“ | I spent my life as a scientist trying to create a world without weakness, without outcasts. I sought to create a stronger human being, but there's no such thing. Human beings are weak, pathetic, feeble-minded creatures. Why be human at all when we can be so much more faster, stronger and smarter? This is my gift to you. | „ |
~ Dr. Curt Connors explaining how he will change human life on a video. |
Dr. Curtis "Curt" Connors, also known as the Lizard, is the main antagonist of the 2012 superhero film The Amazing Spider-Man and a supporting antagonist in the 2021 Marvel Cinematic Universe film Spider-Man: No Way Home.
He was a brilliant Oscorp geneticist who wanted to use his research to regenarate lost limbs so he could regrow his lost arm and create a world without weakness, but when his superiors tried to use his serum to cure Norman Osborn by testing it first with military veterans, Connors injected it on himself, which caused him to transform into a savage and delusional reptilian-human mutated hybrid, eager to subject all of New York City's population to the same process, becoming the Lizard. Years later, the Lizard is accidentally transported to Earth-199999 through space and time before his imprisonment, where he reverts back to his animalistic instincts and shows a willingness to repeat his plans in this new reality, allying himself with other interdimensional villains.
He was portrayed by Rhys Ifans.
His Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Him Heinous?[]
In General[]
- While the Lizard may initially seem to fail the MCU's massive Heinous Standards like the Green Goblin, the Goblin only killed twenty-two people while the Lizard's plan, if successful, would have transformed countless people into lizard hybrids like him against their wills, something heinous enough for him to stand out in the MCU, as he considerably has less resources than some of the MCU's native supervillains.
The Amazing Spider-Man[]
- Upon becoming the Lizard, he started throwing cars off the Williamsburg Bridge, endangering countless civilians, even children.
- Additionally, by getting out from the taxi he had taken earlier, he left the taxi driver traumatized and heavily scarred.
- Tries to kill Rajit Ratha due to firing him from Oscorp and trying to test his serum on military veterans (though it can be argued that Ratha deserved it for trying to experiment with innocents).
- Attacks Spider-Man when he comes to his lair to catch him and take some photos of him.
- Sneaks into Peter Parker's school and rampages through it while trying to kill Spider-Man, having discovered that Spidey and Peter are the same person. He even endangered some students and the school's librarian, to whom he threw a desk while he was distracted checking some books and listening to music (though Spider-Man fortunately stopped the desk from hitting him).
- Attempts to transform everyone in New York City into lizard hybrids so they will be perfect humans with no weaknesses, later intending to use his formula all over the world.
- While it can be assumed that becoming a lizard hybrid isn't that horrible, it is, because when the Lizard defeats the SWAT team who tries to stop him, he infects them with his serum and they are shown to suffer while transforming just like Connors did when his transformation started in a taxi days ago, which means that the serum is quite painful and preventing this from being Fridge Horror.
- Tries to kill Spider-Man, taunting Peter about losing parents Richard and Mary and his uncle Ben.
- Kills Captain George Stacy, his student Gwen's father, when he comes to save Peter.
- His act of murdering Captain Stacy made him one of Spider-Man's most personal enemies, as it led George to ask him to leave Gwen to protect her from his heroic lifestyle, straining Peter's love life and having him suffer hallucinations of Captain Stacy in the following film, which led to a tragic outcome in the long run with Gwen's death at the hands of Harry Osborn/Green Goblin.
Spider-Man: No Way Home[]
- Attacks Doctor Strange in the sewers of New York City after being accidentally transported to Earth-199999 through space and time by a spell that Strange cast to help his world's Spider-Man in erasing his secret identity from public knowledge after being outed and framed by Mysterio.
- Upon reuniting with Electro, whom he knew back in his Oscorp days when they were normal, he proposes to transform him into a lizard hybrid like him as a "makeover".
- States his intentions of repeating his lizard transformation plans in Earth-199999 if allowed.
- Even before the Green Goblin resurfaced and convinced Electro and Sandman from turning on the MCU's Peter Parker, the Lizard showed no willingness to be reverted back to human.
- Upon breaking free from the F.E.A.S.T. truck, he grabs the MCU's Spider-Man as he battled the Green Goblin before throwing him through a window back to the Green Goblin.
- Attacks Raimiverse Spider-Man by grabbing his leg falling to a crane where they fight, in one point he manage to overpower him due to desynchronization of the three Spider-Men, and nearly kills him.
- Attacks his native Spider-Man during the battle at the Liberty Statue, trying to kill him while he and his counterparts try to cure Electro and Sandman. Even though he took his time to greet his native Spider-Man, he still attempt to kill him as revenge for ruining his plan the first time back in their universe.
- Tries to kill the defenseless Ned Leeds and Michelle Jones by sneaking into the magic portal Ned opened, leading the MCU's Spider-Man to stop him.
- Attempts to bite off the head of the MCU's Spider-Man, who uses the opportunity to have him bite the Lizard Anti-Serum.
What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]
- He is a Well-Intentioned Extremist, as all he wanted, aside from curing his lost arm, was to create a world in which people would lack any physical weaknesses, proving that he was selflessly thinking in other people in addition to himself, likely feeling bad for them due to having to suffer the difficulties he surely had to endure as a one-armed man.
- He ultimately redeems himself after being cured in his first appearance, showing his gratitude towards Peter Parker by refusing to tell him the truth about his father Richard when pressed by Gustav Fiers at his cell.
- He also apparently redeems himself again after being cured by the MCU Spider-Man.
- Even as the Lizard, he did show a kinder side, as seen when he complimented Max Dillion's new look and politely warned the main reality Peter Parker that his intentions to help him and the rest of the villains would have consequences. He even took the time to greet his native Spider-Man, even though he was fighting him. In addition, Lizard could not believe that the main reality Peter Parker had someone like Michelle Jones for a girlfriend.
- He seemed fond of Gwen, as he refused to attack her when he found her hiding.
