Erik Magnus Lehnsherr, better known as Magneto, is the main antagonist of the original continuity of 20th Century Fox's X-Men film series.
He is an extremely powerful and ruthless mutant with the ability to manipulate all forms of magnetism and is the former archenemy of the X-Men. Following the deaths of his parents at a concentration camp at the hands of the Nazi mutant scientist Sebastian Shaw, Erik Lehnsherr set himself in using his powers to avenge his parents, coming across the mutant Charles Xavier. However, after stopping Shaw, Lehnsherr turned against Xavier and formed the Brotherhood of Mutants to oppose Xavier's X-Men, with both organization set in making humanity accept mutantkind, but through different methods. Originally striving to force mutation and thus mutanthood on the world leaders and the entirety of Washington, DC, as a twisted way of having them see things from the perspective of the mutants they feared and persecuted, due to his ruthless and criminal tactics and the barely concealed spite he has towards not just humanity's authority systems, but mankind as whole, going so far as to enact all out war against them once his ranks in his Brotherhood have expanded to an army, he functioned as one of the world's foremost and fearsome supervillains for a generation, nonetheless retaining an approximation of scruples due to his strained but treasured friendship with Xavier.
He was portrayed by Sir Ian McKellen, who also voiced The Toad in Flushed Away, as an elderly man and Michael Fassbender as a youth.
His Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Him Heinous?[]
In General/Background[]
- While he says he's fighting for mutantkind, he's willing to kill other mutants if they get in the way, which Wolverine calls him out on.
- As he is the same character from the main X-Men timeline, he has done all of his crimes leading up to 1973, including trying to annihilate dozens of warships and poisoning Raven Darkholme's mind against Charles Xavier.
X-Men[]
- He kidnaps the anti-mutant politician Robert Kelly and forcefully mutates him with a machine. This causes his death later on, in a slow and painful way.
- He plans to use the machine on other world leaders, an act of terrorism that he will use to enforce mutant supremacy.
- He nearly kills Rogue in a very painful way.
X2[]
- He kills a prison guard after putting iron in his blood, rather sadistically. Though to be fair, the guard was physically abusive towards him constantly.
- He works with the X-Men to stop William Stryker from killing all mutants with Cerebro, but then decides to kill every human instead by rewiring it, which only narrowly backfires.
X-Men: The Last Stand[]
- He crushes a group of cars and trucks with his mutation.
- He proceeds to abandon Mystique callously after she was hit with the mutant cure, which she thankfully doesn't take lying down.
- He invades Ellis Island with a mutant army to stop the mutant cure, sacrificing some of his members to learn how to defeat them. Afterwards, he ordered one of the Omegas to shatter the plastic guns the heroes were using to defend their island before having the entire place stormed and ransacked until Beast hits him with the mutant cure, stripping him of his powers.
What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]
- He is far too tragic to even be Near Pure Evil. He and his family were sent to Concentration Camps in Poland to be mass-tortured. His father was separated from him and his mother was shot dead by one of Shaw's men when he failed to move a coin once they found out about his Mutant abilities.
- Even in his eviler moments, he sees Xavier and Darkholme as friends. He also loves his family, including his deceased mother.
- He is an extremist who only does what he does to protect mutantkind.
- He is on and off, as he is willing to work with the X-Men to fight other threats such as William Stryker and the Sentinels.
