Bubba Sawyer, better known as Leatherface, is the main antagonist of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise.

He is a violent but mentally challenged serial killer that serves as the lead enforcer and youngest brother of the cannibalistic Sawyer family, usually killing his victims with a chainsaw per his family's orders.

He was portrayed by the late Gunnar Hansen in the first film, Bill Johnson in the second film, R. A. Mihailoff in the third film, Robert Jacks in the fourth film, and by Mark Burnham in the fifth film.

His Evil Ranking[]

What Makes Him Heinous?[]

The Texas Chain Saw Massacre[]

  • He bashed Kirk's head with a hammer and later skins his face off.
  • He kidnapped Pam, puts her on a meat hook, forced her to watch her already-dead boyfriend get cut by his chainsaw and sticked her in a freezer where she presumably froze to death.
  • He killed Jerry by bludgeoning him with a sledgehammer.
  • He went outside his home to chase and kill any intruders, slashing Franklin to death with his chainsaw and chasing Sally Hardesty.
  • He kidnapped Sally and tormented her along with his brothers at the dinner table.
  • He chased Sally after she escaped from the house and attempted to kill her again before she got away.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2[]

  • He cut half of Buzz's head off with his chainsaw and crashed his car, killing Rick as well.
  • He attacked Stretch and his coworker, kidnapping the latter and skinning him alive.
  • After Stretch infiltrated their lair, he put her coworker's skinned face on her and left her tied up.
  • He held Stretch down while his grandpa tried to kill her with a sledgehammer.
  • He tried to kill Lefty Enright and cut him a little with his chainsaw.

Leatherface: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre III[]

  • It's heavily implied that he raped a girl to make his daughter by his brother threatening Michelle with rape and saying "he makes some damn good babies" when referring to Leatherface.
  • It's also heavily implied that the sixty to seventy corpses that were buried in the body pits and found by a special forensic team were his victims.
    • The forensic team also mentioned they've found similar body pits near Dong Tre.
  • He bashed the head of a girl named Gina, killing her and later cutting her face off to make a new mask.
  • He attacked Michelle and Ryan when they stopped to change a tire.
  • He tried to kill Benny and wounded his leg before leaving after being distracted.
  • He killed Sara, the sister of Gina, with his chainsaw after she's left alone.
  • After Ryan got caught in a bear trap, he injured him with his chainsaw and took him back to his home.
  • He strangled Tinker when he threw his Walkman at the stove, forcing him to take it back, burning his hand in the process, showing that by this point he could even harm members of his own family.
  • He tried to kill Benny with his truck after he rescued Michelle.
  • After seemingly killing Benny on a bog where many of his victims' corpses were thrown, he tried to kill Michelle.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation[]

  • He captured Heather and stuffed her in a meat locker, later putting her on a meat hook.
  • He killed Barry by bashing his head with a sledgehammer.
  • He chased Jenny through the woods.
  • He wanted to skin Jenny to have a new face and later tried to kill her after she escaped the house.
  • He caused the deaths of Mrs. and Mr. Spodish by making their RV flip while chasing them.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2022)[]

  • He cut off his now dead mother's face and wore it for the rest of the movie.
  • He brutally killed Richter by breaking his leg, stabbing his neck with a glass shard and bludgeoning his head in with a sledgehammer.
  • He knocked out Melody with his sledgehammer and attempted to kill her.
  • He almost killed Lila until Melody interfered.
  • He brutally murdered 23 people on a bus for getting in his way.
  • He murdered Sally Hardesty by impaling her with his chainsaw.
  • He killed Melody by decapitating her with his chainsaw in front of her sister.

What Makes Him Inconsistent?[]

  • His moral agency is far too screwed to be NPE. He was already born with severe mental illnesses, and he had been abused since birth by his family to be a cannibal and killer just like them. This also made him extremely tragic and bordering on scapegoat.
  • He was genuinely fond of Stretch as he spared her life twice, hid her from his brothers and was against killing her until Drayton forced him to. Even when she was escaping, he didn't chase her and instead focused his attention on the sheriff.
  • Despite them abusing him, he loved his family fiercely and protected them with his life which included all his brothers, his daughter, his parents and his grandfather.
  • He spared Sally at first, walking away when she entered his house and tried to get him to remember her and only attacked her when she started shooting him.
  • He is at times played for laughs.

Trivia[]

  • In a deleted scene of Texas Chainsaw Massacre Part 2, he, Chop-Top and Drayton killed a group of yuppies. Had this been kept in it would have made him worse.
