Reaper", where she challenges Grim to a limbo contest to save the soul of Billy's pet hamster.
- In "Billy & Mandy's Jacked Up Halloween", where she plays an instrumental role in defeating Jack O'Lantern's pumpkin army.
- In "Nursery Crimes", where she saves Billy from getting eaten by a cannibalistic Pinocchio.
- In "Attack of the Clowns", where she and Grim help Billy overcome his fear of clowns.
- In "Prank Call of Cthulhu", where she defeats Cthulhu by trapping him in the phone lines to make sure he never causes trouble again.
- In "Pandora's Lunchbox", where she stops Pandora from unleashing a plague on humanity.
- In "Company Halt", where she and Billy stop the Evil Con Carne organization from destroying the neighborhood.
- In "Billy & Mandy's Big Boogey Adventure", where she helps Grim stop Boogey Man from obtaining Horror's Hand and get his job back. She also tells to Mandroid that she didn't need to hurt Fred Fredburger with a cannonball as he hadn't done anything to deserve it.
- In "Billy and Mandy Moon the Moon", where she, Billy, Grim and Sperg stop alien werewolves from stealing Earth's dairy products.
- In "Wrath of the Spider Queen", where she works together with her archrival Mindy to fight off Velma Green's spider army.
- In "Dracula Must Die!", where she stops Lionel Van Helsing from killing Dracula.
- In "Underfist: Halloween Bash", where she assists the titular team in stopping Bun Bun from taking over the world with an army of candy monsters.
- She has some sense of honor, as she has respect for some people such as Hoss Delgado (especially since he's the protagonist of President Evil, a game she likes), Jeff the Spider (whom she refuses to kill), Mrs. Doolin (especially after finding out she beat Grim several times) and Pan-dora (prior to the latter's betrayal). She was also willing to give Mindy back her position as the cheerleader captain in the episode "The Wrongest Yard".
- Despite her having a high level of arrogance and a belief she is superior to everyone else, she has some insecurities, as shown in the episode "My Fair Mandy" where she is insecure about the way she looks due to her archrival Mindy calling her ugly.
- Despite how evil and cruel she is, she is shown has some stantards:
- She has a dislike for cheating.
- Quite a few of the disturbing and grotesque things that happen to Billy leave her as speechless and horrified as anyone would be. Like him developing a sentient growth in "Billy's Growth Spurt", turning into chocolate and eating himself alive in "Chocolate Sailor", and breaking and twisting his own neck in "Order of the Peanuts."
- Although she initially wanted to watch, she's a little shocked by the horrible things Nergal Junior does to Sperg in revenge for the bullying.
- She cares for her parents. In "Keeper of the Reaper," they admit they're terrified of her which shocked her which suggested she scaring her parents wasn’t her never intended to do and in "Dad Day Afternoon", she tells her father she loves him.
- Her heinous actions are far outnumbered by Billy's many unintentionally destructive and impulsive actions caused by his own stupidity. As a result, she's actually quite reserved most of the time and can cause little terror when left alone.
- She is able to feel love for others such as:
- She falls in love at first sight with a goth artist boy who Billy befriends in "Crushed."
- Her discovery that Irwin was born evil in "Heartburn" causes her to respect him for having started life with a heart as cruel and twisted as hers. This revelation prompts a twisting of her own heart into becoming as loving and caring as he has made himself, to the point that she actually kisses him.
