Oh my God! I killed a man! A bad man, which actually makes me... a hero.
~ Lisa Simpson after having killed Snake Jailbird.

Lisa Marie Simpson is the main protagonist of "Death Tome", the second segment of The Simpsons Halloween special "Treehouse of Horror XXXIII".

She is an alternate version of Lisa Simpson who discovers the Death Tome, a mysterious notebook which kills anyone whose name is written in it. Corrupted by this power and the influence of the Death Tome's owner, Steve Johnson, she would go on a killing spree in order to achieve justice, eventually facing off with the detective L.

Like her mainstream counterpart, she was voiced by Yeardley Smith.

Her Evil Ranking[]

What Makes Her Heinous?[]

  • When she found the Death Tome, she took the notebook with her despite knowing it killed anyone whose name was written on it.
  • She killed Snake Jailbird when he threatened to shoot a cat on live tv. Though she didn't expect it to happen, she believed herself to be a hero and went on a killing spree to achieve justice.
  • After hearing about Mr. Burns' plans of causing millions to down, she tried to kill him in a peaceful way and ended up brutally killing him (though he deserved it anyway).
  • She killed all the GLOBO-WARM employees in brutal ways.
  • After identifying L as her brother Bart, she was about to write his name in the notebook before being stopped and regretting it.
  • She considered killing Jamie at Bart's suggestion after becoming a Shinigami, suggesting that she may not have really learned her lesson and may now take advantage of her godhood to kill anyone she was ordered to kill.
  • Even after becoming a Shinigami, she retained full moral agency as the Halloween special lacked the explicit description of Shinigami, not to mention she was already evil beforehand.
  • While she originally tried to give Mr. Burns a painless and peaceful death, she later inflicts horrifying deaths on her other victims, subverting the standard she may have initially had.
  • While she had lots of comedic moments, such as when she tried writing "L" on the Death Tome only for Steve Johnson to correct her that she needed his real name and the ways she killed the Globo-Warm employees were played for humor, like toilet gators, or dying of literal embarrassment, they only highlight how heinous she is and the deaths of the Globo-Warm employees were partly played for horror too.

What Makes Her Inconsistent?[]

  • She's an extremist, since her overall goal is to achieve justice and peace in the world rather from amusement, making her far less malicious than the canon Death Note characters who used the book for self-serving purposes like Light Yagami, whom she's based on, lacking his egotistical goal of being the god of a new world (despite still seeing herself as an heroic person).
  • She cares about Bart as she was horrified when she realized she tried to kill him, partially redeeming herself and killing Steve Johnson instead.

Trivia[]

  • In typical "Treehouse of Horror" fashion of parodying pop culture, the "Death Tome" segment parodies Tsugumi Ohba's manga series Death Note (which later counted with an anime and film adaptations of the same name), with Lisa Simpson filling a similar role to that of Light Yagami, who is Pure Evil.
