Inconsistently Heinous Wiki

Lysandre (Japanese: フラダリ, Hepburn: Fuladari) is the main antagonist of Pokémon X and Y, and a minor antagonist in Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon. He is the leader of Team Flare, a villainous team devoted to depopulating the world to preserve it's beauty and natural resources.

His Evil Ranking[]

What Makes Him Heinous?[]

  • He founded Team Flare with the goal of wiping out everyone in the world who isn't a member of Team Flare, be they humans or Pokémon, in order to make a more "beautiful" world in it's place.
    • This is made worse by the fact that Team Flare has an entry fee of 5 million Pokédollars, meaning that very few people will be saved by design.
  • He has Bryony and Celosia steal Pokéballs, so they can catch more Pokémon to power the Ultimate Weapon.
  • After the Ultimate Weapon is reactivated, he battles the player to stall them and give the weapon more time to recharge, so it can destroy all life.
  • After losing to the player a third time, he fires the Ultimate Weapon. In Y he does it to kill everyone in the building; in X he does it to make the player immortal to "give them the pain of endlessly waiting for a perfect world," putting them in a fate worse than death.
  • In Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, he gives the player a choice between activating and shutting off the Ultimate Weapon, but rigs it so that it activates regardless of what the player chooses.
  • While Cyrus also tried to destroy the entire universe in previous games, Lysandre has less resources than Cyrus and doesn't have the ability to destroy the universe.

What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]

  • He is a well-intentioned extremist who believes that the only way to save humanity from a Malthusian crisis is to drastically reduce the human population. In a Lysandre Lab report, he says "either everything is lost, or only a handful are saved."
  • He shows remorse for his actions and only follows through with them since he thinks there is no other way. When asked about what'll happen to Pokémon, he sheds a tear and admits he feels remorse for the fact that Pokémon will all die too.
  • It is implied that he has a tragic past of going insane when he concluded that the only way to save the world is to commit mass murder.
  • He is polite and affable in several moments. He congratulates the player for mastering Mega Evolution, thanks the player for listening to him before giving them the King's Rock, and apologizing if the player chooses the blue button.
  • He has a sense of honor. He gives the player a key to Lysandre Labs after their first battle. He also admits that if the player shut down the Ultimate Weapon, he would have stopped his plans.

Trivia[]

  • He is one of three mainline Pokémon Inconsistently Heinous villains, others being AZ and Zinnia.
    • Interestingly, all three of them were introduced in the 6th generation.
  • His Anime Counterpart does not qualify as Inconsistently Heinous, as that version of Lysandre is even worse than his original counterpart and lacks any Noble goals, with his genocide being done out of pure delusion and egotistical ideas.
