~ Light after regaining his memories of the Death Note |
Light Yagami is the main protagonist of the 2015 television series Death Note. While initially a caring young genius who is kind to others and genuinely loves his family despite viewing those in the world as rotten, he is led on by Ryuk into using the Death Note which completely alters his life as he tries to save the world by killing all criminals. This version of Light remains an anti-villain from the beginning to the end.
He was portrayed by Masataka Kubota.
His Evil Ranking[]
What Makes Him Heinous?[]
- Like several other versions of the character, he killed many criminals. Criminals or not, it was still murder.
- Tried to kill Raye Penbar.
- Tried to kill the FBI agents on his tail, even threatening to kill Cathy (who was innocent).
- Had Mikami and Misa kill several people.
- Allowed his father to commit suicide because he was "in his way" (he didn't make or force him to but still).
- Tried to kill Near/Mello and the Task Force.
What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]
- Unlike other versions, he's a genuine anti-villain, even if his crimes are still murder, he does have good intentions.
- He's tragic due to losing his mother at a young age and having a strained relationship with his father.
- He has some people he cares about such as his sister, Misa, and Mikami.
- On several occasions, he shows remorse for his actions.
- Finally, his death scene is played for sympathy and makes him a scapegoat.
Trivia[]
- He is one of the two versions of Light Yagami to be Inconsistently Heinous, along with Light Turner from the 2017 American Death Note movie.
- Despite the fact that this version of Light takes a similar path by the end to the anime and manga versions, the difference with this version is that Light’s god complex is toned down so his intentions seem far more genuine.
