Maligula Galocchio is the main antagonist of the Psychonauts videogame series.
She's the alter-ego of Lucrecia Mux, one of the Psychic Seven, born after a breakdown opened a primal part of her mind.
She was voiced by Audrey Wasilewski.
Her Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Her Heinous?[]
- After her creation from Lucrecia Mux's trauma and the "fight" in her fight-or-fly response, she drove the Psychonaut to kill as many people as possible and destroy everything in her path.
- Callously dismissed the death of her sister Marona, who her host cared greatly for and was absolutely devastated when she died.
- She killed Theodore's executioner by drowning him in the Gzar's pool after he was sent to dispose of her.
- Flooded the entirety of Grulovia, destroying the kingdom and killing many people.
- While fighting the Psychic Seven, she blasted Cassie in the face with water, was implied to have drowned Compton's army of bears and wolves by washing them away, ignored their attempts to reason with her, and almost killed Helmut when the latter tried to save Bob.
- Her actions had led to many of the Psychic Seven being affected even long after facing her. Including:
- Ford shattering his own mind with the Astralathe because of his guilt for not being able to kill her, as well as developing a split personality.
- Bob's descent into alcoholism after the supposed death of his husband (which eventually led to Truman firing him because of his skills during missions deteriorating significantly as well and Bob isolating himself further).
- The Aquatos being "cursed" to always die in water as Ford programmed this memory in Lucrecia's mind to protect them if Maligula ever returned (which led to Raz always seeing the Hand of Galochio trying to drown him whenever he himself was near water deeper than a few inches).
- Cassie being isolated in Green Needle Gulch and playing the role of the Green Needle Witch after her librarian archetype took over her mind.
- Compton placing himself in the Psychoisolation Chamber in the quarry to prevent him from being overwhelmed by his own telepathic powers.
- Helmut losing access to his senses and being trapped in a memory of the event with nothing but vague figments of what happened.
- Upon being reawakened, she tried to drown the rest of the Psychic Seven (including Helmut while he was in Nick's/Gristol's body), Gristol in Truman's body, Hollis, Sasha, Milla, Oleander, and Norma (all of whom were in the Heptadome with Lucrecia at the time) in a hydrokinetic tornado.
- She tried to kill Raz when the latter entered her host's mind, attacked his interns with her water snakes when they arrived to assist him and even pushed Lucrecia's mental apparition (whom she specifically calls a "weakling") within her own whenever she tried to separate from her during the battle.
- In spite of expressing brief sorrow over Marona's death and cradling the latter's mental apparition tenderly in her arms, it was only because Lucrecia's apparition was merged with her rather than out of any genuine care for her. And Maligula callously brushed off Marona's death as just one person she killed once Maligula herself was seperated from Lucrecia.
- Tried to kill Raz one more time. And when he punched her into the Astralathe's pit with the help of his great-aunt enlarging him to do so and giving him fire-breathing powers, she talked down to him by stating that the young psychic "can't get rid of [her because] she is a part of [Lucrecia]" for as long as the latter lives.
What Makes Her Inconsistent?[]
- She is ultimately too tragic to be NPE or PE, since, while not directly played for sympathy, her entire existence is traced back to Lucrecia's (a perfectly innocent woman) mental breakdown (and said mental breakdown happened after Grulovia was sent to protect her sister from a war, only to accidentally kill Marona thanks to Gzar's demands for her to become more ruthless against her opponents, and her struggles to cope with her loss. After Lucrecia was robbed of her mental defenses thanks to the Psychic Seven's experiments with the Astralathe, it allowed Maligula to usurp her host's mental power, manifesting from her grief, guilt, and fury after she failed to protect her sister.
- Because she's simply a fragment of Lucrecia's personality (who is, by contrast, a kind-hearted and heroic girl before Maligula took control), and the fact that she came into being because of Lucrecia's "fight or flight" complex having gone out of control, she has moral agency issues.
Trivia[]
- She, Coach Morceau Oleander and Dr. Loboto are the currently the only three Psychonauts villains to be IH.
